“This was my 1st time in this coffee house as the one I normally use was shut due to a referb. I was delighted that the coffee was superb and well priced. This could be my new regular stop off. It has a nice interior layout as well, all the things that make your coffee stop worth while.”
“Delicious pancakes & Crepes, packed & well priced! Plenty of choice as with the coffee! Absouletly love this place with the awesome bonus of all of Whitmore bay (Barry Island beach) in front of you :) Awesome cream tea's too & much more! Cannot recommend enough!”
“Lovely staff !! Yummy croissants Loved the atmosphere and especially the wall painting Had the meal + hot drink just @£5”
“Stopped in the green house for a drink on a rainy day. Super dog friendly and a great place. The hot chocolate was one of the best I've had in a long time (was offered cream and marshmallows too, but not for me). Doggy treats available and the toilets were spotless and smelt a lovely lemon (nice toilets is always a plus for me). Would definitely recommend.”
“Really nice beach side coffee shop. Went in for a drink to take for our travel home. I got a kinder latte and my friend got a chai latte (?) With oat milk. The gent that served us was amazing and even asked if the alternate milk choice was a preference or an intolerance. When told it was an intolerance he told us it would be done in a seperate jug and cleaned twice. Very good with allergens!”
“My husband and I enjoyed the sunny morning of the Mother’s Day with a lovely creamy ice oat decaf latte and delicious sourdough chicken toasted sandwich. We bought other goodies too and admired the new opened Coffee Lab here in Llanishen. Clean and effective in serving modern and good quality coffee and products, the success recipe of all times! Congratulations and many more to come! We experienced firs unisex toilets ( a bit unfit with the liquid soap dripping down on the sink waisted but not delivered when put hand underneath and urine on the floor I can imagine why) Than needs revision! But hey- welcome in the village!”
“Great coffee at a nice location. Very nice and comfortable with very friendly service. For my tastes the best coffee in Cardiff. Nice cakes and toasted sandwiches too all for a very good price. Highly recommend”
“One of the best coffee places ever and this is not an exaggeration. Great coffee, great chat and great atmosphere - what more do you want! Get yourself down there - I can't get enough, I'm literally there every week!”
“Coaltrain coffee shop is an absolute asset to the community. An absolutely lovely cafe in its own right if you decided to pick it up and plonked somewhere else, but being at the train station makes catching the train from Barry one of the best station experiences I’ve have had out of all the stations ive been too in the UK. A genuinely lovely service, great quality and with a calm inviting atmosphere, coaltown train is worth getting to the station early. Also vegan option available which is always a plus!”
“Lovely little coffe shop that's hidden away, nice quiet atmosphere, great place for a meetup or a quiet cuppa!”
“Meryl was a wonderful host! She has sent the instructions well in advance and gave me a call on the day. Room was small, but tidy and practical enough. Good continental breakfast too!”
“Had a cozy atmosphere and the coffee was really good quality and enjoyable. There is a nice selection of cakes which are well made and look nice - I’d recommend trying their Bakewell if you are in the area.”
“Not usually in the area but was meeting a friend and popped in for a coffee and catch up. Warm welcome and we were strongly recommended the home made cheesecakes. I opted for the biscoff one, blinking lovely it was as was my iced latte.”
“We had lunch here today. Chicken and mayo baguette with salad, and ham and cheese baguette with salad, plus 2 hot chocolates with cream and marshmallows. Really nice food, good portions and excellent value for money. It's a cash only cafe so I had to dash to a local cashpoint.”
“Excellent coffee and delicious cake (chocolate banana bread and jammie dodger blondie) served up by friendly folks in a welcoming location. Highly recommended for a short stop to rest up before browsing the arcade!”
“Since costa on albany road closed I have been on the odd occasion popping into Coffee#1 across the road and Its such a cozy and welcoming coffee shop, Theres a lovely girl with brown hair and glasses and a tallish man with brown hair too (Didn’t get to catch her name) I spoke to both were so helpful and wonderful and the girl who took my order was cheerful and always had a smile on her face, She was really helpful and told be about their seasonal beans (although i did opt for the regular one) She even brought the drink over to me which was an amazing tasting coffee! and has a little chat before going back to work. If anyone is in the area I really do recommend coming here as the staff are really friendly and helpful and the environment is overall really welcoming!”
