“Our group had a lunch time meal after a walk. We received a warm welcome and the food was hot and quickly served. The loaded fries were particularly good. The pub was decorated ready for Halloween and it looks like they will be having fun.”

“We visited here on the off chance for a coffee and loo break. Lovely friendly landlord who explained he had only taken over 6 days before. No coffee but we had a coke and lemonade. The landlord said he was considering getting a coffee machine. They won't do food but it would be a good place to meet up. A bit of a work in progress but the bar and the room at the side are lovely. Wish it was my local.”

“Gorgeous Sunday roast beef lunch today. The restaurant was very quiet today so I’m pleased we went, these lovely country pubs need our support. We have eaten here several times and the food is consistently excellent and reasonably priced. So get along to Mowsley and treat yourself at The Staff of Life ♥️♥️♥️”

“We had a wonderful afternoon, from the beautifully prepared buffet to the excellent service provided by Sam and the rest of his team. We were so well looked after throughout our time spent there, and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone who joined us had nothing but very positive comments. Huge thanks also to Tyler and Kate who were warm and welcoming from our very first meeting. We have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending Axe & Square.”

“Went out for my birthday meal yesterday. New to area and had been past a couple of times so fancied giving it a try. Food was lovely, especially the chips! Service was also very good, and meal was very reasonably priced. Pub was cozy, clean and welcoming. Will definitely be back x”

“The people of Anstey hide a secret. This little gem. A great old fashioned pub feel awaits after you’ve seen the old fashioned exterior. Inside it’s clean and fresh and very well presented. We stumbled across this today when we were out and about. We had a Sunday dinner. Priced at around £13 and pence we all had the pork and we were not disappointed. An off piste selection of veg accompanied a very very tasty meal at a very good price. Most pubs stick with carrots peas and broccoli etc. not here. We had leaks parsnips roasted along with some carrots. A home made yorkie. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. I was shocked that there were not more people eating. But we were early. We were so impressed we asked after Xmas day. (It’s been booked up for ages) and I’m not surprised. I can’t wait to take my wife here. Going to get a cab next time. They had some nice ales that looked very inviting. Don’t let the people of Anstey have this to themselves. Support these great pubs. The pic is pre gravy. You can have as much gravy as you like. Nothing was too much trouble. They do dessert too. I’ll share that experience next time.”

“A real treat. This place is a bit pricy but for a special treat it’s worth a visit. It’s clear that all meals are cooked from scratch which whilst this makes the wait a little longer also makes the meals delicious. The mixed fish platter was amazing, ham and eggs lovely although too much ham even for a big eater. The kids burger and chips is almost identical to the adult version but at half the price - order the kids one. Expect greatness but expect to pay for it.”

“Great local pub in a lovely spot opposite the park and off the quiet road up to the Burrows (excellent spot for a pint after walking the dog). Good choice of beers/other drinks. Super terrace/garden which is a suntrap. Staff are very friendly/welcoming.”

“An excellent pub which has such charm. We often come on an evening to have one drink, and end up staying for multiple because it’s such a nice atmosphere. The log fire in winter is just gorgeous. Especially love the Thursday pub quiz and the new owners are fantastic, such a welcoming environment!”

“The most welcoming village pub you could ever come across. A fantastic place to socialise. Warm, atmospheric and just delightful. The landlords Shaun & Nigel are so sociable and make everyone feel so welcome. A great range of beers, wines, spirits. There is a selection of gins available from a local supplier called Driftwood which are superb. The pub also has regular entertainment and social events including weekly coffee mornings with a good selection of cakes on offer. If you haven't visited yet, get yourselves along, you won't be disappointed”

“If you're looking for a cosy, welcoming spot to unwind, look no further than the Queens Head. This small, charming local pub has quickly become one of my favourites. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted like an old friend by the friendly staff and the regulars who make the place feel like home. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, with just the right amount of energy, but not so loud that you can't enjoy a good conversation. The decoration is simple and unpretentious, which adds to its simple charm. The drinks selection is fantastic, with a great variety of ales, beers, and some lovely cocktails. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. The prices are also incredibly fair for such quality. What really makes The Queens stand out, though, is the people. The staff are incredibly friendly and always up for a chat, especially Abbie, Becks and Les, making you feel right at home from your first visit. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a quiet pint alone or laugh the night away with friends. They even host little events like quiz nights and darts, which adds to the community vibe. If you want to experience the best of what a small, friendly local pub has to offer, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!”

“Visited the Lime Tree today to celebrate Auntie Edna's 92nd Birthday. We had such a lovely time, staff were warm, friendly and helpful. The best bit was at the end when our waitress presented her with a complimentary dessert with Happy Birthday piped on the plate and gave her a birthday card. “Great pub. Had a party in their private function room. There was a lot of space and a private bar in the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a good evening and pricing was also very good as well. There was some parking at the pub itself but you can park on the street close by if there is no space in the parking lot.”

“I've been really struggling to find place to take my tornado toddler as he gets very overwhelmed and overstimulated with play groups etc. A friend told me about Average Joe's so I thought I'd give it a try (I thought for £3 if he goes in and wants to go out after five minutes it's ok) He loved it!! We were there for nearly two hours in the end as he didn't want to leave. This place is brilliant, bouncy castle, soft play area, play kitchen, toys, a climbing slide and lots of sparkly lights. It's not a great big center and it's only for 5yrs and under, but that is what has made it so perfect for my little boy. The staff are lovely and friendly. The cafe is really nice for a little treat to. We will definitely be coming here on a regular basis from now on”
