“Nice comfortable pub with a large selection of Titanic Brewery ales (brewed down the road in Stoke), plus a couple of guest ales. Had the Totally Leek Burger which was just £7.95 for a very tasty burger garnished with cheese, bacon and salad, along with fries and onion rings - all sourced as locally as possible. A modest portion but really good quality and perfect for lunch.”
“Pavilion Gardens in Buxton is a truly lovely place to visit and perfect for a relaxing yet enjoyable day out. The gardens themselves are beautifully kept, offering a peaceful setting for a stroll, a sit-down, or time with family. What really makes the experience stand out is the fantastic choice of restaurants and cafés nearby. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re after a light bite, a coffee, or a proper meal – all with great quality and a welcoming atmosphere. The combination of well-maintained gardens, attractions and excellent food options makes Pavilion Gardens a real gem in Buxton. It’s somewhere you can easily spend hours and leave feeling refreshed and well looked after. Highly recommended for couples, families, or anyone looking for a great day out.”
“The rooms around the back are cosy-sized but very comfortable. I stayed on a drizzly Wednesday night so there was no one sat outside the back of the pub and it was very quiet - can't say how quiet it would be on a Saturday night. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful. They had my cooked breakfast ready when I came down in the morning as they knew I needed to leave early, and they locked my bike in a secure room and had it out ready in the morning without me having to ask. Just be aware that if you come by train, it's at the top of the hill!”
“What a fabulous building so much history. Run by English heritage so free for members. Tours are a must they are fabulous. Free car park for members”
“We were on the lookout for a spontaneous dinner and drinks spot and were pleased to stumble upon The House of the Rising Sun. From the moment we arrived, the customer service stood out—they made sure we were accommodated even though we didn’t have a reservation. Since it was a last-minute night out, we ended up seated at the high chairs, which were a bit uncomfortable, especially if you’re dressed up (like in a tight shirt dress). The interior design is impressive—stylish and atmospheric, though a little too dim for dining. It feels more like a place that’s tailored for drinks and conversation. One standout feature is the bar with its aquarium-style backsplash—absolutely eye-catching. We tried the Teriyaki Beef and Chicken Katsu. The katsu was excellent—crispy, flavorful, and definitely best enjoyed with rice. The beef, on the other hand, was slightly chewy and not as tender as expected. For drinks, we had the classic Mojito and their signature cocktail, Land of Smiles. The latter was a highlight—refreshing with a unique spicy kick that really elevated the experience. Overall, The House of the Rising Sun is a lovely spot for a date night, especially if you’re after a cozy ambiance and creative cocktails. We’d definitely go back—hopefully with a reservation next time!”
“Cool old pub, relaxed atmosphere, lovely staff and tasty, well cooked food. Had the veggie roast, good value and generous portions, extra gravy without asking and some cauli cheese too on the side! First visit, was great.”
“I have visited Higher Ground on numerous occasions and love the decor, atmosphere and delicious food. Staff are always polite and attentive. I often visit with my children and mum who has mobility issues and staff go out of their way to accommodate us on a table that is accessible for her. The food is always delicious, and it is clear that they use the best locally sourced products. I usually go for brunch but recently tried the Shawarma wrap that was amazing. Would definitely recommend.”
“Food is lovely. Pies divine. Thanks for a lovely evening.”
“I had expected much less considering it’s just a sea life within a theme park but it’s actually quite dense! Lots of fun, and a nice break from the rollercoasters.”
“Wonderful, very clean area, well maintained paths, beautiful variety of plants, some of the walks could be sign posted better, there are some more accessible walks if you have mobility issues. Pleanty of different car parks, but bare in mind the car park you choose may vary the immediate accessibility of the walks so I'd advise you pick your carpark based on rhe walk you choose. Dog friendly just clean up after your pets. There are bins at key points throughout the park as well as park benches and picnick tables. This park is tended with the help of Park Hall Friends who help clean the area and maintain its splendid atmosphere.”
