“THIS is a proper English pub. Stayed here twice, staff are welcoming, food is incredible, none of those cheap crappy sauces, decent portions, great beer and lovely decor and amenities. Can’t recommend enough!”

“1st time I’ve eaten at the Cods Scallops this evening. Ordered the cod & chips with sides of mushy peas & curry sauce all washed down with their own “Scale Ale” beer and have to say I was seriously impressed. Delicious and generously portioned fresh fillet of cod in a very light crispy batter, chips golden brown and crisp with a light fluffy centre. Just the way they should be! Mushy peas were just like grandma used to make! Absolutely delicious! All cooked fresh and piping hot! These guys know how to do it right! Absolutely Delicious! Top marks to the Cods Scallops! Very happy customer and will be back soon!”

“We stopped for a weekday lunch and have to say we had a great experience. The venue is cosy and welcoming and nicely decorated. The food was excellent and well presented, and service was top-notch Dogs are welcome inside, which is an added bonus. A good selection of beers and ales, including independent brewers.”

“Had a wonderful Christmas dinner at The Old Vol! Everything was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were fantastic too. My favorite dish had to be the stuffed turkey and the truffle mushroom hash brown bites. Chef Hira treated us so well as always—such a pleasure!”

“Last Saturday ( 27 May ) twenty-nine of us enjoyed a lunch at the Peartree. It was a very happy carefree occasion with very good food and the most attentive and caring service. The staff really put themselves out to ensure we all enjoyed ourselves and they succeeded. The only downside is that some of us will have to diet as the sticky toffee pudding was not as low cal as I kidded myself. Congratulations to a first class team.”

“I recently visited New China City as part of a Chinese takeaway tour I’m doing and this one is up there with the best. The special chow mein was great quality, well seasoned with soy and had lots of chicken and king prawns in it whilst the crispy beef was in a sweet and spicy sauce.”

Always something on from pool and darts night to karoke, sticky 13's, bingo, quiz's, penny raffle and bounus ball. Definitely recommend weather your single, couples or a family. Dog friendly”

“Recommend the lemon chicken, the nicest I have ever eaten, all cooked fresh, with chips or rice. Also the chicken balls, proper chunks of chicken in a really nice light and crispy batter. I had a set three course menu and the portions were generous. It also has a license for drinks.”

“came here for brunch with friends, between us we tried both the vegetarian and vegan breakfasts, as well as hot and iced lattes. was very impressed by the range of dishes offered and the way that the vegan and veggie dishes didn’t just seem like an afterthought. very reasonably priced - full English with a coffee for £11 a head and not lacking on quality or portion size either!! coffee was great too, and we were told that it’s from a local roaster too which is great. Staff were very polite and friendly and it’s just so nice to find another cosy spot that is reasonably priced and caters to everyone!!!”

“We were here for a wedding. The space was beautifully decorated. It looked gorgeous and rustic, perfect for photos. As vegans we felt pleasantly surprised by the amount of choices available to us. The starters and dessert in particular were nice. Service was great, everyone was attentive and helpful. The musician, Paul Tabor, that was playing was incredible. Overall we’d highly recommend it.”

“I went to a private event here where they provided food and, because I'm vegan, they provided me with my own separate plate of food, with vegan cheese and other yummy things! They also did the same for another guest with dietary requirements (gluten free). I was really impressed and their service was lovely and friendly too. They were also dog friendly :)”

“Had no money and politely asked to use the toilets and was granted access. Was able to suit and boot myself to no expense. Seems popular and chilled out. Also managed, the scruff I am to appropriate some tobacco unselfishly not made obsolete with tap water. A tragic ploy by some landlords but not these.
