    Picnic In The Park

    ★★★★☆ 4.6
    Closed

“Passing through and saw this little place. Popped in for a bacon butty and a wee and it’s made me genuinely sad that I don’t live around the corner so I could visit every week. Staff (Sharon and Darcy) were so friendly even though we aren’t local. They had regulars (known by name) and clearly look after them making everyone feel special. Spending time chatting with an older gentleman. It’s opposite the park and botanical gardens, I walked the dog before popping in. Really wished I lived closer to be able to come back get bits for a picnic and stroll in the parks. Dog friendly too! Bacon butty - banging Takeaway brownie not yet eaten but smells divine. Service warm and friendly And the best bit, evening guest chefs and wine! Anyone have the number of an estate agent?”

“In one of the private rooms for a 14 person event. Room was perfect, it was a Christmas meal and felt super cosy and tucked away from the rest of the pub. Decor was nice. Staff couldn’t have been more attentive. Reasonable price for the food and drink we had. Very likely to return next year! Thank you.”

“Smart, slick and the coffee was pretty good and at a sensible price. The cakes looked good but I didn't try them. Ever since Liz Truss was in power coffee has gone up, chocolate too, I can't think why. But at £2.40 that's good compared to some places at £3.45.”

“Jennifer greeted me when I first came in to do some research into buying a new mattress. She was absolutely charming and so knowledgeable. When I came back with my partner to buy a mattress, Zach helped us and was so helpful. His service was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Their manager of the store (forgotten his name sorry) was also incredibly helpful and lovely when we spoke with him at the end of the process. Thank you to the whole team who made a laborious and overwhelming task an absolute pleasure!”

    Chew Valley Animal Park

“I recently visited Chew Valley Animal Park and booked the private capybara experience, and I have to say it was absolutely worth it. The capybaras were incredible to see up close, and being able to pet and feed them made the experience so special. The animal keeper leading the session was fantastic as well, really engaging, full of knowledge, and clearly passionate about the animals, which made the whole experience even better. On top of that, I really enjoyed the cuddle sessions with the smaller animals. Getting to hold and spend time with the mice, rabbits and guinea pigs was such a lovely part of the visit. My favourite had to be a guinea pig called Coco Chanel, who was a total diva in the best way. In my photos she’s the brown, fluffy one with loads of hair, she definitely stole the show. The park itself is really well set out with great enclosures that look spacious and well cared for. I also loved how interactive it was in certain areas. The goat enclosure in particular was brilliant; as soon as you go in with food, they swarm around you, which was a lot of fun. The arctic fox was another highlight, such a beautiful and majestic animal to see up close. It’s also clear the park has thought about the practical side of things too, with loads of washing stations around, which makes the whole experience a lot more comfortable and family friendly. We stopped at the restaurant as well and were pleasantly surprised. I had the margarita pizza with chips and the pizza was cooked on a stone base, which gave it that lovely authentic taste. On top of that, booking the capybara experience came with a £5 voucher to use on food, which was a really nice bonus. Overall, Chew Valley Animal Park is a fantastic place to visit. Between the amazing animals, the interactive enclosures, the cuddle time with the smaller pets, the knowledgeable staff, and even the little touches like food vouchers and plenty of washing stations, it felt like a really well rounded day out. I’ll definitely be coming back again.”

“We visited in September with our one year old on a cooler/wet day. Lots of animals to see and kids play areas. We had a pram (all terrain) with us and there wasn't anywhere we couldn't go. The cafe had highchairs and plenty of space for the pram. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to feed the guinea pigs and stroke a python. A great family day out. It rained towards the end of our visit - definitely a more fair weather location as it is quite outdoorsy as you would expect. We got to see lots of animals and it was a very quiet day due to the weather. Lots of hand washing facilities, picnic areas and good toilets. The ticket price seemed fair for all they had to offer and we would definitely go back.”

“I took my nephew to this park today and it instantly hit me with a wave of nostalgia. This was the very same park I used to visit as a little one with my family. I remember happily walking down Happy Lane, a narrow footpath decorated with creative artwork from amazing people, though sadly a few have vandalised it with white or pink scribbles. It’s an incredible place that holds so much sentimental value for me. My nephew had an amazing time and especially loved the swings. I was glad to see they’d kept the splash pool too. I have fond memories of splashing around in it as a kid, and seeing him enjoy the park made it feel like my childhood smile had been passed down to him. It’s funny and beautiful how life works sometimes. Nostalgia truly is a gift.”

“We love this park; so much variety and more challenging equipment for older children. We always take bird seed to feed the ducks, moorhens and swans (and pigeons!) who live on the large lake behind the playground. The cafe is lovely and there is usually an icecream van there too. The water play area is fab in the summer (photos show it switched off as it is October), my girls can spend hours playing in it. There is a smallish concrete basketball court which doubles as a football pitch which is very popular. I love the logs dotted around which have been intricately carved with native species. Well worth a visit and definitely one of my favourite Children’s parks in Bristol/South Glos.”
