“We enjoyed a lovely overnight stay in this traditional pub with guestrooms above. The pub itself is large with plenty of informal bar dining areas as well as a more formal table service section. We ordered a pizza to share and although it wasn't outstanding, it was very tasty and the right price point. The breakfast the next morning was also good. The sausage was really tasty and good quality. We stayed in room 1 which was a very small double with an ensuite. Decent shower. I knocked a star off the room as I discovered the room didn't have a hairdryer as advertised and I only discovered this after I had got out of the shower. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and I'm sure they would have got one for me if I had noticed earlier but I didn't want to have to get dressed and go downstairs wet. We would definitely stay again.”
“Finding ourselves in the area on a Bank Holiday earlier than expected we were very pleased to find a nice welcome, a clean and tidy cafe with good prices and quick service. Would recommend and return.”
“My wife took some family here for dinner on Friday. The service was excellent - all the team could not have been more helpful and attentive. The quality of the food was excellent, the portions very generous and tasty and, importantly, served piping hot. Definitely cooked to order. A couple of things missing from the menu - probably because of a local food market taking place - but substitutes were available. All in all, ten of ten. Just a shame we are in Kent or we'd be regulars!”
“Seb is a credit to the company, always welcoming and friendly (even first thing in the morning) The food is good quality and worth the bit extra money.”
“As a regular at Neighbourhood for lunch when in Chester , we booked private room for our son and daughter in laws wedding celebration evening. The small annex room was perfect for a small gathering. Service excellent and the small plates menu we had chosen were all freshly prepared to a high standard. Highly recommended.”
“Lovely find while walking along the Roman wall. Stopped off for breakfast which was delicious. Got the window table with lovely views of the tree-lined street in the spring sunshine. Will stop off here again when next in Chester.”
“The hotel was very nice, reception were friendly and informative. The bar area was a nice space, cocktails were really good as were the fresh coffees, the staff were friendly whilst professional at all times. Breakfast was very good too, constantly topped up with fresh food, decent variety of food on offer. The whole team throughout the hotel work extremely efficiently. You can often judge a place by their reaction when things go wrong and there was a very difficult intoxicated man in the bar area on Friday evening. The staff worked swiftly, professionally & effectively in removing him without disruption to other guests.”
“We didn't stay over but the food was top class. I had chicken stuffed with haggis on top of mash and carrot and turnip, it was so good. The wife had a brisket sandwich which came with salad and chips, she was very impressed. That and a pint cost less than fifty quid.”
“Great food, great staff, milkshakes were delicious. Burgers thick and juicy 10/10”
“Booked a table here for lunch and asked for a quiet table for our wedding anniversary. Great welcome from the staff, and treated to a prosecco each for our anniversary. We had drinks outside while choosing our meal and then inside for lunch. I ordered scampi while husband had gammon steak. I'm always wary of ordering scampi (as always seems to be out a bag) but this was lovely and practically fell apart (in a good way). Gammon steak was cooked beautifully not tough or chewy. Sides were peas which tasted fresh/earthy and chunky chips which were huge. Overall food was lovely, drinks were good and reasonably priced £4.50: for bitter and £9 for aperol spritz. We will definitely be back here and can recommend it.”
“Always a great welcome and a warm tasty meal. Plenty of beer choices.”
“Friendly local pub. Dog friendly.”
“lovely food, service was very nice and prompt, tables where clean and plates cleared quickly. Some dishes weren’t available but that didn’t impact the experience at all, still 50/60 still available, food stations were also kept clean soo overall very nice experience. There was a lot of veggie and vegan options as well with no cross contamination of tongs! Pictured below is veggie plates x”
“Came here for a family meal for my boyfriend’s birthday, amazing atmosphere and great food with generous portions. We were served by Abbie and another blonde waitress who were great and knew the menu. Overall a great experience, will come back again and will recommend.”

“It's About Time!!!! We are local and have been coming here for years.. always tried the food but never been overly impressed so it's always just been a drink but this is the second time now in a month and the food was incredible!! Service was great and food piping hot fresh and home cooked! There's a new owner and was kind enough to come over and introduce himself. The pub had such a great atmosphere and had an amazing night! My wife loved the fish and I loved the ribs they were huge! Thanks so much and will 100% be back again very soon!”

“Enjoy our meal. Staff were fabulous, Very helpful and patient with my rubbish knowledge of wine. Beautiful steak. And super pudding with suprise sparkler. Really reasonable cost.”
“I dined here on the 21/8 and I thought it was great! The food was extremely timely and to an excellent level. The menu is easy to read and covers most bases bases for anyone walking through the door. I had the burnt end brisket balls to start which were great, well cooked and hardly any gristle which brisket is well known for, then I chose the funky chicken burger which I thoroughly enjoyed until I reached the food wall :) but it was the service that stood out for me, really efficient but polite and attentive. I would certainly eat here again. See photos.”
“Cool . Great place . Nice service. Very helpful. Tasty food . Xxthis Sunday. Lunch was fantastic. . Thanks Lisa.”
“Really enjoyed our Christmas lunch at The Royal Oak today. Staff couldn't have been more pleasant and attentive to our needs plus special fusses for our son and daughter in law to bes dogs and turkey treats from the kitchen for them too. We humans were treated to the most delicious food, we all savoured our starters, mains and desserts. Nothing was too much trouble. Our compliments to the chef and all the staff who worked really hard today so we could enjoy a fabulous, relaxing Christmas day.”
“A great stop in on our walking tour of Chester. Very friendly and helpful staff. Was unable to stop for food , but we certainly will fry the extensive pub menu. Restrooms were clean and tidy with all amenities. Well done team.”
“Been coming here for many years before it was a Green King pub. First visit under the Green King ownership and it didn't disappoint, quite the opposite. I need to mention the chap with the beard behind the bar on the evening of Thursday 20th November, what a pleasure he was. Fantastic friendly service a breath of fresh air. Food and drink were fab too. Been to Green Kings all over the country and this was one of the best. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”
“Nice friendly pub that serves good quality food and the staff go out of their way to be helpful. Had a great meal and they kept the kitchen open a bit later so we could have a dessert. This will become a regular haunt when we are visiting our daughter in future.”
“Halloween experience, we visited from Glasgow which has it's own , but this one is fantastic, it's a very big area with masses of Halloween props and actors, great food and drink too, this is one you shouldn't miss, can't recommend it enough.”
