“Really good food. Calamari was nice and crispy rather than rubbery or slimy and came with plenty of sauce. Burger and chips were faultless - caramelised onions always take it to another level for me. The meringue dessert was also just right. Would have liked a few more non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks options but not a deal-breaker by far. Came to £37 which included 2 drinks, starter, main and dessert.”
“A nicely located pub just in the heart of Prospect Park. The place has plenty of free parking (don’t forget to register at check in). The menu is quite ‘suculent’ with lots of options and nicely cooked food (not a fish ‘n’ chip bar). The view is great over the park with a quiet ambiance. You can have salad as much as you like which is a vegan’s paradise. Waiting time for taking the order is a bit long but quite polite so doesn’t feel rushed in any way. Book and enjoy a nice lunch or dinner with family, friends or just on your own.”
“Visited Heckfield Place for the second time this year, and the experience was every bit as impressive, if not more so, than our first stay last year. This place will always hold a special place in my wife and I’s hearts, and even objectively it stands out as one of the top-tier establishments we’ve ever stayed at. From the room quality and finishing to the food and breakfast offerings, every detail is beautifully executed. This time we had the privilege of dining at Hearth Restaurant, which was absolutely outstanding. The service was impeccable from check-in to check-out; there wasn’t a single thing you could fault them for. We also loved walking around the lovely grounds, enjoying the afternoon tea and cake service, and relaxing with drinks in the intimate Moon Bar. Everything felt seamless, from the interiors to the setting to the hospitality. In short, Heckfield Place is exceptional in every sense, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.”
“Fantastic place to eat. I've been going here for the last 2 years or so and so far have not had a bad experience. That includes me and my wife, family parties and using their take-away service. The service is amazing, all polite, efficient and the owner of the restaurant is always on hand and thanks us as we leave. The drinks are a little pricer than I would like but that is the same no matter where you go and the pudding options are very limited (although I'm usually stuffed before getting to them) but overall, a brilliant place.”
“This Italian restaurant was packed even on a regular weekday — and after tasting the food, I completely understand why. Everything we ordered was expertly prepared and full of flavor. Highly recommended.”
“I went with my kids for the Sunday buffet, the great thing is its all freshly made, rather than sitting there, a small selection of food but more than enough for any person. The staff are attentive and amazing, friendly, the food tastes soooooooooooooo good, I am currently writing this just before I step into a food coma on my sofa! Loved it, would recommend 5*”
“A place to enjoy excellent Indian cuisine, with flavours unlike any other curry house in or around Reading. Dishes we opted for included Nilgri lamb chops, tandoori mixed grill and Bengal Bream - all were excellent, and went down well with a pint of Cobra beer! Coupled with a relaxed atmosphere & great service...makes for a thoroughly enjoyable evening out at a lovely setting in Pangbourne.”
“A favourite pub for the Morris Dancing community. Great setting, beautiful old "real pub" with a fine range of real ales. The staff are lovely and the regulars, of which there are several, very welcoming. Given its popularity, on street parking can be challenging but well worth the effort.”
“Phoned for a reservation and advised food served from 6 pm. Got a very warm welcome from staff. Shown to table. As well as menu's given, there is a great selection of specials on a blackboard that is brought to table. We had main courses, desserts and coffee afterwards. The food was excellent and ate it all. When I asked if we could have cream with our coffee instead of milk - no problem. We had a nice relaxed evening in a lovely homely pub and our stomachs were full. Well recommend a visit to all. 8th February 2020 - under new management Got a very warm welcome and noticed new decor. Food was FANTASTIC and took photos. Look forward to next visit.”
“Great Mexican with nice decor and super friendly and attentive staff. The cocktails are amazing. Big and strong, like they should be and the same with the starters. Large portions. The mains were equally big and full of flavour. Would definitely be coming back for more.”
“Absolutely wonderful find tucked away near Maidenhead but definitely worth a visit; if you are looking for a standard curry house, there are other good places; if you want a gastronomic experience not to be forgotten, visit this place. The ambiance lovely, the Michelin style presentation was stunning and each and every dish was delicious; coming from someone with Indian parents with very high food standards, we really loved visiting and look forward to going back with friends!”
