“We arrived around 1230 on a Saturday having walked from a local village. Although we were the only customers the greeting was super friendly and the service was brilliant. The food was delicious, especially the home made soup. Definitely going back, and this will become the new half way point. Having visited other pubs in Castle Donington this is one of the best by far. Dog friendly in the bar and outside Great food Great welcome Worth a visit”

“Ordered from the brunch menu. Cumberland sausage cob, and halloumi and roast pepper toasted sandwich. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Good service and pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely go back.”

“Stayed here a few times now and always found the rooms clean and warm with comfortable beds. As for the bar area, plenty of real ales with 3 on while we stayed. Food, was fab. Both breakfast and evening meal cooked to order. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Tip: If you fancy a pint in the evening getting back early, as sometimes they close if not busy.”

“Went for the beautiful carvery on Sunday. Melt in the mouth meats, and all the veg. Lovely bar staff and extremely pleasant young girls in the carvery. Great value, will be coming back very soon !!”

“Unusual large pub live music and amazing decor. Upstairs and downstairs bars. Very popular, especially At weekends. Find the toilets. Ha ha, behind the bookcase. Very Gothic in design and worth a visit.”

“This is a great little venue within a bar next door to Rock City. It was a fair size inside for a good crowd, there is space for merchant sales and a fully stocked bar. There is an outdoor area for smokers and those wanting to relax outside which is really nicely set out too. I'm really looking forward to coming back next month for another gig!”

“Fantastic traditional pub with great selection of drinks, friendly bar staff, outdoor seating and chill out areas. The prices were really good compared to the city centre so it's definitely worth a walk up to if you are visiting Nottingham. There was a beer festival on for the weekend when we attended with some excellent local hand pulls.”

“I would strongly recommend going Bugman's. Good food, ale, and atmosphere! Love the new renovations. The place looks awesome! However, it would be better with a flight option for the themed ales, stronger ale options (Bugman's is supposed to be the strongest), and spicier wings for the slayer challenge (or a spicier tier with a better reward). I really liked the variety of options on the menu. I will always try a new take on chicken and waffles. It was quite innovative but definitely dry. It's worth saying that we went on 05/04/2025 the first day of reopening after renovations. So there are probably things that will get sorted out shortly after. We are from America so we don't get to enjoy this experience often but we can't wait to go again!”

“We went for our second time recently, a year after the first time. The first time was OK, but this time the food was really great and tasty. Both times were on a Saturday for a late lunch. We took quite a few yakitori, including the aubergine, which was so good we took another one. Also had a fried rice to carb load. Great food, very fast. Not overly friendly but efficient. Good choice of sake too.”

“Yumacha is excellent. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Fabulous food with lots of variety. They have the best prawn toast we've had anywhere! We've had many wonderful meals here. We went at lunchtime and they were very welcoming to our small child too.”

“Beautiful food, perfect in every way!! Only criticism is we weren’t asked how our food was soon after receiving it, brother had fries and would have liked some kind of sauce. Noticed waitresses and waiters would happily avoid eye contact, weren’t overly busy and plenty of staff but preferred to chat. Waited a long time for bill also. Again no complaints about the food compliments to the chef, staff could have been more attentive that’s all.”

“Was in Southwell for the day and we were looking on internet and came across the old ship so we decided to visit. Friendly, helpful and polite staff the place was very clean and tidy. The food was very reasonably priced and very good quality and a good range of choice. Would recommend to others.”

“First time here and I was really impressed! The roast chicken dinner was the best I’ve ever had – the chicken was succulent, tasty, and perfectly cooked. Everything was homemade, with the stuffing being especially good, and the gravy was rich and full of flavor. The waitress was very pleasant and the service was quick. “Great pub, gotta be the best in the village I’d say nowadays. Always busy, had great food, something for everyone. Great garden, always has been: the place is and has been amazing since the refurb! The real ale selection is a bit lacking but that’s not their main attraction, if you want that, go to other pubs in the village! Now for the star of the show: Lawrence! He’s great, and is an amazing waiter. He takes great care of you and his customer service is always on point.”

