“Lovely welcoming pub on our visit to Whitchurch. Friendly ladies served us and even advised where to go the next day to watch The Lions Test! Good beer in a comfortable environment. Thank you! ☺️”
“Excellent food and ambience! We arrived late on Sunday evening, and the roast was already finished ..which says a lot about how popular it is. We tried the burgers, and they were really good. The staff were friendly, and the place had a cosy and lively atmosphere. It’s a great spot to have nearby while staying in the area as travellers.”
“We took the children to Alton Towers this half term and we wanted to stay in a nice place for the night. I am telling you it doesn’t disappoint ! The rooms, the food the staff is 5 stars! A gem of the area! Love love love”
“Gabriel was amazing very attentive... courteous.. help us choose some nice drinks. We will be back . Thank you”
“It’s about time I let you know our secret place to go, we’ve kept it to ourselves for a while as we love being able to last minute book, but that no longer seems fair… This local pub is an absolute find, the beer is great, the Sunday roast is exceptional and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. If you are looking for a place to go and have stumbled across this beautiful pub, look no further you have found your place.”
“Farima was our waitress this evening, She was friendly and helpful with regards to our nut allergy needs. No task to hard checking ingredients for us. Aswell as taking us a photo together with our food. We've been a few times here and food is always exceptional and so are the staff. Warm and welcoming as always thankyou for a lovely night!”
“Fabulous location a stones throw from the golf course and cricket ground. Really close to Newcastle and not a million miles from attractions like Waterworld or Alton Towers. The main draw though is the strawberry picking nearby. You cant escape the rural location when the 12 and 13 year old tractor boys walk around. The food though and the decor are first class. Whilst sitting waiting we watched 10 or 12 different meals come out and we could have ate every single one. A big recommendation from me.”
“From the greeting on arrival to the moment you leave this place is fabulous. The atmosphere is great, the staff friendly and attentive and the food and choice excellent. Highly recommend. 2 courses for 4 and drinks £135.”
“Vickie was an amazing server, super friendly and kind. Food was perfect and so was the atmosphere xox 11/10 10000% recommend and will be back”
“The White lion is a hidden gem, I only discovered it recently. Two real ales and all the other lagers you come to expect. It's very clean inside and out, a well kept pub. Food is served but I haven't tried it yet. Large beer garden to the side, and a covered over area with seating. Well worth a visit.”
“Lovely, cozy, traditional pub / restaurant, with lovely decor, great, friendly, service, and delicious food. Overall really enjoyable experience taking my elderly mother out (in her wheelchair ... which I was quite dreading, but didn't need to because the Fox & Hounds was 'wheelchair friendly' and (with the help of the lovely staff) the experience was totally stress-free!). So a really special time spent with my mother, who enjoyed her meal immensely! Thank you to all staff at The Fox & Hounds. Totally recommend this pub / restaurant to anyone. And hope to be back there sometime soon myself too!”

“A traditional pub, recently taken over by new landlady from another thriving town centre pub. Good selection of drinks, friendly staff, clean and welcoming. Open fires for winter. Easy access to the train station and other Macclesfield pubs, restaurants and bars.”
“Fab stopover in our VW in their car park. Highly recommend - our best stopover so far - access to toilets 24 hours and access to water tap. Need to book table in advance as this pub is definitely on the up. Packed out on a Thursday evening and hugely popular with locals supporting the new owners. Very hardworking friendly staff, good food including vegan option - the steak and ale pie was gorgeous and good value at £15. Lovely garden - lots of seating some under cover, kids and dog-friendly (dog treats available) and lovely location.”
“Fabulous meal, the best food I've tasted for a long time. Could not fault anything! So much choice, so in the end went for the shallots with ham, the Roast lamb as a main, which just fell off the bone, so tender. And if you fancy a pudding but don't want to be overfaced, go for the small dessert and hot drink. Would definitely go again and recommend.”
“Boothroyd agrees that this a good place for an old King to drink. Surprisingly large pub with a rear patio. Boothroyd decided on a pint of draught Bass. Very good traditional ale. Sat in the strand twixt bar and garden, close to the Throne Room. Enjoyed the music.”
