“We went for our second time recently, a year after the first time. The first time was OK, but this time the food was really great and tasty. Both times were on a Saturday for a late lunch. We took quite a few yakitori, including the aubergine, which was so good we took another one. Also had a fried rice to carb load. Great food, very fast. Not overly friendly but efficient. Good choice of sake too.”

“Beautiful food, perfect in every way!! Only criticism is we weren’t asked how our food was soon after receiving it, brother had fries and would have liked some kind of sauce. Noticed waitresses and waiters would happily avoid eye contact, weren’t overly busy and plenty of staff but preferred to chat. Waited a long time for bill also. Again no complaints about the food compliments to the chef, staff could have been more attentive that’s all.”

“Was in Southwell for the day and we were looking on internet and came across the old ship so we decided to visit. Friendly, helpful and polite staff the place was very clean and tidy. The food was very reasonably priced and very good quality and a good range of choice. Would recommend to others.”

“Great pub, gotta be the best in the village I’d say nowadays. Always busy, had great food, something for everyone. Great garden, always has been: the place is and has been amazing since the refurb! The real ale selection is a bit lacking but that’s not their main attraction, if you want that, go to other pubs in the village! Now for the star of the show: Lawrence! He’s great, and is an amazing waiter. He takes great care of you and his customer service is always on point.”

“Came for tapas; crispy squid, Spanish hot flatbread, meatballs. All reasonably priced, squid was slightly tough but batter was lovely and light and was overall fab. Flat bread was perfect and so delicious, meatballs were also spot on. Sangria passion fruit and mango was also great. Good vibe with plenty of tables and service was really good with polite staff. Mix up on the reciept but was easily sorted. Booked the tables so no wait required. Would recommend!”

“First time having a pint in the frame breakers. What can I say...... It's a quaint little pub in towards the centre of Ruddington, so it nicely located. The staff seem friendly, and they serve a nice array of craft ales and beers. Prices ain't bad and from what I saw of the food, it looked good. Definitely worth a cheeky beer in.”

“Had a fantastic meal at Hickory’s Smokehouse in Nottingham last Saturday night with friends! The food was genuinely impressive — hands down the best BBQ I’ve had from anywhere in the UK. The meats were cooked perfectly, full of flavour, and had that authentic smoky taste that’s so hard to find done right over here unless I'm doing it on my BBQ at home!! The staff were brilliant too — super friendly, attentive, and brought a fun, relaxed vibe to the whole experience. It really made the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely planning to return soon. If you’re into BBQ and haven’t been yet, you’re missing out!!”

“Popped in on a Tues at 2.30pm. Luckily they serve food whilst loads of other food places in Nottingham were closed. Ordered lamb kofte and burger and chips. Food was served quickly and was delicious. Decor and atmosphere upstairs is very well decorated with posters, large screen tv and plants. I would recommend popping in.”

“We recently chose to have our wedding reception at The Canalhouse in Nottingham, and it was the best decision we could have made. Amy, the Events Manager, and her amazing team went above and beyond to make our day truly unforgettable. From our very first meeting, Amy was warm, welcoming, and incredibly organised. She put us at ease straight away and made sure every detail was thought through. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her…she even met with our DJs ahead of time to coordinate the evening plans and timings! We brought in our own decorations and shared our vision for the day, and Amy and her team quite literally brought our dream to life. Walking into the room as husband and wife and seeing it all come together for the first time was magical. The food was exceptional…it arrived on time, tasted amazing, and catered perfectly for guests with allergies and special requests. We received so many compliments on how efficient, friendly, and attentive the staff were throughout the day. Honestly, our wedding wouldn’t have been as perfect without Amy. She and her team absolutely smashed it out of the park. We can’t thank them enough for the care, effort, and attention to detail they put into everything. “The food was amazing. We had a chicken and lamb Sunday lunch. A good sized portion and very reasonably priced. We had GF Chocolate Fuche cake with custard and sticky toffee pudding with custard. Both were delicious! I would highly recommend a visit! We had booked an outside table and were running late. We called to let them know and they were very understanding. Service was excellent. “The food is delicious. It's a gastropub which means that the food is not the classic pub food but food of high quality. The cheap version of a fine dining cuisine and service. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is warm and the menu is simple and clear. The starters is something that you should definitely try, it is the best thing on the menu. My favourites are the following: sesame halloumi ( I could have that every single day, the honey drizzle goes so well with the sesame coated halloumi), the crayfish bisque ( a delicious luxury served in a unique way) and last but not least the arancini (delicious,delicious,delicious). The Tailors Arms has its own free parking but there is a bus stop 30 seconds away and a tram stop 2 minutes away. Wilford is a very quiet area however the Taylor's Arms is on the main road, next to the co-operative supermarket.”

“I haven't had food here, just drinks, so I am unable to rate that yet. I cannot fault the staff and their politeness. I love coming here for a drink or two. It's always one of my go places for a night out. Love the people and live the vibe. It's ever so friendly and the doormen too.”

“Despite being really busy they managed to seat us at a comfortable table. They advised was going to be 30 mins which we were happy at, and it was pretty much bang on 30 mins when it arrived and it was well worth the wait. The staff were very pleasant and food was spot on. “16th October 2024, we visited the Old Black Horse, and it was the Wednesday Night Pie night. We had a really good night. The price was fantastic. You can also order off the normal menu. The pies are first-rate and as good as any I have tasted before. The staff are really nice being professional and very friendly at the same time. We have been a number of times and had the Carvary. This is one of the tastest I have tasted, and the price is resealable.”

“Fantastic food and service for our wedding anniversary dinner. Atmosphere excellent until 4 obnoxious and entitled diners took offence for 3 young girls waiting for their take out food behind their table. The diners were absolutely in the wrong in this situation and spoiled the atmosphere for all other diners by their behaviour. Old enough to know better and should be ashamed of themselves. If I were the owner I would have kicked them out!”

“Excellent food at a very reasonable price. Adam the new landlord was very welcoming. The pub has also had a very tasteful makeover since coming under new management to bring it's decor up to date which has enhanced the atmosphere too. All in all the perfect, family friendly country pub.”

“Great food. Had a lovely lunch from the set menu. Very reasonably priced and main and desert were spot on. Had a latte and a soft drink as well, all nice. Don't know about alcohol prices but well worth a visit for lunch. Just a short update. Unfortunately the current management team are having to give up this pub in August 2025 due to new government budget pressures and family illness. Such a shame. Hope they can get somewhere else soon and, if not, wish them all the best for the future”

“This pub used to be a rub down scruffy pub with a bad reputation, well done to Castle Rock for turning it around. It's in an area with quite a few good ale pubs which would make it an excellent pub crawl.”

“Friday night dinner here with friends. Great atmosphere. Our server, Liv, was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a minor issue which she resolved quickly and satisfactorily. She’s an absolute credit to the pub. Clare also came over and was brilliant. Fab food, great service. Highly recommend.”
