“No food served so ignore the food rating i left. The pub is nice, its old and yeah its quiet and laid back, ignore comments about bad atmosphere, only a pub for regulars etc this simply isnt true. You will have no issues if you arent an idiot, yes you will get told off for using ur phone, for swearing, blasting music etc, its a sam smiths pub, thats how they all are and have always been, its not some chav pub, if you cant abide by the well known rules just dont go lmao.”

“This was a superb pub for drinking, with a lively old Tudor interior! The classic pub imagery on the walls and ceilings adds a quirkiness, counter has a compact design. I enjoyed a pint of Mango Cider, sitting at a large table with comfy seats!”

“Eaten here now on a few occasions. The food here is excellent. The steak pie is to die for and had the fish yesterday. Best piece of fish I have had in ages. Not greasey one bit. Hate fish when all wet and sloppy. Not here it was cooked perfect. Def be back again.”

The staff are always attentive and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. “A Pub Reborn – Finally on the Up Again! I used to come to this pub years ago when it had a real buzz about it, but sadly, like many locals, I stopped going when it started to go downhill. The atmosphere faded, service dropped, and the place felt tired and neglected. But what a difference now! I popped in recently out of curiosity and was genuinely impressed. The new manager has clearly taken the reins with purpose and pride. The place looks great — cleaner, brighter, and with a much more welcoming vibe. You can tell there’s been real effort to bring it back to life. The staff seem happier and more attentive, the drinks selection has improved, and there’s a renewed energy in the air. It finally feels like a pub again — not just a stopgap. It’s also nice to see locals slowly returning, and a few fresh faces too. Looking forward to seeing how it keeps improving — it’s well on its way to being the community hub it once was. Hats off to the new management — you’re doing a brilliant job!”

“I booked to come in here after a day of walking in the area. Not knowing the area well and being autistic, I was nervous, so I called up to book and ask questions. My mind was immediately put to rest, Rob and the lady (Sorry can't remember your name) were so kind, patient and understanding. They immediately knew where to put me after me explaining my needs. I booked in for 2pm on a Tuesday, explaining I might be a bit early or late depending on walking speed and conditions. Upon arriving early at 1:30pm, I was greeted by Rob, who got me seated in the 'library', a space off to the side, where there's just the one table. He explained how to order and about the food. I ordered cod and chips. The food came quite (but not too) quickly and was fresh. The portion size was generous. The peas weren't overcooked like they are in a lot of places. Chips came a bit lightly done for my liking but I'm sure if I ask them next time, they'll make them crisper. Accessibility: The entrance is level, but the door is heavy due to the buildings age. Some wheelchair users might need to phone the bar and get staff help to open it. The inside itself is indeed wheelchair accessible. I forgot to check on toilets. As stated above, awareness of hidden disabilities seems great and the staff I dealt with were very patient and clear when speaking with me.”

“First of all I only went for Sunday lunch and was really good, the mussels starter excellent as was the pink melt in your mouth roast beef and the medley of vegetables plus the cauliflower cheese. I had the Eton mee which was also excellent. The only thing I would add is I would like my plate to have been warmer for the main course.”
