“This long overdue review is finally being written because I'm thinking back of the wonderful 3-night stay I had at the end of August. :) The twin room was cozy, warm, and quiet after spending full days in Edinburgh. Oh and the Tunnock's caramel wafer biscuit and hot chocolate were welcome treats to return to and warm up to. LORNA IS WONDERFUL!! Every morning she made sure we started our day with her delicious breakfast offerings. Even though we had a car we opted to walk 10 minutes to the bus stop and take it to the city center. I enjoy walking out not surrounded by hotels and busy streets. It was nice feeling like a local and taking the 30 minute or so bus in. I highly recommend a stay and look forward to my next visit to Lorna and Whitecroft B & B! :)”
“This place was a highlight of my trip to Edinburgh last year. The host was so friendly and welcoming with great conversation, her breakfasts are huge and delicious. Took care of my daughter and I like we were family.”
“We truly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Mile. It's right in the center of the action so be prepared for lots of people everywhere. It was close to everything we wanted to see and what a great experience to stay in the midst of so much history. The accommodations were fantastic - we loved every aspect.”
“We had a fantastic 2 night stay at Sonas! We loved the clean and quiet room with lots of amenities, free parking, and walkable distance to downtown. Lots of delicious restaurants close by also! Thank you for the fantastic hospitality!”
“Elizabeth was really wonderful and made our day. She was kind, helpful and very funny. We missed our flight and were scrambling for somewhere to stay. We had booked the farmhouse as it was close and affordable and are so glad we did! The rooms were cozy and clean and the breakfast was really delicious. Elizabeth has been running the B&B for most her life and it really shows in the hospitality she showed us. I would definitely stay again and would recommend to others. There are no fridges in the rooms and the tv is small but that’s part of B&Bs usually anyway.”
“Extremely comfortable accommodation with lovely owners and spectacular views. Well positioned to explore the many East Lothian coastline locations as well as further afield.”
“A very beautiful and quaint restaurant with amazing customer service served with a smile. Very dog friendly too and Poppy Dog got treats and plenty of friendly pats. Everything was lovely, the food, the decor and even the toilets. The food was amazing and well presented, so thanks to the Chef and a wee walk around the beautiful village to finish it off. A beautiful place to go to.”
“Dene Guest House was wonderful. Besides the place being immaculate, Hamish and his amazing Spanish wife were extremely friendly and accommodating. We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed the quiet and tranquility of the neighborhood. The shared bathroom was never a problem - we almost never had to wait. As budget travelers, we highly appreciated the free cereal, coffee and fridge available to us. Would definitely return.”
“Underrated hotel! The room was huge, had a big bathtub, a double bed, a bunk bed, and even a couch — all for just £100. Super good value. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The location’s great too, just a short walk to the tram station and about 25 minutes to the city center. Also loved having my own fridge and access to a 24-hour kitchen. Would definitely stay again.”
“Lovely apartment, warm and comfortable with wonderful high ceilings. It was well positioned near to the centre of Edinburgh, so I didn't have to walk too far to see the sights.”
“It may seem like a cold place, but the services, rooms, and cuisine make it wonderful. Unfortunately the town has no interesting sites to offer, but the hotel is absolutely excellent. The cuisine is also spectacular: top-notch!”
“Just got back from an excellent weekend away in Edinburgh and this hotel certainly added to the experience. The staff are extremely friendly, polite and welcoming. The breakfast was fantastic and really sets you up for the day. We didn’t have any problems whilst we were there but I’m pretty confident that had we had one it would have been quickly resolved. Thank you for accommodating us and we’ll be sure to book again when we come back to visit your beautiful city”
“Stayed at The Queens for a night as a birthday present for my partner. The venue is beautiful inside and out, very tastefully decorated with modern and vintage touches throughout. Our room was spacious and the bed was soooooooo comfy! Angela and Judith were both so accommodating, as soon as we arrived they showed us the tea station just outside the dining room where you could help yourself to a vast selection of beautiful teas and provided milk for us to have a cuppa in our room. Water and glasses were waiting on arrival with shortbread and chocolates at the ready too (also lovely bowl of fresh fruit at the tea station) Breakfast was amazing and the table was set so beautifully with everything you could have thought of - even a bowl of juicy ripe cherries! The location is just perfect, it's right between Port Edgar Marina (where there are a few eateries and shops) and the main town. Would love to come back here for a stay when we are back in South Queensferry again and would 100% recommend booking a room here if you are in the area.”

“The castle and grounds are beautiful! Stayed here for my honeymoon & couldn't have been happier. The hosts were very nice but not intrusive (something I worry about with b&B's). My husband and I had a whole half of a castle to ourselves! 10/10 would stay again!”
