“Microbrewary....Just home brewed, quality ales, plus others...Live bands on..( see FB for more info), In house music, via a selection of LPS...with a play list on the wall. Atmosphere very chilled and relaxing, I'd recommend trying the wild mushroom, and garlic chips, !”

“Recently found this gem. I can’t believe I didn’t know about it until I went on my nieces Facebook as I don’t have FB. The malteser cheesecake and shortbread are amazing. I’ve been looking for cafes with homemade cakes and these truly are homemade, which is such a rarity! The staff also make the latte to preference such as decaf/ oat milk etc the indoor area is clean with tasteful decor. The outside seating is really lovely as it’s based in a pretty and peaceful location. There is a free car park that can be used. Owner is lovely and friendly. We felt very welcome. I was a bit worried as I’ve been to other places which are a bit hostile towards Muslims/ Asians but there was no need to be worried here. I haven’t tried the food yet but when I do I will edit my review . I’d love to see more cheesecake flavours as Gil is a great baker . I am a baker too and I have very high standards so that’s saying something . Im definitely not easily pleased when it comes to cakes. Overall really lovely cafe . I went to another cafe before I discovered Gils for homemade cakes and that was such a major disappointment in quality and taste and did not compare to Gils. Prices are really good for the cake considering it’s homemade and generous portions . Only wish I could visit more often but due to health problems I can’t but when I do it’s a lovely experience. He confidently said, “if you like coffee, ONE1 is the best in Birmingham.” If you would have said that 10 years ago, it would be easy to believe. Given the where the coffee scene in Birmingham is now, there are too many good Independents to choose. For my personal taste, Espresso Quarter, located in the Jewellery Quarter, has the best tasting oat flat white in Birmingham. Still, if you want fabulous espresso (house blend or single origin) or filter, ONE1 is a great choice. The barista has high accolades, having worked at Birmingham’s best independents including Quarter Horse. He is passionate about well crafted coffee. What’s cool. Not only is the coffee great tasting, the latte art and coffee wares are of the highest order.”

“We had a lovely prosecco afternoon tea Tuesday for my birthday which my friend brought me. The ladies were very friendly, we couldn't eat all our lovely cakes so brought them back in a box. “We came here for an anniversary dinner and we had a lovely time, thank you! The food is superb and staff were brilliant. The veggie menu was great and my partner loved his pork main. If I could make one suggestion, the wine list seems to be mostly 'easy to drink' wines, it could do with some more advanced, adventurous options. Especially reds, I wish there was a proper smoky red to go with the beef and pork. It's a beautiful place, so jealous of the walled vegetable garden, ! Would come back for sure”
