“We were stranded at short notice and the Vale hotel took us in, gave us breakfast and looked after us for the entire day. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Sharon and Gerard took care of us like family. We are forever grateful. We will definitely be staying again.”

“Have just come home after a short break with my wife and children. Absolutely lovely hotel. Breakfast was brilliant, For breakfast you place your order the night before and it's cooked fresh for you once you come down for it, but this is for a few reasons the main perk of which is it arrives hot, and fresh unlike you get at the buffet style and added bonus to that is the fried eggs are not rubbery. The owners were a lovely friendly couple and come across as if they are running the hotel for the love of it and not just in it for the money. Nothing appeared to be to much for them, even having a laugh as I was apologising for my wife spilling coffee all over the floor and the only thing to hand to mop it up was one of their lovely clean white towels. They appear to also love the WSM part of the country and full of local knowledge as to where to go depending on what you want to do. Having visited Western Super Mare a number of times this hotel ranks as an 11 out of 10 compared to others we've stayed at in the area and 15 out of 10 against your travel lodge / premier Inn type places so much so we have already pre-booked the same few days for next year. Have just asked my sons about the stay and they said that they are excited to be going back to the same place next year. Now for them to come even remotely near saying something like that is a miracle. The only thing they could fault was the phone signal for 5g internet but this is totally out of the hotels control and they have rectified this the best they can with free wi-fi from within the hotel. As a message to the owners "Thank you once again for helping to make our stay in Weston even more enjoyable than it normally is, and we will see you next year"”

“We spent a weekend here and were thoroughly impressed. The hotel's design is chic and modern, yet the room was incredibly comfortable and quiet. The bed was like a cloud, and the rainfall shower was fantastic. The location is unbeatable, within walking distance of all the main attractions. The staff at the front desk were exceptionally helpful, providing great recommendations for local restaurants. A wonderful base for exploring the city.”

“A great place to stay. The campsite was quiet and clean, shower and toilet facilities looked like recent additions and were clean and well kept. The site is on a farm and close to many local attraction, a short drive from Cardiff city centre and Cardiff Bay. Was also around 30 minutes to visit nearby Barry. We would definitely use this site if we visit the area again and recommend it to friends x”

“Really lovely clean rooms with a 10/10 breakfast, welcoming kind staff and the perfect setting for children with the small park and fish pond. My only feedback would be the curtains. The room was lovely and bright, as the front wall and door are all windows, but this did mean that it didn't get fully dark until gone 10pm (if at all) and was very bright by 5am, granted this was exacerbated by having a toddler in tow, so might not bother others as much. We will be back for sure!”

“Four adults and a four year old. We've just returned from a fantastic weeks stay at Riverside. Yes, there were a couple of negatives, and no, we didn't raise them at the time as we managed to combat them, and they didn't distract from the really good time we had. The caravan we stayed in was a six birth. Whilst there were ample cutlery, crockery & and glassware, we felt that the pans provided were of poor quality and inadequate. There was only one shelf in the oven. We expected that there should be two. And lastly (and it's the same issue at virtually every other holiday let We've stayed ), the knives in the knife block were all blunt. (The wife's tongue is sharper). May have as well used a hatchet. Apart from those minor issues, the caravan was clean and tidy. The site was well laid out and well maintained. All the staff were helpful and friendly and went about their duties diligently. We only used the restaurant a couple of times. I'm not a fan of carveries myself. However, I have to admit that the one we had at Riverside was really enjoyable. We also sampled the "build your own pizza." Outstanding. It's probably the best pizzas we've had. Pleasantly surprised at the prices at the bar too. It's more than reasonable. Well stocked with a wide choice of drinks. Apparently, we visited during the last week of low season and were informed that most of the week it would be quiet and entertainment would mainly consist of bingo, quizzes and karaoke. The best would be done to involve any children (of which there were very few). Lee, did an excellent job keeping us entertained. The bingo and quizzes were made really entertaining, and the children always came away "winning" and ice cream despite not even playing. For the number of people that were there most evenings, the prizes were very good. To summarize a very clean site offering friendly value for money service and amenities.”

