“A ‘hidden gem’ right in the middle of Melbourne! We popped in today for a bit of lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find a lovely tapas type menu (a bit different from the usual Melbourne coffee and cake type cafe). The staff were very pleasant and accommodating and the food and drinks are well priced. Well worth a visit.”

“My go to cafe for price, music, decor, friendly staff and atmosphere. The cafe is central to Derby Centre. The front window does not give this cafe a good impression but when inside you will not be disappointed. The food is great, wonderful atmosphere, music and decor, prices are brilliant and staff are outstanding. Please give this cafe a try and you will see what I mean. Brilliant keep up the good work guys. Just been awarded the winner of the best cafe by the Food and Drinks standards.”

“I’ve lived in Derby for more than 30 years and never knew that this has the best coffee in town! The owner is Italian and makes super good coffee that will actually wake you up! He’s also friendly, super accommodating and made an ice latte despite it not being on the menu. Look forward to trying food next time”

“This is our favourite and go to for a breakfast. The food is always consistently good. The staff are friendly and approachable. Great if you have children as well. It's usually quite busy because it's popular - BECAUSE ITS GOOD. Would recommend to others. Good prices as well. ❤️”

We also had a bacon cob which was lovely they asked how we wanted our bacon (which is rare in my opinion) and it came out on a lovely fresh cob. The staff were pleasant and friendly. “I needed to meet a colleague for lunch, and Melbourne happens to be equidistant from our houses. I came across Meaks online. It looked like a good quality venue with a large menu and reasonable pricing. I sent a quick email to double check they would be open, have availability and that they would not mind us sitting for a couple of hours with our laptops. I was surprised to get a response almost immediately. Most venues don't seem to reply at all, let alone so quickly. I arrived early because breakfast looked great too! Neither of us was disappointed. We had breakfast, coffee, a snack and then sandwiches. All were great. I didn't realise until afterwards, but your coffee is under-priced. I would thoroughly recommend and I am now looking for excuses to make the trip again so I can try something else! Thanks again Meaks”

“The Boot is half walk to meet my mom, and we’ll 100% be back. Fabulous location just off the A38, and plenty of parking. The food was sublime and a wine list to generously accompany the dishes. A running theme with all my reviews is that I like a nice wine list and the Boot offers exactly that. The food was so fresh and full of flavour, beautifully presented. A real Gastro Pub that welcomes dogs which is important for us as a family of dog owners, who enjoy the finer things. Thank you to the wonderful Heidi who look after us, you made mom’s birthday experience thorough enjoyable. We’ll be back!”

Good selection of breakfast options from various toasts to waffles. The coffee was top notch as well and the food tasted as good as it looks. Would recommend trying the waffles with bacon. Will definitely visit again when possible. Free street parking available up to an hour.”

“My friend and I went for a late lunch, the staff were lovely, it was very clean and the cafe had a lovely atmosphere. We both opted for jacket potatoes and were eyeing up the wonderful cake selection. On this occasion we didn't cave into the sweet tooth but we both plan on a return visit so that we can try them out. “I stayed in Derby for a week and tried a few different places for breakfast. I found the book cafe to be the best. Excellent quality food. Particularly enjoyed the scrambled eggs which were light and flurry. Every item on the plate was of good quality. The location of the cafe is very central and the quirky ambience adds to the experience. Only slightly marked down service as there was no table service, only order at the bar was available but that said the staff were nice and friendly. I’d gladly return to the book cafe in the future and recommend to others”
