“Amazing lunch yesterday! Greeted by a very friendly and lovely lady. Overall the place had a nice chilled atmosphere. Excellent service from friendly staff. Food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Nice vegetarian choice for my daughter who normally struggles to find options she likes. Mochas and hot chocolate were out of this world. If we didn't live far away we'd be here all the time!”
“I found this a hidden gem. Room was great. Staff very helpfull. Price quality equation very good. Food also good. Parking great for the bike. Trucks passing by can disturb light sleeping people, but i am not.”
“Visited on the 4th May, after spending the day at Oulton Park, we were starving and exhausted after attempting 2 places before that weren't serving food(2 adults 2kids). We arrived here in hope of some good food. When we arrived all staff that crossed our paths were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We were seated straight away handed a menu with friendly talk from staff with the 2 kids. Drinks were quick. We ordered our food, when our food came it was hot and look amazing. All four of our meals were faultless, a great portion size and wasn't much left, our belly's full. We decided on our desserts, they also arrived quickly and again absolutely amazing. Our bill was £100, this was x4 main meals x2 adults and x2 child's, 4 desserts, x2 pints of lager x3 J20s. A very fair price for the quantity of food. We cannot fault anything from start to finish. Places like these are hard to find especially with happy to be there staff, it makes all the difference so everyone that worked that evening well done and thank you for a pleasant visit. We'll be sure to go back when we are in the area again”
“I didnr stay at this hotel but went for dinner with friends and I just wanted to say that having eaten several times at this hotel this was the very best. The main thing was the service. We had a delightful young woman that looked after us she was efficient, knowledgeable, well presented and took our orders with minimum effort. Why cant all waiting on staff be like her. She even listened to my suggestion of a large print menu or magnifier to assist people with poor sight to remain independent whilst out. Having spoken in favour of our waiting on staff I should also say the food was lovely too.”
“Fireworks. Food and atmosphere was brilliant, my sister’s family and my family had a really good time. (Family of 8) Two young girls who looked after the Sunter table were brilliant. Especially the young girl with brown hair, who took over half way through and took desert orders. She was brilliant with the kids. Great night thanks team.”
“What a gem. Hadn't booked but they kindly fitted us in, and I'm glad we went. The food was spectacular with a great choice from the menu. Only down side was that I was a little disappointed with the amount of vegetables/ potatoes that came with it. Easily resolved by ordering some more, but it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Staff were polite and helpful, and although the restaurant was fully booked, we weren't at time made to feel that we had to go. Would easily recommend to anyone who comes to Chester and fancies an Italian.”
“Excellent experience to dine here these two nights I stayed in Chester. The first night, I ordered steak, medium rare, the meat was really well prepared. The taste, the seasoning was super tasty. Tonight, my husband and I ordered lamb chops, it was AMAZING!!!! The sauce was so tasty. It’s definitely worth coming again.”
“Lovely little pub, staff really friendly and the food is really good quality. Lovely atmosphere and dog friendly. I'd recommend this to friends and family and wouldn't hesitate to go back”
“Great find off the beaten track alongside a canal. This spot offers a great relaxing atmosphere with comfortable indoor or outdoor seating and friendly staff. Great selection of Gin's and beers on offer, we didnt have food here so cant comment there. Well worth the visit. While in Chester, this a must visit.”
“Best vegan Indian restaurant. A friendly service from Bobby, the Punjabi Samosas were some of the best I’ve tasted, this is how Indian food should be, the stuffed puri bread was divine. And for the first time ever we had a choice of not one but four cakes for desert, everything is labelled clearly as vegan. We had a perfect evening, thank you and keep up the good work.”
“I was in Chester for holiday with my mother. And 2 Times i was here to eat some british-indian food. And i can tell: it was just amazing here! First time i ate chicken madras and the second time i have eaten chicken korma. Both Was just great - very good Taste of the sauce and the chicken was really Tender. Also aß an appetizer i have had some lamb tikka - that was great also! I have been to chester before and went to another indian restaurant. But it was not nearly aß good, as here. I hope, i will come back again to chester - then i will be definitly eating here again!”