“Came for tapas; crispy squid, Spanish hot flatbread, meatballs. All reasonably priced, squid was slightly tough but batter was lovely and light and was overall fab. Flat bread was perfect and so delicious, meatballs were also spot on. Sangria passion fruit and mango was also great. Good vibe with plenty of tables and service was really good with polite staff. Mix up on the reciept but was easily sorted. Booked the tables so no wait required. Would recommend!”

“Wow! This Carvery was amazing! Even though we are Liverpool Fans, the Chef gave us a huge Welcome and a generous amount of meat (I had the Beef and Pork). We moved onto the Vegetables and honestly, I can't think of a single Veg that wasn't present. All of them looked fresh (2pm ish) and replenished regularly as well as being crunchy and piping hot. The table staff were welcoming too - it was worth the drive and, we'll be back. I have a modest appetite so, don't let the size and selection of my plate put you off - there were Yorkshire's, my bro had 2, and potatoes - you can have as much as you want!”

“First time having a pint in the frame breakers. What can I say...... It's a quaint little pub in towards the centre of Ruddington, so it nicely located. The staff seem friendly, and they serve a nice array of craft ales and beers. Prices ain't bad and from what I saw of the food, it looked good. Definitely worth a cheeky beer in.”

“Had a fantastic meal at Hickory’s Smokehouse in Nottingham last Saturday night with friends! The food was genuinely impressive — hands down the best BBQ I’ve had from anywhere in the UK. The meats were cooked perfectly, full of flavour, and had that authentic smoky taste that’s so hard to find done right over here unless I'm doing it on my BBQ at home!! The staff were brilliant too — super friendly, attentive, and brought a fun, relaxed vibe to the whole experience. It really made the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely planning to return soon. If you’re into BBQ and haven’t been yet, you’re missing out!!”

“Popped in on a Tues at 2.30pm. Luckily they serve food whilst loads of other food places in Nottingham were closed. Ordered lamb kofte and burger and chips. Food was served quickly and was delicious. Decor and atmosphere upstairs is very well decorated with posters, large screen tv and plants. I would recommend popping in.”

“We recently chose to have our wedding reception at The Canalhouse in Nottingham, and it was the best decision we could have made. Amy, the Events Manager, and her amazing team went above and beyond to make our day truly unforgettable. From our very first meeting, Amy was warm, welcoming, and incredibly organised. She put us at ease straight away and made sure every detail was thought through. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her…she even met with our DJs ahead of time to coordinate the evening plans and timings! We brought in our own decorations and shared our vision for the day, and Amy and her team quite literally brought our dream to life. Walking into the room as husband and wife and seeing it all come together for the first time was magical. The food was exceptional…it arrived on time, tasted amazing, and catered perfectly for guests with allergies and special requests. We received so many compliments on how efficient, friendly, and attentive the staff were throughout the day. Honestly, our wedding wouldn’t have been as perfect without Amy. She and her team absolutely smashed it out of the park. We can’t thank them enough for the care, effort, and attention to detail they put into everything. “Held my late Mum's wake here. Quite a small affair, so we chose to have an area of the bar. The staff were so helpful from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble and all delivered with a smile. The food was excellent and commented upon by all. Big thank you to all the staff for making it a lovely end to the day.”

“The food was amazing. We had a chicken and lamb Sunday lunch. A good sized portion and very reasonably priced. We had GF Chocolate Fuche cake with custard and sticky toffee pudding with custard. Both were delicious! I would highly recommend a visit! We had booked an outside table and were running late. We called to let them know and they were very understanding. Service was excellent. “This pub used to be a rub down scruffy pub with a bad reputation, well done to Castle Rock for turning it around. It's in an area with quite a few good ale pubs which would make it an excellent pub crawl.”
