Been a loyal customer for over a decade now but the past year they’ve really upped their game considerably - the full English comes with even higher quality ingredients now! It’s got that perfect mix of comfy corners for a quiet pint and a lively bar when you fancy some good company. A big part of its charm comes from the new landlady, Jen, who’s absolutely fantastic. Her warmth and enthusiasm have really brought the place to life, making everyone feel like a regular. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.”

“Food was amazing! Portion sizes not the biggest but that's not a bad thing as taste and quality excellent. Prices are reasonable and you can always add a side. Plus allows room for starters or pudding! Service and atmosphere friendly and welcoming.”

“Nick’s is brilliant. In a time where service is usually poor, these guys have always stood out! They’re kind and always helpful, engaging with children, have recommendations and always come smiling! The food is incredible; portions are generous without compromising on quality and the consistency seems to be there as well have been a couple of times. Even simple things like a Greek salad are done well! Highly recommend and will be returning again very soon!”

“Be meaning to pop in for ages , so after the pier brought the kids in because I love anything bbq . I just love smoked meat my two boys had the nuggets and chips kids meal great value coming with drinks the eldest said best chicken nuggets ever and he's the most fussy person I have ever meet. I live for burnt ends pulled pork was great and the sausage , lucky I was parked at the end in a booth and the ribs hands on I was covered in bbq sauce. Staff really friendly and attentive. Lovely clean .”

“Great atmosphere and very pleasant staff—everyone was friendly and welcoming. The prices were excellent, offering great value for money. We were even given some complimentary roast potatoes and a dip, which was a lovely touch and really added to the experience. Overall, a fantastic visit. Will definitely be coming back!”

“Lovely Italian restaurant had the £8.95 pizza and beer or soft drink the pizza was delicious and covered in topping and the chef was very friendly .My husband said it was the best pizza he had every eaten for freshness/topping/authentic tasting and believe me when I say he has eaten hundreds of pizzas”

“Amazing food! So good that we came 2 days in a row. I only wish we tries it on the first day we could but alas, we stumbled upon it on the second last and last day of being in Cardiff. The lovely batista person behind the till had asked if we wanted a loyalty card and we explained we were on holiday. When we went back the next day he asked us if we were certain and we said we were sadly driving off after our breakfast. I noticed after paying for some sandwiches etc. for the road, that they had peanut butter, dark chocolate and sea salt cookies and asked my husband to get me one and the batista person gave me it on the house for returning, and wished us a safe journey. This genuinely made my whole day! Please go here, its soo good. I recommend the rose and jasmine tea, and honestly anything with poached eggs because the food was outstanding.”

“Beautiful pub in a lovely location. My children had three courses which were very well proportioned and they really enjoyed everything they had. Me and my partner had the Sunday roasts which were absolutely stunning. I also had the chocolate fondant for dessert which was gorgeous! Amazing food, brilliant service from all the staff and a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting again. My daughter even asked if we could go there for all our food!! “My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Coal Exchange on the 8th of August 2025, and we honestly can’t speak highly enough of the entire experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. A big thank you to Jamie on reception, who was incredibly friendly and polite – he made us feel instantly welcome and set the tone for a fantastic stay. Our room was stunning – beautifully decorated, spacious, and spotlessly clean. The highlight was definitely the spa bath in the room, which added a luxurious and relaxing touch to our evening. It was the perfect way to unwind. We also had the chance to dine at the hotel’s restaurant, and the food was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Special mention goes to restaurant managers Haley and Sam T, who were both outstanding – attentive, professional, and clearly passionate about delivering a great dining experience. All in all, The Coal Exchange exceeded our expectations in every way. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!”