“Absolutely delicious food Fairly priced Quirky decor Great hospitality friendly helpful staff Tasty cocktails Best food I have had in a while and will definitely be recommending.”
“I had the pleasure of inviting my beloved friends whom introduced me to this place ( they are live in Chester and I am an Architect from Kurdistan region of Iraq) to have a delightful lunch with my family, all five members agrees that the best fish and chips we had in UK was in this restaurant; we’ve tried several in London , Liverpool and Manchester but nothing to beat this restaurants fish and chips , also had their chicken sort of pie looking dish , perfect as well , very nice interior and outdoor seating and garden , Salut to the team and polish lady who served us.”
“I received a warm welcome as I popped in to the ship inn today. A very kind gentleman closely resembling Harry Hill even showed me to a fabulous upstairs seating area. This was perfect for a warm summers day as the breeze through the bifolds was most welcome. The food came promptly and was home cooked. On Mondays it’s even half price! A surprise find as I don’t often cross over the river. The Ship Inn is situated on the river Dee bridge. On this occasion I was walking but suspect there’s a small car park opposite. The ground floor is accessible and has a loo situated here for those with mobility or creaky knees you should be fine. Nice beer lovely food and very welcoming staff I highly recommend and won’t leave it so long to cross the river next time!”
“First time having Christmas dinner in a restaurant/pub. What can I say , food was outstanding. The Chef Ryan certainly knows how to prepare and present the dishes. Service was brilliant by Marco who was really friendly and attentive. We enjoyed it so much we are hoping to book again for next year.”
“Stunning pub. We booked a table here for dinner and it’s a good job we did because the main part of the pub was heaving. Thankfully, they have a small, quaint area for dining bookings, which is where we were sat. The food was unreal. I had the wild mushroom and tarragon soup for starters. It was packed full of flavour and had a perfect consistency. The black pudding sausage roll looked, and apparently tasted, incredible. The braised shoulder of lamb was cooked beautifully, falling apart with the slightest tug. The gravy was so rich and complimented the lamb well. The veg had a good crunch to it, and the carrots were sweet, which worked well with the gravy. It was my first time trying dauphinoise potatoes and I wasn’t a big fan. Were they unpleasant? No. Were they cooked badly? I don’t think so. I likely just don’t like dauphinoise potatoes. The sticky toffee pudding was nice and didn’t seem to be bought in, as desserts so often are. Service was very friendly throughout, although towards the end, as the main pub got packed, we struggled to get the attention of a waitress as they were occupied with that part of the pub. We can’t wait to go back here and sample whatever is on the menu next time we’re in Chester!”
“Had a table for 2 on Sunday 24/08 at 3.30pm. Arrived slightly ahead of time. Table ready. Food delivered in a timely fashion. Wow! Good home cooked Sunday roast. We couldn’t finish it! Staff excellent and friendly! Pub is great and would recommend!”
“If you're after a fun event space that oozes character, then try Alexander's Live. We're local to Chester so we were already familiar with the venue from our visits to their weekly Comedy Club (they're excellent too!) and decided that we wanted to host our wedding there. Our conversations were with Jamie, the venue's owner, who was faultless in his accommodation of our needs and wants for the big day. I was so pleased to hear that I could hang my homemade bunting up! We found him to be openminded and responsive— just what you want when you're organising any event! Jamie coordinated well with our other vendors too, ensuring they had all the information they needed to get set up for the day. The same can be said for all the staff at Alexander's Live. They gave impeccable service on the day - in fact, we can't praise them enough, they were such a dream: attentive, accommodating and pleasant. We are so incredibly pleased with how everything turned out and that we picked Alexander's as our venue. Photo credit: Luke Hassall Photography”
“We love the Vale Royal Abbey Arms because it’s a large, well-managed pub in a good location, with plenty of parking. Our dog loves it because there’s usually plenty of space in the dog-friendly dining areas and there’s even a dog menu and doggy treat station. The food is very good - I’m a particular fan of the steak and ale pie, and you can have a miniature dessert and coffee if you’ve not got room for a large portion. The service is excellent. We have been looked after several times by Ben - who is particularly thoughtful and efficient.”
