“We went for Breakfast with Santa and it was a fantastic experience. The price was very reasonable, and the food was delicious. Luci and the rest of the staff were amazing—so friendly, welcoming, and great with the kids. It really made the morning special. Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!”

“We came today, Sunday 3rd. Lisa was absolutely brilliant, even though she was rushed off her feet! She was so lovely and attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing, one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had, and really reasonably priced. Dessert was also lovely. Would highly recommend x”

“I have been going to the Highfields for many years, it has an amazing community atmosphere and the people are very friendly. The staff and management are lovely and very welcoming, always ready to have a chat and some laughs. The customer service is excellent. The pub has a large bar, a skittle alley which also has a dart board and a pool table, these are always popular. The lounge has recently been decorated and already hosted some great parties. Highly recommend this pub 10 out of 10!”

“We had a brilliant family get-together here last Sunday. We booked at short notice and the staff were so accommodating even giving us a private area for our party of 17, where we were also able to watch the football. Everybody ate and the food and service was superb! Also great value. Would highly recommend and look forward to going back.”

“This may seem a strange occasion for leaving a review, but we had the post-funeral wake for my mum at the Ridgeway recently and they looked after us as well as we could have asked. We booked the cold buffet and this was excellent. A range of well filled sandwiches and rolls (we asked for veg and non-veg), quiches, salad, and some delicious delicacies, and then cakes to follow. It was more than enough for the numbers we ordered, even with many going back for more. The service was excellent. A very busy bar was looked after very efficiently by the staff, who were friendly and helpful through the afternoon and evening. No one wants to plan for a wake, but the team at the Ridgeway looked after us beautifully.”

“Me and my partner visited today (4th of October). We enjoyed so much, girl servicing was so nice, polite and helpful. Food was outstanding!!!! I've had steak which was exactly as I like it, there was no trouble when we asked for my chips to be cooked a bit more, Dave had mix grill, everything was cooked to perfection!!!! Beer was nice too. We will highly recommend this pub to everyone. Thank you very much.”

“Stayed here on 08th April as we had family staying local. The atmosphere was amazing there was a comedian on who was hilarious!! The owners Gareth and Tash were absolutely sound! “Lovely hotel over looking the river Severn, the staff are welcoming and we even got offered a lift to the station from the owner. We stayed here as was far cheaper than Cardiff with Ed Sheeran in concert on and only a 15 minute train trip to the city centre. Yes we would definitely stay here again.”

“Me and my family had a lovely visit to the newly refurbished Captains Wife! The food, service and ambiance was all perfect! I would definitely recommend! The roast potatoes were beautifully cooked, I went for the trio and all the meat was so succulent and tasteful! We will definitely be back! “Cracking little pub and has turned around from previous visits. Staff are very friendly and even allowing changes to meals as I don't like BBQ sauce so swapped to hot sauce for my hunters chicken. Very good value for money and a reasonable pace for food. Look forward to my next visit”

“Amazing prices, great beers. Very clean and fabulous black sparkly bar surface, generally a very nice atmosphere. Unfortunately some of the people using this pub do not appreciate the fantastic value for money as this place is better than even Wetherspoons on beer, lager and cider prices, no one comes close to the Bristol house and yet despite being provided a great space outside with ashtrays to smoke and vape, they chuck their fag ends all over the place and it really is a mess. Staff are very hard working and on the rare occasions some people get loud they control situations well and it always feels safe.”

“I've been to the landing light a lot and its always been a nice experience. They've recently changed some of the menu and the baked camembert is huge! Was a pleasant surprise. Staff are always friendly and the food is very nice with good size portions.”

We completed our walk over Caerphilly Mountain and Trig Point and could see for miles over the Egwysian, Caerphilly, the Bristol Channel, Steel Holm, flat Holm and Cardiff. The young people inside this real ale pub were loud, but all in hood fun Music not to my taste /I'm and I visited old foagie like/ This pub served 3 great real ales picture posted on pubs website. “This historical Welsh public house has so much rich history. The pub is currently being run to a fantastic standard and is a joy to see punters returning. My only concern is the fight the pub now has with its Brewery owner selling the building with an application for change of use to offices for new owners. This would be short of criminal to Welsh heritage.”
