Delicious food in Derby

“I dropped in to have a coffee, but on entering, smelling the food and having a sense of calm about the place, I decided to get a menu and have some breakfast. The menu is small but concise and doesn't attempt to be an "everything to everyone" type of eatery. I had the veggie breakfast and it was delicious. Hash browns were fluffy yet crisp on the outside and the whole meal went down nicely. Table service was good although I wasn't too sure whether you pay at the table or at the counter. Food is cooked from fresh and you can tell when it comes out. My only slight negative was I didn't like the butter/spread used on the toast but this is a very minor point. Would definitely visit again and would recommend to all to have a visit. Breakfast and coffee for under a tenner.”

“I stayed in Derby for a week and tried a few different places for breakfast. I found the book cafe to be the best. Excellent quality food. Particularly enjoyed the scrambled eggs which were light and flurry. Every item on the plate was of good quality. The location of the cafe is very central and the quirky ambience adds to the experience. Only slightly marked down service as there was no table service, only order at the bar was available but that said the staff were nice and friendly. I’d gladly return to the book cafe in the future and recommend to others”

The homemade chilli sauce comes highly recommended by my husband to go with the 3 Spice meat sizzler special. We can't recommend here highly enough!!”

The food was superb , steaks cooked to perfection , starters beautifuly presented and generous portion size. Could not fault the place and will be going again. When back in Derby. “Will get South Indian food, food is good. Parking is available for 4 to 5 cars but when we arrived, there is no parking, so parked at Abbey street paid parking (£2.5 for 2 hours). Service was also good. Overall rating is GOOD.”

“We’ve visited twice in the last few weeks and absolutely love this place. It’s nicely decorated and has a nice atmosphere going on. The food we order always comes piping hot and presented exactly how you feel it should be presented. Very tasty too with tender chicken pieces and flavoursome sauce. Had the lamb on the bone last time and that was an experience and a half! After speaking to one of the waiting team about the poppadom dips, we found out that they are all made freshly on site and not just from a bottle. Definitely going to go back soon”

“Visited for Sunday lunch. It was excellent. We had the gammon and the pie. Food was all cooked perfectly. A great selection of vegetables. Roast and mashed potatoes. All food was piping hot. Staff were all very good, helpful and attentive. First visit for food - been before and sat outside for a drink. Will definitely return as this Sunday lunch was amazing.”

“This is the best Indian restaurant we have found, it really is worth travelling to. We have been three times so far and it has been consistently good, the main dishes are great then finishing off with amazing desserts and a pot of coffee with a jug of cream after the desserts which is how it should be but so many others aren't. To top it off it is reasonably priced and the setting which is underground really has a wow factor.”

“I've tried all the Chinese restaurants in Loughborough and this is by far the best. Great taste, Portions are very generous, the prices are very fair and the staff are super friendly. Best salt and pepper chips, and they make the best King Prawn fried rice ever. I used to go there every day, and i still would if i didn't change work place!”

“Very good, tasty and well cooked. They even make their own BBQ sauce for the ribs. Mostly Chinese dishes but some Malay, and few Thai and western style dishes to mix things up. We were asking how they made their roast pork, as we fancied trying to do it for a BBQ, a while later their cook dropped round with the key ingredient we were missing and told us how to do the marinade.”

“Made a family order for collection last Sunday. Service and food was brilliant. They got everything right and even added a few extra drinks and naan. Was served by Shaheen, who was brilliant. Was told order would be ready in an hour but was ready in 45 mins. Even confirmed the order at the end to make sure nothing was missed.”
