“I've only been to the bar and have been calling it The Percy when recommending it to people. But it's also called The Persevere Bar and there's a bar and a restaurant - quite confusing. However, when you get past the branding confusion, the place offers a rich menu with something for every taste. Haven't yet tried some of the Polish dishes but the classics - beef steak or a burger - are amazing and come at a very reasonable price. Service is consistently great and there's a quiet and nice atmosphere despite the sport screens. Dogs are also allowed which makes it extra welcoming.”

“Served a really tasty lunch here just before Christmas! We had a festive wrap which came with roasties and a little jug of Gravy. I love it when places do something a little different and who would be chuffed with surprise roasties and Gravy?”

“For pure haggis taste experiment, here is the place. Steak pie has lack of salt but good anyway. Waiter is amazing, he helped us about picking the dish and adviced some other places. The sticky dessert is edible, but I don't recommend. Restaurant is on the second floor, you can enter from first floor pub.”

“Escaped from the rain for lunch at Hector’s. This place has plenty of varied seating options and a sizable menu that includes some daily specials. We chose the Drink and meal combo for about 13 pounds. Both were good but I preferred the clubhouse. I would highly recommend this as a possible stop along the nearby stream side walk.”

“Quick and easy entry with the prebooking. Parking was straightforward. Not heaving with people when we went, so there wasnt any jostling. Clean. Good value for money and straight forward snacky food upstairs. I recommend if you have some kiddos needing to blow off some physical steam!”

“The char on the porterhouse was great! This is steak done right on the pan, better than sous vide. The sauces were also memorable. Our favourites were the blue cheese and the bone marrow sauce. The chimichurri helped cut away the monotony of beef, fries and the savoury sauces. It provided the tangy, spicy flavours necessary to finish the 800g steak. The best deal was that on Tuesdays, the porterhouse was going for £50 with 2 fries and 3 sauces, instead of the usual £80. The happy hour earl grey martini was also refreshing and a great pairing to cleanse the palette after the meal!”

“Best bar by far in portobello. Staff are excellent, very attentive, happy to chat and always have a smile on their faces. Portobello bar has the best juke box in the lothians as well. Manager/owner Tracy, is a lovely kind person, who knows her stuff. Regulars and visitors are always made welcome.”

“We are the Milan Club Scotland and we meet at Footlights for every game. We think that the pub is great, with great atmosphere all around, lots of screen, good food and selection of beers. It is never too much trouble to book a table and Ian is always nice and kind with us giving us the spot that we request. Great finding! Thank you Ian and all the staff”

“Chilled out for half an our with a ham & cheese toastie and a flat white coffee. Sat in a high back leather chair in the far corner of the seating area, I can plug my laptop in to the socket next to the chair and relax for a wee while. I do quite enjoy coming to this shop for a rest from a hectic day in town.”

“Called in after the rugby on Sunday 24th November...What a fabulous find, on the way back to Haymarket Station! Comfortable seating, terrific atmosphere, and really friendly and attentive bar staff. Good selection of beers and spirits too, along with a well-stocked Juke Box. My family and I all agree, this will become a regular haunt when we're over in Edinburgh. Thanks to everyone at the pub.”
