“Me and my family really enjoyed our day here. Definitely enough animals to make a day out for the family. My kids loved the seeing all the animals but the giraffes, crocodiles and monkey's definitely stood out for us. Maps need updating for toilets as we found some in a different area than listed. Enjoyed the play areas, food areas and a little win a teddy section. Also enjoyed a lovely icecream. Would recommend!”

“Such a great zoo. I've been coming here for 20 years now and always have a lovely time. The staff who give the animal talks are so friendly and knowledgeable (Emma is our favourite!). A really relaxing day out (especially when the kids are in school and it's nice and quiet!)”

“Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers today who were so attentive. Because the zoo was so quiet it felt like we were getting a private tour! So many times we would be at an enclosure only for a volunteer to stumble across us so we were able to ask loads of questions about the animals we were looking at. (So sorry we didn't get names but the volunteer on uni placement who did the wolf talk, the chap who chatted to us about the leopards, and the two volunteers in the reptile house who introduced us to every animal in there). Although the zoo may be smaller than most, it means it is so easy to go back to animals that may have been hiding on your first visit or to pop back to see your favourites. We very much enjoyed all the animals that they had there, especially the resident house cat who we spent ages fussing. We also appreciated the free annual pass which comes included on your standard ticket, totally unexpected! We will definitely be sure to return more frequently now because of it! Such good value for money! We love We Bought A Zoo and love being able to support the zoo that inspired the film!”

“Absolutely brilliant place to visit! We found Pennywell farm when searching for somewhere to visit en route to our holiday park. Even on a wet Monday we still had a fantastic time. There’s plenty of animals to feed in the dry. Feed was available to purchase at the entrance/shop. The goats will definitely make you giggle. From the incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable staff giving talks, to holding a piglet. Both children aged 2yrs old were fully engaged and made to feel welcomed by staff. There’s also plenty of hand washing stations located around the site. The views from the top of the viewing tower give you a 360 panorama of picturesque Scenery which all compliment its truly beautiful location. We loved it so much we returned on the Friday, on our way home from our holiday. If you have the opportunity to pay Pennywell farm a visit it’s well worth it! Thank you to the team at Pennywell farm for building something truly beautiful for many generations to enjoy and making us feel so welcomed!”

“What a find! Emma and the owners were so kind and accommodating to our last minute plans, and they made sure we had everything we needed for our twin toddlers. The site is beautiful with wild flowers and rolling hills. Our girls loved the pool, adventure playground and tennis court. Everything was in easy reach, making it relaxing for us parents too. I particularly loved the hot tub with those amazing views. Top class beaches and eateries close by and our girls got a taste for crab and fish n chips. Some very happy family memories made here and we can’t wait to return. Thank you Emma, Peter and Amy for a fantastic few days. X”

“A hidden gem. At first it was difficult to find anyone, but that’s because they are so busy non stop caring for and tending to each of the beautiful animals here. A fantastic little sanctuary, the keepers were so knowledgeable and passionate we could have asked them questions all day. We stayed for a talk and owl flight which was amazing. We also did the wild badger watching in the evening where we had one special visitor! Recommend a warm evening to see more, but such a cool experience we will never forget. Also incredible to hear about their successful fox rehabilitation and release story. 10/10 for such a small sanctuary”

“Small place on a wooded hill. Really nice people. We had a walk around. Then ate at the cafe in the carpark opposite (who gave us a discount because we'd visited Shaldon Wildlife Trust). Then we went around for a second time! They were happy for us to leave and come back which I thought was lovely of them. Mainly monkeys, some meerkats, and lemurs. Beautiful squirrels with amazing colours and small wild cats.”

“Had a truly wonderful experience today - being out of season myself and my partner were the only visitors there when we arrived so it was super quiet. The staff had paid attention to my partner when he mentioned I really liked owls and they allowed us to get super close. Something I never expected - which was an amazing experience. They were on hand to answer questions and spoke to us about the birds and advised us when they were feeding each so we could watch and ask questions. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and their love for the birds was clear. We’ll definitely be back when we visit Devon again next year!”

“Plymouth's only working farm, nestled to the Platinum Parkway. The site is really beautiful all year, and home to all sorts of wildlife, and has been extensively regenerated since the council took it over. The farm is home to the Plymouth Natural Grid and the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest teams. The farm is home to pigs, goats (seasonally), ducks, and honeybees. It is also a vibrant hub, running all sorts of activities from yoga to ecotherapy to forest schools, to youth training, open days, animal interactions (including the very charming pigs), volunteer days and of course the beaver tours in their dedicated space in the ancient woodland on site. There are spaces available to hire for events as well. Highly recommended.”

“What a great day out for adults and children. Admission in advance was £17 and a few pence per person and once inside the park food and drink was also very reasonably priced. Selection was burgers, fries, hot dogs ,wraps etc. There was a small selection of farm animals to feed and observe and a large indoor play area for if the weather doesn't cooperate. There was a card available on our visit that if you collected 6 stamps from the rides availability, a return visit after the school summer holidays is only £25 for upto 8 people. Overall a great day out and we are returning in September.”

You can tell they spend what money they have on the donkeys (and goats & ponies) rather than on the non essential human side of things. Small shop and cafe as well as indoor and outdoor play areas for kids. Wheel friendly (one small steepish slope to access the donkey paddocks) and compact enough to allow those with limited mobility to visit all the paddocks without too much trouble”

“We went to the Rings and Dragons Candlelight concert at the National Marine Aquarium during the Christmas period and absolutely loved it. Sitting there with a glass of wine, listening to a string quartet play music from Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, with candlelight all around and fish swimming in the background, was such a cool and relaxing experience. It felt really special without being formal or over the top. The Haldon Quartet were great and the music worked perfectly in that setting. Definitely something a bit different and well worth going to — I’d happily do it again.”

“Lovely place to visit with children! You can cuddle guinea pigs, brush the goats and more in the barn, can see more animals like sheep, pigs, chickens etc on a lovely little walk around the grounds. There’s a great indoor play area which is done beautifully, including a small room with some soft play items for younger ones. The outside play space is also charming with a sand pit, ride along mini tractors and hay bail play bits too. There is a cafe next to the indoor play area which is great for catching up. Several toilets and baby change facilities. There is also a nature trail you can walk, and the main cafe / restaurant upstairs, and the farm shop stocked with great locally sourced bits. It is a great day / afternoon out for the family! It might seem expensive for one day entry as it’s not very big, however you only have to go 3 times a year for the annual pass to be worth it (and it also gets you discount in the cafe and farm shop too so quickly makes your money back!). Plus remember the proceeds go to Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust so a cause which helps protest and preserve what’s great about the bay. The farm shop is lovely with locally sourced items such as yummy jams, chutneys, dressings, chocolates, wines, eggs, fresh veg and flowers etc. A deli counter with the option to make takeout lunch boxes (there’s usually some sort of deal on). There are children’s toys and books etc, gifts and homewares too.”
