“Absolutely the best restaurant not just in Merseyside but in the country. It is unique with only about 16 diners, and an ever changing menu with a chef that is just amazing. Every time we go, we always say it's the best meal we have ever had, tasting the food is just the most wonderful experience. The inside decoration is incredible as well, you feel like you are in an incredible mixture of opulence and a beautiful relaxing atmosphere. Pauline is an incredible host as are her team. We will continue to go there and take our friends whose eyes light up when they walk in and then for a second time when they taste the food. Don't think, just book a table, this is a bucket list experience.”

“The menu is great. Many options that you won't easily find together somewhere else. We got a Chateaubriand which is served for 2, and it was great as medium cooked. I would prefer it in thinner slices, but this one was also OK. Juicy, soft, and pink inside. We also got sides of Slow-Cooked Beef Shin and Stuffed Bone Marrow. Bone Marrow could be too fatty for some, but for me it was great as is. Beef Shin was a bit sweet, of being caramelized, i guess. I just didn't like that every single thing in the menu is served with some big amount of grilled/fried onion which I think is the signature of the venue. It was with every single thing we ordered - and it's too much of it at the end. With the desserts, they have quite a lot options again. we got creme brule and biscuit torte. Biscuit torte was a bit too sweet but creme brule was amazing. You also have options of ordering mini-desserts with hot drink costing only 6.50 and I liked this opiton. What I ordered was a full size of it and I guess it might be too big for some after eating that much. What I didn't like regarding the venue is the service which makes you wait quite a long time for only asking for your order. It was too much of allowance for us to think :) Also, we have been seated to a table which was dark due to the lamp which wasn't working. I was told that the lamp was broken for some reason whan I asked that to be turned off - because it was just too dark without that working. And I didn't like that the staff had me seated there knowing it wasn't working while we had some other options. We had been seated to somewhere else then. The price is higher than most of the steak houses in the city, but for an understandable reason after having this experience. You can park your cark in the parking area of the court cross the street. Not an effort to complain for walking to the venue from the parking area.”

“As a first time visitor on Bank Holiday lunchtime, I have no complaints. Everything, and I mean everything was faultless. Lunchtime table for two as a walk in, staff welcoming, waiters and waitresses very polite, attentive. The service was fantastic. The food was superb. A starter, two mains, two desserts and a drink for less than £35 pp. Absolute spot on. We will return for a nice evening meal and a few glasses of wine without a doubt”

“Had a superb Full English here. The place is supplied by local vendors and all of the ingredients were spot on and cooked perfectly. Really nice cup of cappuccino as well. Friendly staff, really busy and lively atmosphere. Absolutely recommend this place. Will definitely be coming back for the black pudding alone.”

“Every time we visit Southport (2 or 3 times a year) we make a point of coming to Empire. The quality of the food never fluctuates. It always remains of a high grade and tastes so good every time. The duck is just amazing and the randang curries full of flavour. Treated like individuals every time, even keeping a drink for us that isn't on the menu. Great service from Henry (and Henrys mum) and Lilly as ever. We look forward to coming back again soon. Thank you”

“Absolutely delightful pub and setting, we stopped off after a short walk on the canal. As my daughter loves live music they let us stay for a little while to little while and listen to it. We are very grateful to them, thank you. Is probably more catered to the hipster student types but if I was 15-20 years younger I would have loved it there. Excellent.”

“Stopped by on a work trip to Chester - the hotel restaurant was busy and they recommended this place and I am really glad I went! The food was lovely - everything tasted very fresh and authentic. It was really busy but they were still able to find a table for me, and the food came out very quickly. Despite being busy, they were very attentive. I ordered the linguine al pesto and the tiramisu and both were fantastic. If I'm ever in Chester again, I'll be sure to pop by again!”

Excellent range of menu choices. The meats are all high end and well cooked. Vegetarian options available, all very healthy and flavoursome. Very impressed and will be back again.”

“We first visited this pub well over 25 years ago for a well earned date night whilst we had a 2 hour babysitter . Sat outside with a bottle of wine and watched the farmer gathering his crops with a combine harvester from the field opposite . This memory has remained with us for all these years . We actually thought the pub had been demolished until by pure fluke we drove past a couple of weeks ago and realised it was still there and thriving ! Called in again for a few drinks sat outside looking at the same farmers field but without the combine unfortunately ! We booked for dinner this evening and all I can say is WOW ! Amazing atmosphere ! Fabulous food ! Great value for money ! Had the chicken & leek pie and couldn’t finish it as I was so full ! Copious amounts of chicken in the pie and mountains of well cooked veg ! Absolutely 10 out of 10 Staff are courteous and attentive and land lord & land lady are simply beautiful & welcoming ! Will definitely be back !!”

“Staff were lovely and really welcoming. The food was freshly made, so took a little longer but was delicious and definitely worth waiting for. The highlight was the Nutella calzone. Although it didn't have fruit inside as advertised, we all thoroughly enjoyed it.”

“Visited for a family event. We were in the upstairs event room. The outdoor terrace had stunning views over the golf course and beyond - so lucky to have such a sunny day, we could see Wales. The bar was well stocked with a great selection of beers and wines at very reasonable prices. Staff were very accommodating and happy to help.”

It seems to be under new management and I couldn't speak more highly of the staff and fantastic service we received. The food was amazing we all said we would come back for more! “We visited the Bistro Franc for dinner on a week night and were not disappointed. On arrival, we were immediately shown to our table. Restaurant does get very busy so will highly recommend booking ahead. Service was amazing, quick, friendly, and very polite. Food was cooked to perfection, and all our meals were yummy. I would highly recommend the lamb shank. It comes in a very generous portion. All in all, we had a great night and I would highly recommend the Bistro Franc in liverpool”

“Visited The castle while our friends dog was being groomed had lovely drinks and different meals for lunch all very nice home cooked food and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely call again 5☆.Also it's a dog friendly pub and our friends dog was given treats from the landlady.”

“My puppy and I visited here on a long walk and oh my gosh the hospitality!!! Anna saw us looking particularly lost and showed us to the garden area. We were then extremely well looked after. Anna provided us with cushions and an umbrella (to block the sun) and the young helpful lad inside got us both a drink. We were looked after so unbelievably well. I’ve honestly never received such an incredible level of hospitality and appreciate it so much. We felt so welcome. Your team who we met were absolutely outstanding, especially Anna. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend ♥️”

“Staff where lovely, food was delicious and the beer was cold. I little bit expensive for the portion sizes but hey, airport prices I guess. I think the chicken and bacon in the salad would have been nice if it was warm but I suppose it makes sense to have it cold in a salad. These are minor complaints however for such good food, drinks and service.”
