“Great afternoon out. You can start in the cafe and get some nice food with a fair amount of choice, it's a little expensive but it is good quality to go with it. The railway I good as you can get a return ticket so you can get off at the lakes and have a little walk around them and if you have small ones then there is a fenced off park area near the station to visit. The trains are good fun, and they have space for a buggy or two if you need to take it with you to the other end. The return journey is a bit more scenic and features the tunnel, which, if you have children who are sensitive to loud noises, may be unsettled when they go through it.”

“This is my absolute favorite spot for wild swimming — peaceful, refreshing, and surrounded by nature. There’s also private fishing available and scenic trails just a short walk from the station, making it easily accessible. Parking is available near the station too, which adds to the convenience. A hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts!”

“We visited this place at the beggining of October, when the Boardwalk wasn't in the best condition, but we did walk around the part with missing wooden panels. There is a sign to inform you about the condition and accessibility before you get on your way. But it was still stunning and we enjoyed it a lot. We definitely will come back in spring”

“Lovely park alongside the river. Memorial rose garden and plenty of seating. Children's play area looked good. Small kiosk serving hot and cold drinks, ice cream and snacks.”

“Lovely walk round the lakes. Stopped at the hides and it was very peaceful. Plenty of bird life to see.”

“Boscombe Gardens Boscombe Chine Gardens were developed originally from a ‘chine’ of heath and mire into a splendid Victorian garden, a central part of Boscombe. These gardens offer a lovely mix of scenery and activities with formal flower beds, large grassy areas for recreation, mini golf, basketball court and a water-themed playground. Squirrel Cafe and mini golf is owned and operated by The Parks Foundation. Having a cuppa here, or a game of crazy golf (or both!) supports your local parks and open spaces. We have recently opened our upstairs cafe, here you can purchase hot and cold drinks, freshly baked cakes and daily specials. The Chine is beautiful and walks down to Boscombe beach filled with wildlife andplay park.”

“Used the “River Launch” for another day on Hamble River. Fairthorne’s river launch gives you access to the most beautiful parts of Hamble river. If you turn left after launching you can go all the way to the waterfall (Sluice gate) at Botley Mill. It’s a lovely paddle with plenty of wildlife as you navigate the winding river up to Botley, passing under the road bridge with the bell you can ring at “The hidden tap” on the Flour mill wall and then opening up to the waterfall which lets the freshwater from the upper Hamble meet the salt water from the lower tidal river. Turn right and stay right and it’s another wonderful paddle all the way to “The Horse and Jockey” pub in Curbridge. Alternatively turn right after launching then take a left and the Hamble River will take you all the way to the Solent. Plenty of picnic spots in the way. Just got to remember it’s tidal ! Many people have been caught out by the lack of water coming back after a long paddle. Fairthornes river launch opening and closing times differ each day to match the tides. Those opening hours let you know how long you have on the water. There is a kiosk selling snacks and drinks but sadly there’s no toilets.”

“Love little campsite with a swimming lake and a cafe. Very quiet and central to the Southampton side of the Solent area.”

“Lucky to have beautiful weather; perfect short walk if you have young ones and a buggy! Parked in the Ealing car park which is free (toll Bridge is only £1) and then walked all the way round the mill pond and over Bartley water. Ended at the cafe - the ladies in here were so lovely! Food was simple but tasty and just what we needed (I have a 6yr old and a 21 month old). Then walked to Goatee beach and played there for a while. Lovely day out with the family”

“Fishlake Meadows Nature Reserve is a lovely place for walks and birdwatching. It can be muddy after much rain, but on the sunny day we went there, the footpaths were dry. We were a group of birders and saw dozens of different species.”

“What a lovely site. The owners are wonderfully pleasant and polite. Perfectly situated to visit so many wonderful locations. Plenty of footpaths allowing one to roam.”

“Beautiful lake with ducks and swans. You can easily get there there’s free parking available across the road and also Victoria county park is attached to Sophie’s pond. You can plan a small walk or a long day out feeding the ducks and swans walk by the sea( when the tide allows) and have a picnic at the park.”

“Nice patch of pebble beach to walk and relax. There are several benches along the street. Nearby, a walk way for walking your dog is also available. A short bus ride away from the Southampton city centre. I especially recommend it for people looking for a not so busy seaside spot. Amazing sunset scenery!”
