“We were walking by this place and were drawn in by the live music. Stevie was playing all kinds of good energetic songs. We popped in for a beer and stayed for a few more. Staff was efficiently serving drinks even though they were pretty busy. Met some friendly people. Had a great time!”
“Tucked away down a random street, it didn’t even look open! But it was! And I enjoyed 1/2 pint of Edinburgh’s finest draft beer…Pentland IPA. Very quaint, cozy spot. Anthony Bourdain put it on the map for me, and it didn’t disappoint. RECOMMEND!”
“Great venue, friendly staff. Brilliant Scottish dance teacher with amazing atmosphere. Highly recommend”
“This spot was lots of fun! They have a great atmosphere and great drinks! The small outdoor section is unique and brings that old town vibe into the establishment. Definitely going back!”
“Mrs. A & I stumbled upon this AMAZING property while looking for a place to eat on our last night in Edinburgh. It reminded us so much of our go to Italian restaurant here, across the pond. The place was PACKED with locals, which to us is always a very good sign. We believe it to be a family run restaurant & they treat you like family !! A MUST (& it is NOT often that I give the FULL FIVE !!) Grazie - SPA007”
“Fabulous spot! Had a really memorable and special time dining in style. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely, boozy lunch—beautiful interiors, a laid-back vibe, and ideal for sharing a few plates over a good bottle. The food and drink were top quality, packed with flavour. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax and indulge in a stylish setting. Understandably considered Edinburgh‘s best hotel!”
“Milly, really appreciate and enjoyed your service!!! Excellent choices of whiskey and great choices of veggie burgers. Thank you all for an amazing experience!! Milly, it was great seeing how you served everyone with smile. Very quality food specially vegetarian burger. Thank you team. Definitely a place for everyone to try!!”
“I had the most amazing potato and leek salad, along with whiskey cured salmon and a sticky toffee pudding. The staff was great, friendly and accommodating. I look forward to enjoying Sunday roast there this weekend.”
“Didn't have food so can't comment. Great bar, great atmosphere a bit off the tourist trail so quieter. Well worth a visit.”
“The Dog House has such a unique and cozy atmosphere! It’s a great place to relax, with friendly staff and a welcoming vibe. The fact that it's dog-friendly makes it even better—plenty of pups around to brighten your day! The decor is quirky, the drinks are great, and they play old music, which is a huge plus. It really adds to the charm of the place. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Edinburgh”
“Great local pub with friendly stuff and great drinks. Got to know the owner: cool guy who played Born Slippy for me, the classic Trainspotting song from Underworld which story played in Leith. Really enjoyed our stay.”
“Got served by Phoebe, shes lovely! All staff are super friendly and pub is lovely”
“I've only been to the bar and have been calling it The Percy when recommending it to people. But it's also called The Persevere Bar and there's a bar and a restaurant - quite confusing. However, when you get past the branding confusion, the place offers a rich menu with something for every taste. Haven't yet tried some of the Polish dishes but the classics - beef steak or a burger - are amazing and come at a very reasonable price. Service is consistently great and there's a quiet and nice atmosphere despite the sport screens. Dogs are also allowed which makes it extra welcoming.”
“This pub hidden on the corner of big street is a treasure ! The staff are amazing and very cool. Lots of beer to chose from and for the amazing price ! You have to go there. Forget about all this pricey pubs in old town. This is were you want to enjoy your time. Toilets are clean. Nice people coming here. You can play pool. They dont serve food but as the barman told me, you can try nice and not expensive food from near shops. This pub has a feel and music is great. Jewel in the heart of edinbourgh !”
“We enjoyed our dinner and our server Finley was delightful and with great suggestions. I ordered the haggis bon bons, black and blue burger and an Irn Bru. All was delicious. Hubby went traditional with a 9A burger and a soda. he enjoyed it immensely. The French fries were excellent. We finished our meal with a coffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. Yummy.”
“Charming compact, but cosy little pub tucked away in a corner of Waverley Steps. Interesting selection of ales, and a fascinating collection of malt whiskies. Small kitchen serving a limited selection of food including tasty haggis, neaps, snd tatties. A stone's throw away from Edinburgh Waverley Station, so very handy for stopping off at between trains.”