“Lovely hidden gem of woodland which is much larger than it appears! Popular with dog walkers and runners, there's plenty of space for everyone. Lots of space to explore with the kids.”
“Little quirky museum with amazing staff who carry out the shows and truly engage the visitors. Despite my late arrival, I was made to feel welcomed and the attention and knowledge given by the staff to ensure that I could learn more about the steam machines and how they operated and still do was appreciated.”
“Very nice canal side pub with proper prices not a rip off”
“This is one of the best Rocker pubs I've been to. Always nice welcoming people in there and is normally used as a pre drink area for the venue next door the Sugermill.”
“We had an excellent meal at this restaurant which we hadn’t been to before. Service very friendly and efficient. Good choice especially vegetarian food.”
“Walked it after a long day at work, they did an excellent pint of Bass, of which I had 2 pints. Some local people we got talking too were very friendly, will definitely be going in again.”
“Fabulous park; I visit it all year round with my dog, Kevin. A great mix of open grass areas, wooden glades; there is a bandstand, skate park, fenced playground, large pond, small feeder pool, a community garden, loads of parking via multiple car parks, and a good leisure centre with swimming pool, spin classes etc. a really great park for everyone.”
“What a lovely museum, with working water wheels and such friendly and knowledgeable volunteers! We arrived with about 20 minutes until close and Nick gave us the full tour with such enthusiasm and perfectly aimed to capture the kids imagination. Highly recommend this small, but perfectly formed gem. Also learnt loads we didn’t know about the local industry and entrepreneurialism from hundreds of years ago.”
“Quiz night, very welcoming, good range of beers and soft drinks”
“We had a lovely day trip to Blackpool on Sunday 6/04/25. The driver who I think was named Dave, was really pleasant , very helpful. This isn't our first trip either with Copelands, all the drivers have been very pleasant, welcoming & helpful. Never been disappointed with any trip. So we'd highly recommend.”
“Amazing food. I usually only have korma but was persuaded to try something different. The gentleman said he would make it mild for me. It was really nice. They are willing to change dishes around with ingredients. Excellent service”
“I have know Abdul for as long as he has been supplying quality food in Stafford. He has always been most helpful and obliging. The quality of the food supplied by Thawa Bridge is excellent and I feel is the best take away Indian cuisine in the area. Don't take it from m, try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed”
“Great pub nice atmosphere freindly people. Cosy with the coal fire burning very welcoming. Spotless clean. Lovely owners & staff.”
“New owner is very welcoming and his scones are fabulous Just been for coffee and scone after walk around marina New own shared his plans for his extension for additional sitting and plans for expansion of menu and opening hours Sounds very exciting keep watching for further updates”
“Amazing local pub with great surroundings (stunning oak work and fireplace), friendly staff and locals. Not the widest variety of ales (3 or 4 real ales), but very well kept good traditional ales plus Salopian Oracle.”
“Admittedly did turn my nose up as it's not the most inviting of buildings. Tried it & it's absolutely the best curry I've had in a while. I've been to a lot of curry houses too.”

“Well well well, what can I say! I rarely post reviews but Taisa's care for our son's toe has compelled me to write this review. Back in Feb/March, his toe was severely infected after a trauma and our GP gave him antibiotics. Listed for nail surgery. We phone around as he was in pain - no appointments for at least a week. Stumbled on Taisa Clinic, Taisa took pity and kindly gave an appointment after her work at weekend. Taisa's temporary treatments (x2) were so effective that by the time (months later) we got to see surgery team in Crewe, my son was told he did not need nail surgery. WOW. What impressed even more was that out of the blue she texted me to enquire how was my son and if he has had nail surgery. This is caring for her patients and very professional. 100% recommended. The clinic is spotless and modern. However, it's on first floor so may not suit everyone due to accessability but I think Taisa does home visits. You may want to check with the clinic. We are clearly impressed and have changed our family podiatrist to Taisa Clinic. Well done Taisa for your expert care and attention Big thank you :)”
