The décor is a stunning collision of plastic tablecloths (wiped clean with the dedication of a professional chef, yet retaining the ghosts of countless jam spills), mismatched mugs, and local notices thumbtacked over other, older local notices. ​The Architectural Marvel of the Toastie ​The menu here is a masterclass in clarity. There are no pretenders, no spiralized vegetables, and definitely no "deconstructed" anything. You are here for the classics, and Cliffords delivers them with the gravity of a papal decree. ​The Toastie, in particular, deserves its own monograph. It is not just toasted bread and cheese; it is a thermal insulation device, a pocket of molten dairy sealed into a crispy, golden rectangle. It demands a four-minute cool-down period before consumption, as the interior temperature is scientifically engineered to cauterize any latent dental issues. The chips are golden, plentiful, and retain a perfectly crisp exterior—a triumph of frying oil technology. ​Service & Philosophy ​The service at Cliffords operates on a beautiful, Zen-like principle: "It’ll be ready when it’s ready, and not a moment before." This is not slow service; this is forced meditation. It encourages mindfulness, prompting you to truly appreciate the simple things, like the sound of the kettle boiling, or the sight of the same local fisherman reading the same local paper he was reading yesterday. When your mug of tea arrives—a brew so robust it could probably strip wallpaper—you feel a profound sense of accomplishment. ​If you require chrome finishes, silent service, or a charging port at every seat, you misunderstand the assignment. Cliffords Cafe is the real deal: a beacon of greasy, cozy, unpretentious perfection. Go, order the largest portion of something fried, and allow yourself to be transported. “Excellent pub about 12 minutes walk from Tamworth Railway Station. Seven cask beers on handpump when I visited including two stouts. Lots of outdoor seating some of it covered. The lovely C16/part Tudor building is home to Tamworth Brewing Company and its tap. The cosy upstairs rooms have Tudor features and the historic courtyard beer terrace to the rear offers striking views of Tamworth Castle. The Tamworth Tap won the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) National Pub of the Year in both 2022 and 2023!”

Really friendly welcome from the owners, it has lots of very nice rooms all decorated nicely with chandeliers and arm chairs. Highly recommended, will definitely com back again”

“I doubted family run Traditional Italian Restaurants after experiencing so so quality food and samey options delivered by overly passionate staff. Portobello Restaurant has put my faith back in the Italian culinary experience. On entering I was met by grounded, accommodating staff that ensured I was happy with the choice of table. Staff were smiley, chatty and assisted joyfully with the menu options. I opted for some nibbles and their excellently priced 2 courses for £19.95. The atmosphere in Portobello Restaurant is relaxed, sociable and family oriented. The minimalist artistic interior beams with natural light. Dishes were superbly presented, quality was evidently high. The jelly babies and hand written “thank you” on the bill echoed the care they provide to their customers. A wonderful experience.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Outstanding service and warm atmosphere at The Deanery Café From the moment we arrived, the experience at The Deanery Café was nothing short of fantastic. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and genuinely attentive, something you don’t find everywhere. A special mention goes to Daisy, our waitress, who was absolutely brilliant. She was handling multiple tables and customers with ease, like an octopus with eight arms, yet still managed to make us feel looked after. She even offered water for our dog, which was such a thoughtful touch and made us feel truly welcome. The food was excellent, and the coffee hit the spot perfectly. We couldn’t fault anything. The atmosphere was relaxed, cosy, and dog-friendly, everything you’d want from a local café. We’d come back here a thousand times. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Tamworth!”

“Asda Driver here, have been delivering to these guys for years and they always take care of their drivers by offering them a hot drink which is greatly appreciated especially during the colder weathers. “When the sun is out, there is little that beats drinking a cup of Bake180s coffee in the setting of the Courtyard at Middleton Hall. The staff are lovely, the food menu is extensive, prepared in the cute kitchen next door. Best of all, the coffee is prepared with care. Very tasty. Thanks Katlin!”

“Tamworth’s best kept secret Omar Ghalwash’s - Tomahawk steak (approx 1.2kg) to share between 2 people with the most incredible triple cooked chips with the heavenlyist side salad you’ll ever taste all served with chimchurri sauce and a peppercorn sauce at a price that will astonish you in a good way - honestly food heaven I can’t give it 10 out of 10 it has to be way higher than that Fox Inn Dosthill - just trust me xx”

“Great local drinking pub.. lovely atmosphere, drinks at reasonable prices, very popular with locals and always busy every day of the week. Also great outdoor seating area outside to sit and have a drink. They also do 'snack foods' which include scotch eggs, cheese box and various cobs which are really nice and at very good prices. Dogs are welcome in the pub and they even provide doggy treats for free!”

Whether you’re popping in for a quiet drink, there’s always a friendly face. “Hidden gem in Tamworth, me and my wife popped in for a breakfast and a cuppa and we’re greet by a friendly smile, there wasn’t a long wait for the food and it came out piping hot, the quality of the sausages and bacon stand out and it was all cooked to perfection! How they serve a breakfast as this calibre for the price they charge I don’t know, well worth a visit!”

“Never thought to eat here but reviews were favourable so had a quick stop for dinner. It definitely had a drinkers vibe but the lounge was quieter. Anyway, seeing the price of the food (pie / chilli @£5.95!!) we did wonder what the quality would be like. I ordered boozy pie. The puff lid, if I'm being picky, could've been done crisper, but there was tons of tender meat, and the chips and the veg were cooked to perfection. Partners chilli was reported to be very tasty too. Enjoyed our meals. Six quid!!!!!!!”