“The service is good. The food portion is HUGE. Drinks are a bit pricey but understandable. Just did not really like their lights, very strong and warm.”
“This might be my favourite boozer in Edinburgh…. Local bar vibe during the day, busy in the evening with a mixed crowd enjoying either the cool tunes they play in the bar area, or watching a movie in their “cinema” room. Good times.”
“Another excellent Green King pub. Interesting interior and some outdoor seating. Friendly staff. We enjoyed talking to the staff member who had been to Toronto. It’s always fun to share stories. We had the fish sandwich with fries and both were tasty.”
“An excellent Pub with plenty of local atmosphere.”
“Amazing shop. Staff are so helpful. I was nervous about changing my dogs onto raw food. They explained everything to me and my dogs LOVE it. The shop is clean and well laid out, with a friendly welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend 100%.”
“Atmosphere is very chilled with wood tables and chairs and stone walls. It is a lot bigger thank it looks from outside. I'd also say once you are past the threshold it's quite inviting, not sure the outside gives that feel. The range of ale/beer is good. The bar staff are very friendly and helpful. I'm not keen on the traditional tasting beers/lagers and the staff suggested the raspberry wheat beer which was delicious and very drinkable. I'd give yourself a good 30 -45 minutes to enjoy one. We were just over £12 for two drinks.”
“When visiting the John Knox Home Museum, the woman helping us suggested this place. It's a rainy Wednesday early evening and although it was busy in this small restaurant, we were seated within 10 minutes without a reservation. We were intrigued by the story, but impressed with the food for its creativity, freshness, and robust flavors. We started with the Pulled Beef Rib Croquettes and Aspargus & Feta Salad with peas & mint. Both starters were fantastic and bursting with flavor. For dinner we chose a Pulled Mushroom Chilli with black beans, parsley Bismanti Rice, and guacamole and a small salad. Also we shared Salmon Fishcakes & Vintage Cheddar with a side salad with lots of delicious veggies and three times cooked fries. For desert we shared a Blackberry Elderberry Eton Mess. It was not too sweet, but full of flavor with meringue slivers for a crunch.”
“The Piper Fish Supper (fish and chips) were excellent. Crispy flakey haddock and the chips were soft on the inside and crunch on the outside. The Steak Pie was savory and flaky. Mash was traditional and very good as well. The gravy finished the dish well. Portions were very filling. Service was great. Atmosphere was great. I’d come back in a heartbeat.”
“Great Burger I had their signature fox burger. Guy working there said it's the least ordered on the menu but I can't understand why because it was amazing. Highly recommend! Plenty of good pints on draught too”
“Visited in early October. Solo visit to Edinburgh. Walked by looked nice decided to go inside. So glad I did. Nice vibe, staff very kind welcoming and patient. Food was amazing. Had the Veggie Haggis. So good came.back for dinner the same day. The Cullen Skink was the best. Would highly recommend this place for sure.”
“We hadn't booked for dinner, and they said it would be an hour or so, so we sat downstairs at the bar enjoying a few pints while waiting. At the restaurant I had rhe haggis neeps and tatties, which is always a favourite of mine. And here it was amazing. Paired with a few dark good 80 shillings ale. One of the few 80/- Ive found Ive found in rhe city. Also had a whisky. But they were 25cl and felt pricey Will definitely be back!”
“What a great pub, I think our favourite from our recent visit to the city. Really good craft ales on tap, friendly service, great food, and it doesn't feel like an artificial tourist trap. A good place to hunker down with a book, or come and hang out with your friends.”
“Amazing vegan burgers, the best we had in Edinburgh – simple as that. Really cute ambiance as well.”
“We only had time for one drink but will definitely be back for more and food! Lovely decor with lots of cool touches. Very comfy ambient vibes. We had prosecco and beer although wishing I had time for a cocktail as list looks amazing. The location is a bit special too, near enough the main areas but tucked away in a cute street.”
