“Frequently enjoy coffee and a snack in the friendliest cafe in Lydney. There is always a warm welcome from Trudie and staff. “So I have been past so many times thinking s as about popping in and I’m so glad I did, the pizzas were exactly what we wanted, really nicely presented and soft drinks so can’t really comment on the full range but looks good, the man who served us was very kind allowing the dogs to sit with us and the price was very good so it’s a big thumbs up. I will be back!”

“Posting reviews is not a habit for me but, just occasionally, it seems necessary. I have just seen a negative comment about Dexter's here, which deserves to be highlighted because it is really so wrong. Dexter's is a fine coffee shop, with a dedicated owner, loyal staff, and many regular and satisfied customers like me. The negative comment is really destructive. The writer, shining her London coffee credentials in truly pompous fashion, weighs in on the owner, the quality of the coffee, the uniqueness of her terrible experience compared to the normal welcome she experiences elsewhere, and ends by telling us all to avoid at all costs. So, first to correct the narrative. Dexter's, in five years of trading in this part of Bath, has brought a community to life. It is a meeting point and a place for conversation, a place where good things in life are celebrated, and not so good things are comforted. The coffee is sourced from a reputable local roastery, Extract and the owner knows precisely what her clientele need, which is really good coffee and light snacks, delivered consistently in a great atmosphere. But she is balancing a complex community; the shop is welcoming to owners and dogs, walkers and cyclists, people working and meeting. To keep all of us happy, and her business running, she has to be a manager and a diplomat. She does it brilliantly. Sometimes, people do push things a bit. Cyclists, like me, might lay a bike across the window; or someone may bring their lunch from somewhere else and spread it out for an hour whilst working and drinking one coffee. All without asking. Luckily such things are rare, and nearly always no offence was ever intended, but it is necessary to point out a problem, put it right and carry on. But of course there is always a reviewer out there who, if crossed, feels the power to write a review which slams not one thing, but everything about an establishment. And in doing so, the reviewer shows herself to be a righteously indignant huffer and puffer. Dexter's is great, so is the coffee and the company. Do not avoid. Unless that is, you are one of those negative reviewers who delights in trying to destroy small and valuable businesses. By all means please, you, stay away. See you at Dexter's everyone else!!”

“I wasn't expecting such a good flat white in Yate. Thanks to Ara for making it, she was fab. Seems like a popular spot with a wide spectrum of people: solo laptop workers, book readers, kids and parents, retirees, and other chatting pairs. A slightly odd building, trying to do interesting and quirky but in a narrow, new-build retail park shed. A good range of different seating options and loads of space on the terrace outside. Great coffee is what I came for and what I got, and the rest looks good too!”

“The sandwiches are fabulous! We stopped for a nosh on Friday, my husband grabbed a mortadella and mozzarella sandwich along with cinnamon bun. The cinnamon bun was lovely but the sandwich was the best I've had since a trip to Italy two years ago. I like it so much, I had to have a second one before our weekend was over!”

“From the smell as you go in you can tell that the coffee is going to be good. I had a really nice latte that was more on the strong end with woody and slight caramel notes. For £3.75 it feels pretty steep and I wanted to hate it but actually do rate the coffee. Service was friendly. The decor is simple but nice with plenty of light. I did also like that they had a coffee flavour wheel on the wall that I could look at while trying my coffee too.”

“The manager and his team are always extremely pleasant to interact with. In the past I spent a significant amount of time working and studying from this cafe. It's well geared for hosting people such as myself and I highly recommend heading there if you want somewhere to enjoy great coffee while you work/study. You have to try the caramel cake too! You won't be disappointed.”

“Absolutely fantastic little café. It is quite small and looks to be very popular, there was a queue out the door when we left. The food is excellent in both quality and value for money. The kids bug boxes are £5.50 and my 3 year old had loads to keep him going and really enjoyed all the items. The log burner gives the place a lovely atmosphere, although it's worth noting there's not a lot of room between tables.”

“Very confused as this was originally a coffee house but when we found out they do Japanese food in the evening, we thought we'd give it a go! Food was delicious...we ordered takoyaki, battered crab claws and squid, eel with rice, a beef stir fry with rice and selection of mochi ice cream. All of it was delicious and had a reasonable price. Staff was friendly and accommodating too :)”