“Recently reopened and what a pleasure to visit. We have walked, cycled and driven to this pub. Situated on the main road from Biddulph to Congleton, and a stones throw from the Biddulph valley way, it’s a perfect place for a pit stop. Warm, welcoming and relaxed, serving basic pub grub, but done just right and at a reasonable price! Staff are friendly and welcoming and after a couple of visits, remember you, which adds to the experience. Good selection of beers and wines, with Timothy Taylor being a very nice pint.”
“Delightful Pet Friendly pub with great views of the Cheshire plains Warm friendly atmosphere Dog treats and dog menu available at the bar. And the food is excellent The staff are really nice and welcoming Will definitely be returning”
“Been here quite a few times with friends. It's a lovely friendly, cosy pub with excellent service. The food is lovely well cooked and presented nice. The bar staff are really friendly. They also do coffee and cake which the cakes look delicious. They also have bingo on Wednesday nights. They have a great crowd of people in. Really nice place and would definitely recommend going. Just one thing to remember it's cards only.”
“We arrived mid afternoon in our Motorhome with plans to eat in the pub and stay in the car park overnight. The staff were very accommodating and said it was no problem for us to do this. We had a light lunch and drinks in the afternoon then returned in the evening for dinner at a table I had booked a few days prior to our visit. The food was fantastic and the service was first class. Will definitely return if in the area again”
“Me and my mum came for the festive meal last night, it was amazing! Food was presented great, tasted amazing and we left absolutely stuffed. We loved every course we had. Thank you for a great night. The staff are so friendly aswell very welcoming.”
“Lovely place, with very kind and helpful staff and delicious food. Family friendly with high chairs and colouring sheets, board games, etc. I recommend to reserve if you go on a Saturday night. We will definitely be back.”
“Called in and ordered 4 takeaway Sunday Lunches. The pub was busy, but the staff were very friendly and accommodating.Had a drink whilst they were being prepared. They were well packaged, stayed warm in transit and tasted delicious.”
“We came across this pub after a day an Alton Towers, when we arrived we was greeted with lovely staff and atmosphere. Ordered some drinks and decided to stay for food. Ordered steak which was cooked to perfection. And a pork schnitzel which was full of flavour. Everything came out piping hot. Ordered 2 sausages for my daughter who doesn’t like peas and chips and they reduced the price for this reason. Lovely wine too. Couldn’t recommend this place anymore. Was our first visit and definitely won’t be our last!”
“Had a party for a retirement celebration. There were 14 of us and we complicated things with last minute changes to numbers due to sickness. Staff couldn’t do enough and everything went very well and smoothly. They re-set the table and made space for 2 prams for our newborn babies. Nathan was our allocated waiter and took the time to go over the changes to the pre orders, last minute changes and allergies to ensure they were all correct. Great food and service. Lovely atmosphere too. A wonderful afternoon.”
“Absolutely world-class carvery! We live in the North-West, and my in-laws live in the East Midlands, so I was looking for somewhere in-between we could meet up. Fortune smiled on us that day as I picked the New Broom at random, and we've been going back a couple of times a year for the last 5 years. Simply, the best Carvery I have ever had!”
“Beautiful Traditional Pub under new management. Lovely food great athmosphere Defo worth a visit.Dog Friendly added bonus.”
“Beautiful clean pub. Excellent service from the very friendly land lady. Everywhere was clean and well looked after.”
“Not been here in years & went for an anniversary meal after a disappointing holiday away. Main menu a little expensive but 2 for £20 offer makes it affordable. Food was outstanding. Hot, fresh & plenty of it - they do not cut portion size for offers like some other places! Service excellent, attentive but not overbearing & no pressure to leave once meal complete. Would highly recommend & my only complaint is about the booking system, which requires card details to book-no problem with this alone but details are held by third party for 24 months which is totally unnecessary & puts our data at risk so would not book in advance & would need to take our chances on the day, as we did today. Will definitely return though, the food is fantastic.”
“The food was good and plentiful, the staff helpful even though they were busy. Had a bit of a wait due to the amount of people there, but I didn't mind as I wasn't in a rush. The only reason gave 3 *for atmosphere was the large party and kids, it was a little noisy but they left and the volume went down. We then sat outside in the sun to finish our drinks with a cracking view. But a great place to have food and have some meal deals.”
