    The Village Restaurant

    ★★★★☆ 4.6
    Closed

“We searched for lunch in Plymouth looked at the new bit which all seemed quiet so proceeded to the barbican and choose the place that looked like everyone knew about ‘Village Seafood’ it didn’t have the glitz and glam no flashing lights or big promotional stuff outside but it had people! Lots of them so what do they all know that we currently did not…. Greeted straight away, given a table and menu which was actually three menus quite vast selection. I opted for Greek then changed my mind to seafood settled on a mixed grill then ordered Greek. If you are indecisive make sure you allocate more time here. I was swayed by the table next to me having moussaka as it looked superb. My partner who’s a catch went for the cold seafood which she received in abundance personally sometimes seafood I find it to be a little small for me but this plate was full so much so I had to assist. During this time I observed other plates and food envy is high everything just looked amazing not that I would have swapped mine I just wished I could eat 6 or 7 plates… as mentioned it’s not dazzling here there’s nothing spectacular about the place like the other ‘fancy’ big chain restaurants we looked into but they don’t need it. It’s all about the food which was spectacular and for me if I’m going out eating it’s my only concern to be honest I don’t feel they are trying to impress they are just doing food and doing it very well that it impresses you as standard. You want good food here it is. The service I also thought was great very attentive we were serviced very well only slight issue was with the amount of head on the beer, we asked, they fixed, problem solved. I would say prices were good too, living in Newquay where your stung as a tourist everyday it was nice to be a tourist and be saving money whilst vastly improving the quality and experience. I am looking forward to returning who knows what I will go for next… we all know it’s fish…pie.. of the day..pasta definitely something from the menu and of no doubt it will be great.”

“Saltram is a must visit NT. The house is just wow. Every room you enter is just better than the previous one. The room guides are really happy to talk and answer any questions. The gardens are also really easy to walk around and really peaceful. There is also a beautiful chapel cafe and again the staff were so helpful. One of my favourite properties for sure.”

“Small place on a wooded hill. Really nice people. We had a walk around. Then ate at the cafe in the carpark opposite (who gave us a discount because we'd visited Shaldon Wildlife Trust). Then we went around for a second time! They were happy for us to leave and come back which I thought was lovely of them. Mainly monkeys, some meerkats, and lemurs. Beautiful squirrels with amazing colours and small wild cats.”

“Went in at 4pm, booked within the hour. Courtney went above and beyond to make me feel at ease and answer all questions, I can’t thank her enough for putting my mind at ease that we were making the right choice in where we were going. I had found the holiday online, but then when I went back next day couldn’t find it. I had screen shotted it and showed Courtney and she found it straight away. They also have a Facebook page so if you have any questions you can write on there and they reply really quickly too. Highly recommend using TUI Paignton to book your next holiday.”

“Me and my family really enjoyed our day here. Definitely enough animals to make a day out for the family. My kids loved the seeing all the animals but the giraffes, crocodiles and monkey's definitely stood out for us. Maps need updating for toilets as we found some in a different area than listed. Enjoyed the play areas, food areas and a little win a teddy section. Also enjoyed a lovely icecream. Would recommend!”

“Very nice food indeed. Its worth a visit if only to try the Beef Nigiri & Chicken Bau buns. Both were supeb. The Ramen and Udon nooles were very good as well. If you are after a meal that is not the more typical fast food based food generally on offer elsewhere then it is definitely a good option.”

    1620 Pub & Eatery

“Excellent, very tasty and filling Sunday lunch. Three of us and we each had something different: for starters, Caprese salad, Arancini with beef n Ragu, Arancini with mozzarella, and truffle. Then different mains: lamb, chicken, and roast beef. We each commented on the taste, with hickory which made it very pleasant but it was all cooked v well, esp the meat and the roast potatoes, I felt. Excellent latte coffees to finish, too. (We were too full for dessert!) We had a window table so very light, which was good. The service was very good, patient and informative when asked. The ambience was relaxed and chatty - bistro type pub? Toilets were modern n v clean too. Would definitely recommend.”

The Devon Bird of Prey Centre

    ★★★★☆ 4.5

“Had a truly wonderful experience today - being out of season myself and my partner were the only visitors there when we arrived so it was super quiet. The staff had paid attention to my partner when he mentioned I really liked owls and they allowed us to get super close. Something I never expected - which was an amazing experience. They were on hand to answer questions and spoke to us about the birds and advised us when they were feeding each so we could watch and ask questions. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and their love for the birds was clear. We’ll definitely be back when we visit Devon again next year!”

“We went to the Rings and Dragons Candlelight concert at the National Marine Aquarium during the Christmas period and absolutely loved it. Sitting there with a glass of wine, listening to a string quartet play music from Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, with candlelight all around and fish swimming in the background, was such a cool and relaxing experience. It felt really special without being formal or over the top. The Haldon Quartet were great and the music worked perfectly in that setting. Definitely something a bit different and well worth going to — I’d happily do it again.”

    Zoo

“Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers today who were so attentive. Because the zoo was so quiet it felt like we were getting a private tour! So many times we would be at an enclosure only for a volunteer to stumble across us so we were able to ask loads of questions about the animals we were looking at. (So sorry we didn't get names but the volunteer on uni placement who did the wolf talk, the chap who chatted to us about the leopards, and the two volunteers in the reptile house who introduced us to every animal in there). Although the zoo may be smaller than most, it means it is so easy to go back to animals that may have been hiding on your first visit or to pop back to see your favourites. We very much enjoyed all the animals that they had there, especially the resident house cat who we spent ages fussing. We also appreciated the free annual pass which comes included on your standard ticket, totally unexpected! We will definitely be sure to return more frequently now because of it! Such good value for money! We love We Bought A Zoo and love being able to support the zoo that inspired the film!”

    The Tamar Valley Donkey Park

“Lovely little place, no bells or whistles just simple, basic sanctuary. You can tell they spend what money they have on the donkeys (and goats & ponies) rather than on the non essential human side of things. Small shop and cafe as well as indoor and outdoor play areas for kids. Wheel friendly (one small steepish slope to access the donkey paddocks) and compact enough to allow those with limited mobility to visit all the paddocks without too much trouble”
