“Had a couple of very good Sunday meals here. Nice pub with a separate dining room. Excellent food and you do get a lot. Also veggie friendly - if you mention that when you book the chef will do a special meal, which my wife said was very tasty.”

“Gate Inn is a pleasant place to stay. The location is convenient, close to the main attractions. The rooms are clean and cosy, there is everything you need. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready to help. Breakfast is tasty, with a wide choice of dishes. In the restaurant you can try local specialities. Prices are moderate. From the minuses - sometimes it can be noisy because of the proximity to the road. Overall, I recommend Gate Inn for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Excellent value for money.”

“We have visited a few times for drinks but today was the first time we dined. The Sunday lunch was wonderful - better than anything else we've had in the area. Great staff lead by a fabulous host and the pub itself is lovely and in a good location. No hesitation in recommending this place”

“Definitely recommended. Had simply an excellent meal, really outstanding. We were there on a Saturday evening -and the place was bustling and busy, but the food still came out in a timely fashion. No less than three different people came by to apologize for the wait (though again, I didn't think we were waiting that long), and to make sure we were OK. I also saw the waitstaff interacting with other customers -they make people feel welcome. No problems with the excellent service here. Just wish it was closer to where I live!”

“This is our second visit from Doncaster and the staff are lovely and friendly and food is good too, nice and hot as some Wetherspoons we have to send back as chips are only warm. We were particularly impressed with Zak who was very helpful and polite.”

“Nice quiet wee motorway stop off, when we were there it was quiet, but still well staffed. Coffee was surprisingly Starbucks and the tea was good too and there is a pretty standard range of sandwiches, snacks and cakes. Toilets are fresh, well maintained and clean, there is a small but functional carpark and a drive through window.”

“Just for the carvery Amazing price (£11.99 at time of writing), with very well cooked meats (pork, lamb, beef) and excellent extras. Cauliflower cheese and mash got best reception with our family. Super service, friendly staff and lovely setting. Other customers were really friendly too, so s great atmosphere. Unbelievable price for a jug of Pimm's too!! (See pics)”

“The most underrated takeaway in Retford. Looks a bit ghetto some people might say but food tastes delicious. Food was fresh and nicely cooked. The last chinese takeaway we had a few months ago from a different place in Retford(F) left us very disappointed since it was our favourite place to order from, so we decided to try this one instead for a full meal. So glad we did. We've had the salt&pepper prawns a few times from here before and they're delicious. Will come back again for sure.”

We thoroughly enjoyed the food here, trying oysters for the first time – we didn’t dislike them, but not sure they’re one of our favourite foods haha (no fault of the restaurant of course)! We also really liked the pork, duck and of course the desserts, especially the apple crumble tart. We have a lovely evening, meeting some other fellow food lovers, and would hope to return to this beautiful hotel to experience much more of what it has to offer. My only gripe was paying £12 for a large wine and £6 for a bottle of water!!”
