“I went here last week for a birthday meal and it was great! Great service, pretty environment and very friendly staff! We were welcomed and seated pretty much as soon as we walked in and the waiting time for the food was decent! Zara who was serving us was lovely, such a great service! We weren’t waiting too long and the food was also really good. The burger I had was delicious and the fries were good too! I especially loved the little pot of sauce that came with the meal! The meal was also beautifully presented! Very friendly and welcoming place that serves really nice food! Definitely recommend :)”

“I've been coming to dark horse for a long time and have always been impressed by how lovely and attentive the staff were (as well as how delicious the coffee is) The negative review below screams misogynistic projection and comes across incredibly aggressively. “We came here as part of our York Ghost Week experience and loved every second of it! The staff is always so kind and helpful, and the food was delicious. I love the Yorkshire cream tea, and heated scones. Also loved the limited edition Chocolate ghosts, wonderful job!”

“One of our favourite places for a boogie in York. Banging music, service us good. Only feedback was the toilets which were a state and could so with someone cleaning them up every hour. Whilst u understand its a late night pub not all of us are 18 and can't handle our ale so having a pee in a cleaner place is always appreciated”

“All the staff we met was absolutely great, friendly and helpful. We never eat here other then breakfast which was delicious and a fair choice and we actually got to see the kitchen area and it was spotlessly clean and the breakfast service spot on. The room we had was clean and comfortable which is all you really need only niggle I had was TV in the room was tiny for the distance it's mounted to the top of the bed where you sit to watch it's not the best, but thats just for us.”

“Quirky and fun! The decor is all kinds of classic English history with a hearty splash of irreverence, split across a couple buildings that feel like homes rather than a hotel. The room itself was small, but that suited me perfectly — great for a solo traveller. Only thing to note is I’m somewhat tall for a woman and on that bed I just about could touch my toes to the window sill while my head was by the headboard. I thought it was quite fun but taller people might want to take note. Everything was neat and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The walls are a little thin, like in any old house, so you can hear some bustling in the morning, but I personally found that endearing. The staff were very kind and friendly, and even introduced me to the hotel cat, Teddy! The location is great, just a 10-15 minute walk to the centre of town. I come through York frequently so I can say with certainty and delight that I’ll be staying here again! Thanks again to the staff for a lovely experience.”

“Nice to see this place after many years. My uncles bakery used to be where this cafe is, back in the 1970s/1980s. Spend many hours in the apartment above the shop, where they used to live.”

“Quick and clean street food. My friend had the tofu bahn mee and I had these 5 spice chicken loaded chips with siracha mayo. Plenty going on in the open section of Leeds Market. Proper street food atmosphere”

“Stayed at the inn for the weekend. Rooms are nice and clean. Right next to the pub, but you can't hear it, even the live music. Pub is lovely. Maybe the menu is lacking choice, but the pizzas are really delicious. Parking doesn't have number plate recognition anymore so no issues with it. There's no breakfast, but café across the road is serving sandwiches and cakes.”

“Good value weekday lunch deal. 2 courses for £10.50 and £9.50 if paid cash. Food tastes pretty good but the noodle is a bit oily.”

“One of my favourite Thai places in York. The food here is absolutely delicious and great as a dine in or takeaway option. The gluten free options are clearly labelled on the menu with quite a few different dishes being gf. The only thing to note is that when I said I was a coeliac, I was told the gf labelled fish cakes wouldn't be suitable due to cooking methods creating cross contamination. While it is really good that the staff are so well trained in dietary requirements and were able to tell me this clearly to prevent me from getting poorly, it is a shame that something labelled gluten free on the menu wasn't ultimately suitable for coeliacs. They instead advised a different gluten free starter which ended being fantastic.”

“Absolutely fantastic little cafe right behind York Minster. It has about 3 tables (for two) inside the cafe but quite a good number of tables outside. We had coffee and cake, which were both excellent! Can totally recommend!”

“My experience was wonderful! Abi was my stylist and she was fantastic, I would definitely come back to her. The service was attentive, warm and welcoming and the salon was clean and calm with nice ambiance of gentle music and conversation. I was offered a drink upon entry and my coat was taken, and the wait time was very short. I was very well taken care of, my needs were listened to and met easily and I was consistently asked throughout the process if I was happy and if I wanted to change anything. Abi explained every step of the process to me so I was comfortable and reassured at each stage. The end product is fantastic, I won’t go anywhere else for my hair now!”

We had the Railway Mutton Dosa, Butter Chicken with sides. Fantastic service and thanks for our anniversary treat! Big shout out to Suryan! Great evening and we even took food home!”

“An absolutely bloody exceptional meal. Lamb chops, still slightly pink, seasoned to perfection. Complex curries, very spicy, but still delicious and enjoyable. Lovely chippies, massively tasty naan bread. Not exactly service with a smile but professional enough not to detract from the experience. Best part? The price. Two course meal for two and three alcoholic drinks for less than £70. Outstanding. Best curry house in York and definitely in our top three country-wide. Will be thinking about this meal for a while...”

Vicky had some imaginative solutions to our requirements and combined the kitchen project with also enlarging the downstairs toilet to create a utility room. Our new kitchen makes excellent use of space with plenty of storage as we wanted.”

“Stayed in a 2 bed apartment at Bank Chambers. Excellent flat in a great location. Tastefully decorated and fitted out with all the mod cons. Knaresborough is a lovely little town with some good pubs and restaurants in itself and only a short cab/train ride from Harrogate. Would thoroughly recommend staying here.”
