“A great stop in on our walking tour of Chester. Very friendly and helpful staff. Was unable to stop for food , but we certainly will fry the extensive pub menu. Restrooms were clean and tidy with all amenities. Well done team.”

“Been coming here for many years before it was a Green King pub. First visit under the Green King ownership and it didn't disappoint, quite the opposite. I need to mention the chap with the beard behind the bar on the evening of Thursday 20th November, what a pleasure he was. Fantastic friendly service a breath of fresh air. Food and drink were fab too. Been to Green Kings all over the country and this was one of the best. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”

“Had a lovely meal at the weekend with the family and everyone was happy with their food. The menu has a good selection so should cater for everybody. Our server was very friendly and helped accommodate one of our dietary requirements. There's a very large beer garden section outside which is great for a sunny day. Carpark is on the smaller side.”

The food was absolutely spot on: full of flavour, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. “Just called for a quick one while the weather was actually warmish the other Saturday. Sat in the pleasant beer garden. Served by a very pleasant and polite girl. Couldn't get over the price for a large G and T very reasonable. Didn't have time to eat.”

“Came here on Saturday with a group of friends for Bottomless Brunch. The service was exceptional, couldn't find a fault. The staff were helpful and friendly, as well as making sure we were topped up. Fodd was absolutely delicious. We definitely got our money's worth. Would highly recommend, you won't be disappointed. “The hotel was very nice, reception were friendly and informative. The bar area was a nice space, cocktails were really good as were the fresh coffees, the staff were friendly whilst professional at all times. Breakfast was very good too, constantly topped up with fresh food, decent variety of food on offer. The whole team throughout the hotel work extremely efficiently. You can often judge a place by their reaction when things go wrong and there was a very difficult intoxicated man in the bar area on Friday evening. The staff worked swiftly, professionally & effectively in removing him without disruption to other guests.”

“We didn't stay over but the food was top class. I had chicken stuffed with haggis on top of mash and carrot and turnip, it was so good. The wife had a brisket sandwich which came with salad and chips, she was very impressed. That and a pint cost less than fifty quid.”

“Came here early on a Friday night for a meal for 2. The Christmas menu had just came into effect and was superb, we both had the portabello mushroom to start, the slow braised beef with winter veg for mains and I also managed to fit in the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert. The service was impeccable and Callum who I think is either the supervisor or manager had an immediate knowledge of kitchen stock when we asked for oysters (we ended up getting 10 of the remaining 12!) The other male server was very friendly, attentive but not to the point of annoyance and made sure we had everything we needed and even anticipated that we might want extra plates and cutlery when sharing the dessert. The only improvements I can think of would be to ensure cutlery arrives before or concurrently with the food. I waited for a couple of minutes salivating in front of my brownie before the spoons arrived. However this didn’t detract from the whole experience. Also, a mobile card machine would be more convenient.”

“We needed somewhere to eat before visiting Chester Zoo lights and this was the closest place I could find, so we weren't expecting a great deal. This place far exceeded expectation, the burger we had is one of if not the best I've had and my 11 year old grandson told the waitress he would give the restaurant a 5 star rating. We would definitely go again.”

“We booked the Private Dining Room on Sunday to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. There were 18 of us in total. We had a great relaxing time, as we were not rushed in anyway. The food was to an excellent standard. delicious and served hot to everyone at the same time. The staff especially Ellie were very friendly, efficient and couldn't do enough to make everyone welcome and looked after. We had lots of compliments about the meals, the venue and the staff. The room was lovely with lovely views over the garden. We could not find a fault with anything and would encourage anyone looking for a venue for their event not to hesitate booking Rake Hall.”

“Went in for dinner after wet day at the zoo. Pub was nice and warm when walked in and straight away the smell of the food in carvery smelt fantastic. Bar staff were welcoming young lady that served me I think was called Lindsey. We all ordered a soft drink and carvery each( 3 adults 2 children) chefs working on carvery one was Kenny didn't catch the other lads name but both were very pleasant. Young lady called Ellie brought are deserts who was also very attentive and smilie.”

“We rented their apartment unit with my parents to visit family in the Chester area. We stayed for 5 days. It was the best decision we ever made. The staff was courteous, the location is more than ideal. There are many shops in the area to get snacks or take-out. We never cooked, except for breakfast, but there is a fully loaded kitchen. It was clean and stylish, and close to everything. About a 5 min cab ride to the train station, and a five minute walk to major shopping and historical sites. They made cots available to us, and helped us with directions, or trouble shooting with the washing machine (included in the laundry room). Very reasonably priced, we found, as well. Would recommend to anyone, our relatives will be doing the same, hope to be back to visit another time!”
