“Been there 3 times now and can say everytime I have gone the food has been amazing! I have been with company too. We've tried the pizza, burgers, hot honey chicken, beef stroganoff and all of it has tasted so good. The chef's are so talented. For the cost and for what it is, it's just presented perfectly to me. “The Boot is half walk to meet my mom, and we’ll 100% be back. Fabulous location just off the A38, and plenty of parking. The food was sublime and a wine list to generously accompany the dishes. A running theme with all my reviews is that I like a nice wine list and the Boot offers exactly that. The food was so fresh and full of flavour, beautifully presented. A real Gastro Pub that welcomes dogs which is important for us as a family of dog owners, who enjoy the finer things. Thank you to the wonderful Heidi who look after us, you made mom’s birthday experience thorough enjoyable. We’ll be back!”

“Had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast here for a birthday treat. I've never had a multiple course breakfasts in this sort of format, so that was interesting. The location is adorable, especially if you can get a window seat. Staff were patient and friendly. The food was amazing! Good quality ingredients, tasteful sauces. The crumpet for my eggs benedict initially looked store bought, but it had much better flavour and texture when eating. Mushrooms on toast was so savoury and creamy, but not overly saucy. The brioche used was not overly sweet, so a good balance for various plates. Would happily return, and looking forward to trying a lunch/dinner menu.”

The food was superb , steaks cooked to perfection , starters beautifuly presented and generous portion size. Could not fault the place and will be going again. When back in Derby. “An absolutely faultless, Christmas's Day meal / experience! Often, I've been for Christmas Day meals, only to be left disappointed by the food, service, or friendliness of the staff. This far surpasses anything I've previously experienced! I know it's hard for staff to work on Christmas Day, but these couldn't have done more for us. The team were all extremely friendly, and welcoming. Our server (Ollie) couldn't have done more for us. He was always there for drinks orders, and even made time to chat, despite being very busy. The food was exceptional and very presented. The price, considering it was Christmas Day, was extremely reasonable too. Even the little touches, such as a Christmas card, added to a very pleasant meal. Thank you so much to The Otter, and their excellent team and service.”

“Attended a wine and cheese tasting event at Amalfi White - what a fantastic experience! The lovely Emma hosted us and her knowledge of wines and the process of wine production was so interesting- we also tried (and were converted to) some wines we had never thought of or heard of! “I recently revisited Bistrot Pierre after a long time and decided to try their Soirée Gastronomique evening, a six-course dining experience priced at just £26.95—an incredible value for money. As it was my birthday, I had signed up for Club Bistrot Pierre, which gifted me a free bottle of wine. We opted for the red, and it was a lovely addition to the meal. On top of that, the app offered a free bread side, which was absolutely delicious—fresh, hot, and paired with amazing butter that melted perfectly. The six courses were well-paced and thoughtfully curated. My favourite dish was the Camembert cheese with bread—rich, gooey, and indulgent. The full menu for the evening included: 1. Vegetable tortellini – A light yet flavourful start. 2. Baked Camembert – Absolute perfection with the bread. 3. Cod with potatoes – Cooked beautifully, simple yet satisfying. 4. Eton Mess-inspired dessert – Sweet, airy, and refreshing. 5. Cheese board – A well-balanced selection of cheeses. 6. Hot drink – A comforting end to a great meal (I didn’t take a photo of the tea) For the quality and variety of food, £26.95 per person felt like an absolute bargain. The service could have been faster, but it was super busy! The overall experience was fantastic, from the welcoming atmosphere to the thoughtfully crafted menu. I’d highly recommend this evening for anyone looking to enjoy a tasting-style dining experience at a great price. Looking forward to visiting again!”

“I recently had the pleasure of dining at Afrikana restaurant, and I must say it was an exceptional experience worthy of a five-star review. The highlight of my visit was the THIC Chick buttermilk chicken burger, which was nothing short of spectacular. The flavours were excellently balanced and the presentation was outstanding, making the dish a delight not only to taste but also to behold. Accompanying the burger, I opted for the plain chips, which were cooked to perfection. However, I also had the chance to sample the Afrikana chips from my wife's plate and was impressed by their delightful seasoning. I wholeheartedly recommend opting for these seasoned chips as they add a wonderful flavour dimension to the meal. The atmosphere at Afrikana was vibrant and inviting, with Afro music providing a smooth and energetic backdrop to the dining experience. “Great place for a laugh, game of darts, pool and the quiz night on a Tuesday is a good time. Also great to go back the next day when you need to be fed and they will look after you and your sore head. Kids are welcome and the atmosphere is child friendly and the outside seating is denominator on a hot day it’s great vibes.”

“Visited here with a group of friends after a walk in the local area. Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I ordered from the set menu which was 2 courses for £16.99 at the weekend. Food was really good, great sized portions and really tasty. Good value for money. Excellent range of draft beers on tap. Would definitely recommend and return.”

“The service is very quick, however that isn't reflected in the food. People often associate fast food with sub standard. This is not the case here. The service was fantastic, the food on offer was great. Dom did a fantastic job I went for the sausages, broccoli, mashed potato all served in a Giant Yorkshire Puddings. Great Dinner for under £9”

“I love this pub and the history behind it. This pub, Derby oldest pub, has remained remarkably original, with 16th century beams, heavy stone flooring, wood panelling and etched leaded windows. This was an old coaching inn, it is said to have been a stopping-off point for highwaymen including Dick Turpin. Several ghosts reputedly haunt the pub, which is a regular calling place for ‘Ghost Walks’ organised by local celebrity Richard Felix, who stars in the TV series ‘Most Haunted’. The stories of the history of the pub are made real by the ghosts that haunt the pub. From the boy that sits on the stairs, the Grey Lady that haunts the steak bar that the landlord himself, Jim Harris has witnessed; or it’s the flying Scotsman that runs up and down the corridor that breaks up the two buildings of the pub. Finally there’s the scariest of them all, the girl that lives in the cellar. A doctor who lived on site would dissect humans who have passed away in order to gain insight into the human body. One cold evening in the middle of the night a presumed dead girl opened her eyes and came back to life as the doctor was practicing his dissection skills. Every now and then the horrified screams of the girl can be heard in the dead of night.”

“3 aging cyclists arrived tired and hungry to The Mill Wheel looking for an afternoon meal. I had the traditional fish and chips (best chips I've had in a long while), mushy peas and tartar sauce, 2nd had gammon (which was a joint !), 3rd had the chicken with fondant potatoes and green vegetables, now the latter knows his food and if its not right he wants to see the chef but there was nothing left on his plate, in fact, all 3 of us cleared our plates. I understand the Mill is under new management, well congratulations to the owners and staff because, regards the food you are off to a great start. Wish you well for the future.”

Been here many times over the last few years and really enjoy walking round the marina where this restaurant is located as well. Nice to have places like this within a short drive.”