“Ideal location just staying off the M4. Yes you can hear the noisy traffic but its not disturbed our sleep - the heavy rain did more damage to that ( and some dogs barking!!) Amazing family bathroom - with shower, bath and toilet all in one room for young families only. Everything is clean tidy, level gravel pitch. Very friendly staff. We have enjoyed our stay here with out 3 young children. So much room to go off on our bikes, play park etc.”

“Acorn Campsite is an absolute stunner of a place to stay. They have static caravans, glamping options, and a campsite. We stayed in our bell tent at the back field, which was really clean. Showers and toilets were excellent, staff were friendly, the café is great, and there’s a decent selection of beers. Highly recommended.”

“I have eaten here with family three times recently and it has been outstanding on every occasion. Their steak is cooked to absolute perfection and the service is exemplary. They also have a lovely attitude towards younger diners. I will return as often as l can.”

“Came here before for the pub, but decided to stay when visiting Cardiff again. The staff were really lovely and helpful with checking us in. Our room was modern and spotless. In terms of convenience, it's very close to city centre and things like Cardiff Castle, National Museum, and Cardiff Bay. The pub downstairs is great as well especially if you love to watch sport. I think it's a great value for what you pay.”

“A big hotel with a welcoming lounge, large bedrooms, very impressed with room we stayed in. Comfy Queen size bed. Sofa. Clean bathroom and shower.very quiet too. A huge choice for Breakfast , continental or cooked.£12 taxi to train station.”

“It was a really lovely experience, calming atmosphere, loved the Myddfai toiletries, soft, crisp linens and towels. The breakfast was incredible, so much choice, I had fresh fruit salad: kiwi, tangerine, watermelon, grapes, apple, variety of berries and orange juice. Delicious heap of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and no rush at all to eat it! PS. Could do with bathroom floor tiles re- grouting and the shower head deep cleaned to get rid of black mould. Also bathroom shelf was wobbly!”

“We love this hotel. We got married here 13 years ago and come here once a year to celebrate. The rooms are great, the staff are friendly. The location and views are amazing. We stayed here last night and ate in the Vale Grill. Our host was Lewis and he was fantastic. Very attentive, and even though it was busy he still made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us throughout the meal. The food was great, I had the Orzo Risotto and my husband had the Hanger Steak. Would highly recommend to anyone planning a visit.”

“Superb restaurant experience. 1st time here but not the last it doesn’t matter that this wonderful place is situated in the middle of an housing estate nor does it matter that the main car park is small and awkward, all that matters is the quality of service and food which is excellent. The standard of cookery and quality of the Welsh meats is of the highest order, my son and I both agree that the Chateaubriand was the best and most flavoursome we have ever tasted anywhere. The ‘Firey’ Scallops were an explosion of flavours that will provoke debate. The desserts were a delight and beautifully presented. Our young server Bonnie-Rae was excellent, polite and courteous, her manner enabled us to really enjoy a more relaxed and informal evening, she fully explained all courses including allergies and the extensive GF options.”

Molly and Klaudia in the events team while helping plan were always there for us and couldn't of done anything more, making everything as stress free and easy as humanly possible, all while being so kind! On the day Mike and Amy made sure everything went to plan and were so wonderful to us and our guests, and Wayne the evening DJ was amazing too. We couldn't recommend a better more accommodating venue, and the rooms that we and some of the guests stayed in were perfect. Thank you so much to the whole team at the bear!”

“My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Coal Exchange on the 8th of August 2025, and we honestly can’t speak highly enough of the entire experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. A big thank you to Jamie on reception, who was incredibly friendly and polite – he made us feel instantly welcome and set the tone for a fantastic stay. Our room was stunning – beautifully decorated, spacious, and spotlessly clean. The highlight was definitely the spa bath in the room, which added a luxurious and relaxing touch to our evening. It was the perfect way to unwind. We also had the chance to dine at the hotel’s restaurant, and the food was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Special mention goes to restaurant managers Haley and Sam T, who were both outstanding – attentive, professional, and clearly passionate about delivering a great dining experience. All in all, The Coal Exchange exceeded our expectations in every way. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!”

“Spot on location. Hotel was spotless inside and out. Beautiful kept garden at the back of property. We stayed in room 8 sea veiw room at the top. Views were amazing. Room was very clean and well equipped, bathroom was stunning. I highly recommend a stay. Plenty of restaurants in area. Brilliant walks.”