“Excellent experience for our start to the day, we enjoyed the porridge and granola a lovely coffee and atmosphere”
“Amazing community cafe. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and accommodating and the food is amazing. The chai tea and cakes are not to be missed! Really nice location. Such a great asset for Grangetown.”
“Awesome couple of hours spent with Barista Ally doing the latte art course at the Barista school. Ally was great and put us at ease quickly and was very attentive and patient. Patience was definitely needed as it's a lot harder than it looks. Much respect to baristas everywhere!”
“I was in Cardiff for my convocation and visited this costa shop. Amazing super friendly staff. Always smiling and helpful. Great coffee and great atmosphere. One of the best costa experiences in UK without a doubt.”
“Other than having to sit under a regular umbrella wedged in the table outside my visit was immensely pleasant, brilliant oat milk latte's which can be difficult (as a vegan bartender I know the struggle) but also the tofu scramble was amazing, though I struggled to eat it all I was thoroughly impressed. I still have them 5 stars because personally I don't find things like the umbrella situation a problem, I honestly enjoy going out my comfort zone and it offered quite a bit of charm to my time here!”
“I have always loved Coffee #1, and believe it is the best chain around this area. I order a large caramel latté with extra caramel and an extra shot, and after 2 of those (I'm beginning number 2 as I write), I can't think straight anymore, my handwriting goes completely wonky, and I forget the way home. That's the sign of a potent brew. The taste is good, but I've had 99 doses of radiotherapy (yes, ninety-nine) on my throat area, so my taste buds are redolent of a bad night out in Mogadishu. The latté art is spot on, so I don't hold it against the (traditionally harassed) barista that he could only with great effort hold back a wince of distaste at my Philestinism when I said yes to his offer of a swirl of squirty caramel sauce on top of the accomplished rosette. I ran a coffee shop for a while, and I used to snarl at everyone even though my latté art was poop and I only knew how to make one type of drink, regardless of what was ordered. The atmosphere is lovely, and I'm here at 1pm on a Tuesday. It's gently buzzing and only disturbed by one SCREAMING baby, (too many ristretto, methinks). We look out onto the fairly dull Penarth main street; more stimulating to point your chair inwards - this cafe is surprisingly deep, with enough tables for me not to feel *too* guilty/awkward at taking up a potential 3 seater on my lonesome. (To be honest, with a stoma in your neck and an electric voice, you get away with pretty much anything anywhere anyway - never underestimate the power of sympathy/revulsion). The atmosphere is in fact so pleasant that although I only came in for a takeaway cup, I've ended up staying for 2 and a takeaway pecan/salted caramel brownie for my dear wife. Come to this cafe. I don't think you'll regret it”
“Lovely full English and very reasonably priced. Will be back again!”
“Spent a couple of hours doing some course work, away from distractions. Decent coffee reasonable prices nice atmosphere, friendly helpful Staff. Good table with handy plug socket to keep iPad powered! Good afternoon!”
“I've said many times that the existence of chocolate might be the only thing that could convince me of the existence of God. Certainly, nothing else could. Mrs, Potts is a divine experience. All you have to know is they serve frozen hot chocolate and the premier desserts include the Dream Cake and the Matilda Cake. They are a tad different--Matilda is moister and less dense than the Dream--and are worth the calories.”
“Food was lovely. I had the breaded chicken breast with fries, coleslaw, and egg. My mum had a full english breakfast. Didn't like the capers on top though I think it kinda ruined the meal but It's my own fault for forgetting to ask to remove them. Full english breakfast was lovely. They take blue light card which is great if you want a decent discount. It took a very long time for staff to take our order and bring the bill, it was busy though. I'd recommend if its not busy and if you have a blue light card as the price would be worth it for the discount. Suitable for people with food allergies and had no issues with that.”
“I've been eating at this place for over 35 years ( changed hands a couple of times in that time). It's convenient for me, as I travel to and from Newport regularly by bus. I've tried quite a few of the dinner options on the menu ( there is a varied choice), with the current owners and have enjoyed everything. The food is always served quickly and hot. My favourite is the home made chicken curry...absolutely delicious. Once I'd tried it, I've never ordered anything different.”
“Have been here several times over the past year and each time the staff are always really nice and the coffee is good. Really appreciated this morning the guy serving brought my coffee and cake over whilst I was sorting myself out with laptop etc at a table. This is my go to coffee shop in Newport.”
“Great service from Flick and Jacob, good food and coffee, recommended;)”
“Quick Service, Friendly Staff and great flat-whites.”
