“Small dinner, but lots on menu, low prices and delicious food. Chef was really nice and kind. They offer many kinds of burgers, pizzas, kebabs and more. All fresh and really good and big portions.”
“First time here. Absolutely delicious. I’d recommend.”
“Came for a short break in Edinburgh, read good reviews about Bam coffee and visited myself. I really loved it. From food to service and ambiance, everything is nice. I would definitely suggest it to other people.”
“Would give this place 10 stars if I could. Fantastic owner, fantastic food, all vegetarian. Fantastic art down the stairs and one of the only sober LGBTQIA places I know of. They also hold lots of events down stairs and they're VERY reasonably priced.”
“Great coffee and the best cinnamon bun I've had on our 4 month trip, baked in house and we got one fresh out of the oven. Super friendly servive to top it off, pop in and you wont be disappointed.”
“Absolute gem in Edinburgh. Lovely people, delicious cakes, and quality coffee. Great place to begin your day or have a lunch. I need that cheesecake recipe”

“Great little coffee stop with amazing huge scones ! Just to be aware it doesn't sell much savory food”
“Spectacular pistachio croissant. Seriously one of the best I ever had, great amount of cream inside. Would 100% come back just for that.”
“We truly enjoyed our dinner at The Society! Our server, Bee, was absolutely wonderful as she is warm, professional, and attentive. She made us feel so welcome and even took the time to ask about my food allergies, which allowed us to fully relax and enjoy our evening. Everything we ordered was exceptional: the beer was refreshing, the Margherita Pizza was marvelous, the Steak with Chimichurri sauce was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, and the Miso Aubergine was tender and rich. We ended the meal with the Toffee Pudding and it was absolutely delicious! Every dish was a highlight, and the service made it all the more memorable. Hands down, the best dinner we’ve had in Edinburgh. Highly recommend!”
“I do love finding little gems like these. Great Cafe with a very generous portion size and fantastic coffee. I also had a lovely Victoria sponge from there, no photo as I devoured it far to quickly. If you're in the area and looking to treat yourself to a nice lunch I would definitely advise going here.”
“We had this cafe on our must visit and it was well worth the visit, it's great value for money, delicious food and the owners are really friendly and the man is a super talented artist, the theme is biker with some amazing memorabilia and photos, you can sign the wall and see where people have travelled from to visit”
“This place has got to be one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. Fairly priced, value for money most definitely. Staff really friendly and informative. The food was absolutely delicious. It was a little dark for photos, but here are some of the best of a bad bunch.”
“Lovely cafe with reasonable prices. Good coffee and fresh breakfast. Thank you”
“stopped in here 45 minutes before close on a monday night. a few pastas were sold out but still had options to choose from. we ended up with delicious salmon stracciatella pasta dish and a toasted focaccia panini. both hit just the right spot for a quick bite to eat before more adventures in edinburgh. filled us up without feeling overfull. boys behind the counter were extremely nice. for dessert we had a delicious cannoli to top it off, absolutely would come back here again. great quality at an unbeatable price. p.s. get the chinotto, a delicious refreshing italian soda”
“It’s great that there is a French cafe, specializing in galettes and crepes, close to the centre of Edinburgh. I have been to Le Petit Cafe twice. For galettes I would always go for the classic combination with ham and cheese, and that’s why I ordered the Parisian both times. The galette itself got a nice texture, with the tasty infill of melty cheddar cheese and ham, and a fried egg on top. There is a good variety of choices for both savory galettes and sweet crepes on their menu. We had two crepes following the galettes - one with chopped pistachio, white chocolate spread & pistachio ice cream which was a great mix of flavour; another one simply with salted butter caramel which was also nice, though I hope the texture of the crepes could be softer and tenderer (I come across such excellent texture once in Paris recently). Remember to try the French cappuccino, it came with cream on top which was definitely a great accompaniment to the food there.”
