“Went here one Sunday afternoon with no reservation. Got a table. Service was good and friendly staff. Food was lovely. A good price too. Will be back.”
“Amazing food - the steak was delicious and I loved the experience of making the meat on your own. Very friendly customer service.”
“We really enjoyed our dinner here. Friendly service, light and airy space and delicious food. The feathered beef tasted homemade and the fish and chips was crispy and tasty. Big selection of beers on tap and a full bar as well. Thanks for a great dinner!”
“This place was truly beautiful, the food was absolutely amazing and Ro was such a lovely server who made sure everything was okay and went above and beyond. Love this place, best meal in Edinburgh Ive had and the prices were amazing on the set winter menu x”
“This is an excellent place to eat at. The staff were all incredibly friendly. The food was incredibly delicious. I got the Full Scottish Breakfast; first time trying the haggis and it was great!! It was seasoned well and tasted great along with the other items. My family also enjoyed their meals.”
“Really warm welcome by the staff on duty, excellent service, beautiful food, great selection of beverages. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back. I can’t believe I haven’t visited earlier as I drive from Northumberland to the highlands and literally pass on the City Bypass. See you soon”
“Warm and comfortable old pub a short stroll from the Old Town. Really great range of beer and well served. Excellent pint of a classic pale ale, Scapa Special, from the Swannay Brewery on Orkney. Very quiet at lunchtime, strangely, not sure where everyone was.”
“Unreal, classic, masterclass of a local pub. The tall, handsome bartender made sure to handle all my distinguished needs and wants. Highly recommend to any true pub goer. We will be back. TFG”
“Stopped here for some drinks and food with friends whilst exploring Edinburgh. Great pub, we loved the food and the fact that we could order multiple small dishes to share. Loved the haggis neeps and tatties, overall the food was fresh and fabulous.”
“Great pub that has gone from strength to strength under the new management. Pub is spotless, best pint in the area and there’s always something to keep you occupied whether it being karaoke, disco or a simple game of darts in the large games room.”
“Traditional Scottish bar with a fantastic selection of quality ales at reasonable prices. Bar is spotlessly clean and the beer is well kept. Has a number of televisions around the bar making it an ideal place for watching sporting events. I hadn't been in here in years, but won't leave it so long next time. Recommended”
“We ducked in here during an especially rainy night for a quick quaff & were pleasantly charmed by the chill vibe & especially friendly bartender, Finn. We chatted with a local patron & swapped travel anecdotes & advice. Somehow, it was both a surprise and also completely expected Edinburgh experience. Would happily go back for another round!”
“Great pub, lovely staff and good food. Booked online, which was easier than I thought it'd be, plenty of beers and cocktails to choose from. Very decent portions of food. Pleasant afternoon had by all. Well worth considering if you're in this part of town.”
“Greenmantle Bar & Kitchen was an absolute highlight of our trip to Edinburgh. The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We were lucky enough to catch some live music during our visit, and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was lively, authentic, and full of that special Scottish pub charm you dream about before your trip. The drinks were great, with a solid selection of local options. If you're looking for that real Scottish bar experience, Greenmantle is the place to go. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!”
“Wow what an excellent cocktail bar!!! The disaronno sour was unbelievable, would absolutely recommend. The staff were so welcoming and chatty and went above and beyond! 10/10”
“The Black Rose Tavern was my first food experience in Edinburgh and it did not disappoint! Designed as an alternative/rock/gothic pub, it offers a fun and inclusive experience. The staff here are incredibly friendly, especially to tourists. They helped me with the best Scottish lager to drink and also gave me a free glass of Irn Bru to really get an authentic Scottish vibe! The food here was fantastic. I tried Haggis Balls as a starter, which was my first time trying Haggis. They were cooked well and I quite enjoyed them! For anyone curious, they taste something like between corned beef and a pork sausage roll. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here, I recommend the visit as the surrounding area is wonderful.”
“Best meal I had in Edinburgh! Love love the steak and ale pie. Perfectly balanced flavor. Love the gravy. Unsure if portion size is just right or if i just really liked the meal! Staff welcoming too. Would eat here again if I return to Edinburgh!”
“Such a beautiful pub with an amazing beer garden! the staff are very friendly and welcoming i would highly recommend”
“We used to visit years ago but this was our first time in around 5 years. We had a voucher and we enjoyed a main meal and a dessert. The spicy chicken burger was especially tasty, lots of flavour, generous chicken thigh with a good amount of salad, not too salty, and the fries were light and crispy too. Service was very considerate and friendly. Thank you for an enjoyable afternoon!”
“We are the Milan Club Scotland and we meet at Footlights for every game. We think that the pub is great, with great atmosphere all around, lots of screen, good food and selection of beers. It is never too much trouble to book a table and Ian is always nice and kind with us giving us the spot that we request. Great finding! Thank you Ian and all the staff”
“Had probably the best pie i have ever had i had the stake and ale pie the mash was good the carrots were grate the gravy could have been a little thicker but tasted good enough though it was busy great customer service”
“Amazing small venue offering the freshest live music by and club nights too!! It's a local hero!!”
“I stayed at the apartments for 1 night over the weekend for the Christmas markets in Edinburgh. The room was spacious and clean, with many add-ons included - iron, ironing board, blow drier, straightening iron, shower gel, conditioner, shampoo, hand soap, hand cream, air purifier, bluetooth speaker, TV. The temperature is automatically regulated but you could request a higher/lower temperature by speaking to staff. The staff was really accommodating and let us check-in 30 mins before 3pm. We had no issues with the room, except a weird sound coming from the radiator every so often. I recommend these rooms highly if you're looking for accommodation near the centre close to shops.”
“Lively atmosphere with music. Staff welcoming and quick. Food was so good. We ordered the buffalo fries and luke the waitress said, it was spicy. I ordered the heatwave chicken. He ordered the parmesean chicken. Yum yum!”
“Delicious Japanese restaurant with a solid menu and very nice decor. Was unfortunately seated in their small downstairs area which is quite cramped and echoey so best to request seating upstairs. Staff were friendly and the food was very tasty.”
“Really tasty food and friendly service. We had the Haggis Neeps and Tatties, the Soup and Sandwich deal, soup of the day was mushroom, and we chose a BLT sandwich, both were delicious. So good we ordered another BLT. The haggis was really good too. We also had Affogato and the Sticky Toffee for dessert. Again very tasty. Everything was reasonably priced too! Will come again when I'm next in Edinburgh and highly recommend to all.”
“Very nice pub, great selection of beers and other drinks, festively decorated as it should be at Christmas time. Great, attentive and friendly staff. We felt completely at ease. A visit is highly recommended. Many thanks”
“Super friendly staff, good range of cold beers, well over a dozen big screens, darts, pool, snooker... and hot pies! What's not to love?”
“Great little pub everyone is friendly and bar staff were lovely.”
“I had breakfast here with colleagues today, and I have to say, the service was first class. We really felt looked after. The food was delicious too and came quickly. We had the full monty and the quality was exceptional. I would highly recommend if you're local, it's even worth travelling for. An easy 5/5 review.”