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional service provided by the gentleman who worked night shift on the 27th November 2025. From the moment we arrived, his kindness and warm hospitality made us feel truly welcome. My husband just lost his mam that night and we both were devastated. My husband forgot to register our car but the gentleman offered his help and sorted it out for us. He even offered his condolences which is very kind and heartwarming. Unfortunately we forgot to ask his name. He wears glasses and worked night shift on 27 November 2025. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure every detail was taken care of, always greeting us with a friendly smile and a genuine willingness to help. We only stayed for 1 night but we've already decided to book this hotel again every time we're in the area.”
“I Visted the Levant kitchen and bar on Monday night while in the area because of previous reviews. These reviews do not lie! The beef burger was incredible with great service and polite servers! I would highly recommend the Levant kitchen and bar.”
“I’ve been to the Farmers Arms a few times, and every time I come I am always greeted with a warm welcome. Dave the owner really makes you feel good the minute you walk through the door. The food is really good and priced very well. I would highly recommend Dave and the team. A community feel pub with plenty of events each week to get involved with.”
“We have been coming here for years with friends and familyNever disappointed .Food is always perfect. Tiger always makes sure we are well looked after. Special mention to Mahi (Charlie) he is a great asset to the team.”
“First time trying food from here since moving into the area a few weeks ago would highly recommend food was spot on , fast service and friendly staff, will definitely be ordering from here again”
“So, first we went to another local restaurant, which didn't have a Christmas dinner ready at lunch time the first day of offering. Anyway, we thought we'd try and get in Nelson's, even though we knew it would be quite busy. The car park was quite full, but even though we had come in two cars, we found parking and went in. Christmas lunches were in full effect and the dine area was full and we couldn't get a party of three until 90 mins later. However, we could sit and be served in the lounge straight away, so we did that. We had the turkey dinner pictured and it was delicious, lots of food and everything was cooked to perfection. The gravy was lovely too. We then had a chocolate and toffee cheesecake for dessert and that was also delicious and a decent portion with a little scoop of ice cream. The staff were great and our waiter had an attention to detail I wasn't expecting. Overall I would recommend highly. My preconceived thoughts were it's going to be pretentious, but it really wasn't.”
“My friends and I have had and are still having!! The best bottomless brunch thanks to Rio, honestly a great afternoon, thankyou so much for looking after us so well, we loved it! Hannah, Emma, Abi and Vicki xx”
“Cineworld Broughton is hands down one of the best spots for a movie night in the area! The highlight has to be the 4D cinema experience – it’s next-level. The moving seats, wind, scents, and effects really pull you into the action. Makes watching a film feel like an adventure! The cinema itself is spacious, clean, and well-kept. There’s plenty of parking too, so no stress about finding a spot, even on busy weekends. Loads of food options nearby if you want to grab a bite before or after your movie. Perfect place for families, date nights, or just catching the latest blockbuster with mates. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t tried the 4D yet – it’s a game changer!”
“Popped in today as we were in town for the university open day. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. The pizza was delicious and the service excellent. Will be back!”
“This was a very nice surprise to find a Chinese restaurant inside what I thought was going to be a typical English pub. Having sectioned off what I can only think must have been at one time "the snug", it has now been converted into a little Chinese restaurant with four tables each capable of seating four people, making a nice area for a 16 people group to eat within the building itself ( and certainly more tables available should they be required). There is of course with all Chinese, a takeaway option. For my meal I had chicken fried rice with a satay chicken main dish, and some very fresh and crisp prawn crackers (see photo) with the addition of a nice pint from the pump. Very tasty and quick service along with a pleasant staff. A first (but not last) experience. Loved it”
“Gorgeous food! Very friendly and accommodating staff who couldn’t do enough for us. Lovely atmosphere and good value for money. Definitely recommend and will be returning. Katie was a fab server and the chef Alan made our choice of food easier with his recommendations.”