“If you are lucky enough to catch the Little Green Van out on a nice day, I highly recommend you give it a try. The coffee is amazing. I got wild and ordered the Affogato (2 scoops of vanilla ice cream with two shots of espresso poured over top) it was HEAVEN IN A CUP. If you’re looking for a delicious coffee and a tasty treat, you can’t go wrong with this drink. Other than that, they had a lovely array of tasty looking treats, savory rolls, and pre-made paninis. The staff was a man and woman, and they couldn’t have been lovelier. This is the perfect stop if you happen to catch it on your morning stroll :)”
“I had a matcha lion’s mane with oat milk, and I think it’s one of the best drinks I’ve had recently. The staff are friendly, and the artwork on the walls is beautiful. This place is now on my list to try more drinks and pastries. It’s cosy and warm, and I’m really looking forward to visiting again.”
“My friend and I just came in for take away flat whites. It's such a tiny shop, they make your drink on the same side as the tables. There is space for 6 people and it's cramped. This is an incredible coffee spot. They pull the espresso with fantastic precision and they froth the milk perfectly. I am so happy that I came here and I HIGHLY recommend this coffee shop for anyone in the area.”
“Good selection of savory food and cakes. Great coffee. Good price, friendly staff.”
“Excellent breakfast place! Cute and cozy decor. We tried filled croissants, porridge and this lovely pistachio cardamom cake. And also, probably the best coffee we had in the whole of Edinburgh!”
“Great wee spot for great coffee and sweets. The little free library and atmosphere give it a great vibe to relax and enjoy some peace, either alone or with friends. The proprietor was not only personable but funny and knew how to read his people. Highly recommend and will be back.”
“Breakfasthere is superb, and so is lunch. The soups are delicious. There is always ham hockey lenti, but the vegetable soups vary from day to day, and are always delicious. Home baking...cakes, frangipane tartlets, brownies carrotcake, Portuguese tarts, and always a big cake of some kind.ll fresh, light, and tempting. Oh..and the scones. Baked every morning, with freshly whipped cream and jam, or just butter...to die for. Forgot to say, the coffee is freshly ground, and they have a very rich and varied selection.and may different teas, well worth experimenting.”
“Amazing and friendly service. The food was delicious, I went for the French toast w/bacon banana and syrup, and the portion sizes were very generous!”
“I found this place by chance and had the best luck, as it was about to close. The attention is really warm and kind. The coffee is AMAZING. I had the fortune to get a pistachio cookie and it’s great. Will be back really soon. Everybody talks about what this Edin’s hidden gem has to offer, you need to see it for yourselves. Visit this venue, you won’t regret.”
“Fantastic cafe with a great ambience, friendly staff and owner and the food..... Delicious! I had the salmon bagel and then a cuppa tea and banoffee pie. Best Banoffee pie I've tasted in years. What had turned out to be a day of errands has become a beautiful day after having a delicious lunch here. Don't skip the cake - they are homemade and mouthwateringly good. Come here hungry and leave very very satisfied.”
“Absolutely brilliant. Nothing is too much bother. Excellent food, great prices and always a huge smile.”
“Popped in today for a quick breakfast, toasted homemade soda bread with marmalade and a mug of delicious coffee, outstanding. The place was buzzing with people from all walks of life and the counter was absolutely groaning with an amazing selection of home baking. Cheese scones, brownies, cookies ,quiche and an amazing looking birthday cake to name just a few. So,if you're in the southside of Edinburgh at anytime and looking for somewhere really nice to rest and replenish then head to Kates,I can't think of anywhere better.”
“We stopped over this cafe in Rathos for a much needed cup of coffee, and we finally understood what the other reviewers meant by “great coffee and great banter”. Seriously, so stop by this cafe and have a chat with the proprietor. No matter how grey your day looks, it will definitely look better after that. I wish we could also have had lunch here since the food looked amazing, but hopefully we may have a chance to come back for lunch.”