“Our stay at Ingleneuk B&B was fantastic. It is perfectly located to enjoy the city- and the countryside and it is easily reachable by bus. The room was clean and cosy, the shower was nice and the breakfast we got every morning was amazing. We got to choose what we wanted to eat the next morning out of a small menu with a great selection. Also the host, Lynda is a lovely and very friendly woman. We're happy to come back if we're ever gonna come to Edinburgh again (we stayed from 28.08.2023 - 31.08.2023). Lastly we recommend booking via the website, it was an easy booking process.”
“I wish there was a 6 Star option!! This was our 9th day of walking The John Muir Way and the sign outside the B&B was a relief!! Our stay at the Anchorage was perfect. From the moment we were greeted by the lovely Miss Gina to the final step out the door the next day our stay was a gift! The room was fresh and clean with a lovely ensuite bathroom, the bed was comfortable and our view of the Firth of Fourth was so relaxing. Breakfast tasty and served with a smile! And, as an added bonus, the village of Port Seton is right at the doorstep!”
“Beautiful guest house, better than a lot of hotels I have stayed in. Lovely family hosts”
“Really great service from Alice and Kevin. Our train up from London had been delayed massively due to issues which meant we arrived very late at night. They arranged to pick us up from the station. Really friendly and a good place to stay. Room was comfortable and breakfast delivered to the door.”
“Susan is a very welcoming host, she has an excellent house, extremely clean home and room, one more time thank you.”
“when I flew back to see my family I stayed here . lovely friendly lady named Christine . fantastic prices . highly recommend will be back next year ❤”
“Absolutely loved our stay! Super welcoming hosts and the best night's sleep ever.”
“Rooms were comfortable and clean. Loved the breakfast an the talk with Andrew and Sheila”
“The welcome was amazing the room was amazing the food was amazing We would recommend thistle dhu to anyone and will return as soon as we can”
“It’s so easy to stay in a generic location at this price, a faceless chain where the experience meets the same stamped-out expectations gained elsewhere. Spend about the same and it’s possible to stay somewhere different and, in the case of Porteous’ Studio, it’s supporting the creative talent of two young architects. Keen to experience work which has had a lot of critical acclaim, a stay for a couple of nights enabled me to enjoy at first hand the care and detail. Carefully sourced and hand-crafted furniture and detail make this stand out from the crowd. Perfectly sized for a few days away, located very centrally off the Grassmarket, the studio was somehow a combination of welcoming and spartan at the same time. There’s no TV and little in the way of other home comforts but that’s missing the point entirely. A quiet retreat in the middle of a city is a clever thing indeed.”
“Had a lovely night away. Fantastic views. Friendly highland cows. Lodge was very clean. Would stay again”
“My 2nd stay at Inchgrove, and I enjoyed it as much as the first! Duncan and Walter are great hosts, and breakfast will keep you going all day! Rooms are nice and clean and a good value. You can’t beat the location! I recommend Inchgrove and will stay there any time I visit Edinburgh!”
“We stayed here in July and had a gorgeous room overlooking the pocket park and garden across the street. Parking was easy, there were 2 restaurants, and the bathtub was ample. All this would have led to a positive review but hotel staff went above and beyond. I left a valuable piece of jewelry behind and they shipped it overseas for me. Excellent service - highly recommend!”
“Finally got to use a voucher received last Christmas and it was worth the wait. The whole experience was excellent. We had lunch in the bar. All of the staff were very attemtive and seemed genuinely happy to help. Both mains were well received, and the sticky toffee pudding was divine. We wont leave it so long to make another visit!”
“We had a wonderful stay at The Bridge Inn in Ratho this past September. This charming canal-side inn is a hidden gem just outside Edinburgh and near the airport, offering the perfect blend of peaceful countryside atmosphere and excellent hospitality. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated with lovely views of the Union Canal. The inn has that cozy, traditional Scottish pub feel that makes you instantly feel comfortable and at home. The location right on the canal made for a truly serene setting, especially waking up to the peaceful waterside views. One of the highlights of our stay was our leisurely walk along the Union Canal towpath. The canal walk from Ratho is absolutely beautiful, with tranquil waters reflecting the sky and lush greenery lining the path. We strolled for miles, enjoying the peaceful countryside, watching narrowboats glide by, and spotting ducks and swans along the way. It was the perfect way to unwind and escape the bustle of the city while still being so close to Edinburgh. Dinner at The Bridge Inn's restaurant was fantastic! The menu featured delicious Scottish fare with a modern twist, all made with fresh, quality ingredients. We enjoyed Steak pie and Fish & Chips. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and inviting, with attentive service from the friendly staff who made excellent recommendations. The combination of comfortable accommodation, stunning canal-side location, wonderful walks, and excellent dining made our stay at The Bridge Inn truly memorable. It's an ideal spot for anyone looking to experience the Scottish countryside while staying close to Edinburgh and to the airport.”