“I've had several meals here now and it never disappoints!! The food is outstanding, the service is always with a smile and I'm now a huge Spice Merchant fan!! Great place to meet with friends or pop for meal with my partner. Love it :)”
“Food was lovely, service was a little slow and meal came out wrong but staff was friendly and correct food given tasted lovely. Desert was also nice. an expensive place but good food.”
“Really nice, authentic Chinese and Cantonese cuisine served at this restaurant throughout the day. Tea sets are also authentic and served like typical cha chaan tengs.”
“Pleasant. We were only here to drink on way to football. We got a warm welcome. A very lovely pub.very clean and tidy. Dogs welcome.”
“This pub is now owned by Siren Craft Brewery in Wokingham. Again dog friendly. A warm welcome by the staff and customers alike. Enjoyed my visit, first time I have been here since it had been taken over.”
“Great pub, one of my favourites. Even though we have to drive past 10 pubs to get there we call it our local. No food cooked here but have different food trucks roll up pretty much every weekend which dish out some great food which you can eat inside. Some of the best variety of beers ive come across. Open fire, staff are so friendly and welcoming, locals friendly. Board games next to the bar. Just a perfect little gem of a pub. Wish we lived walking distance :)”
“I honestly cannot fault this place. The food is heavenly, staff are perfect, and vibes are immaculate! On a hot day enjoy your food and drinks by the beautiful canal, on a cold day enjoy them inside the cosy restaurants with the fire. I genuinely could not name a nicer restaurant/ pub if I tried. The only problem is my bank account because I can’t stop coming here for the gorgeous food! Although I would say reasonably priced for the quality you get.”
“It's been a while since I have been to Las Iguanas and we visited with our 2 young daughters. The staff were super polite and the service was excellent. The food portions were generally quite generous although I felt my chicken fajita needed a little more chicken. "Kids eat free" but it did mean we had to pay for full adult meals. Overall still a great place for South American style food and very family friendly.”
“Fantastic pub! The food was excellent and we were very well looked after by Nathan and the rest of the team who were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.”
“Excellent food and service! The staff truly cares about the costumers and we felt truly looked after. It’s the best indian food I’ve ever had! We will go back for sure. Highly recommended!”
“This meal was a gift from my husband. We booked an early table on a Sunday evening so the restuarant was fairly quiet. It's a lovely setting, right on the river and is nicely decorated. The service was very good and our food was delicious. My arranchini starter was one of the best I've had. We have already decided to return and try the tasting menu next time.”
“The Volunteer is a traditional pub in the heart of Theale, Berkshire. It has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with exposed brickwork and a traditional fireplace. The menu features a wide variety of pub classics, as well as some more modern dishes. We started our meal with sticky pigs in blankets. These were perfectly cooked and the sausages were juicy and flavorful. For our main courses, I had the chicken curry and my partner had the steak and ale pie. Both dishes were delicious. The chicken curry was rich and flavorful, and the steak and ale pie was hearty and filling. The service at The Volunteer was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. We also enjoyed the selection of beers on tap. Overall, we had a great experience at The Volunteer. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We would definitely recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great meal in Theale. Here are some additional details about the dishes we ordered: * Sticky pigs in blankets: These were made with pork sausages wrapped in bacon and cooked until golden brown. * Chicken curry: This was a rich and flavorful curry made with chicken, onions, peppers, and spices. It was served with rice and naan bread. * Steak and ale pie: This was a hearty and filling pie made with steak, onions, mushrooms, and ale. It was served with fries and peas. Polly our waitress was very friendly and helpful, she is a credit to the pub. Great atmosphere.”
“Lovely lunch. A hidden away place. Menu has almost all gluten-free options. Had risotto for starter, followed by steak and finished off with cheesecake. All perfectly done, especially the risotto which was fantastic. Highly recommended for anyone in the area”
“My husband ordered a take away dinner for us which he collected from the restaurant with all the standard precautionary measures due to Covid-19. We can't fault them, from the ease and efficiency of ordering online to the notifications of when it is ready to collect. Our meal was delicious, full of flavour, good portions and great menu choice. We look forward to trying other lovely dishes from there. Thank you.”
“A really nice Thai restaurant with a great selection of great food and drink options. The flavours are really good and the spice levels are great.”
“Excellent food, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Please don't be put off by the 'bring your own' alcohol as the staff are more than happy to chill and serve for you. Highly recommended.”
“I recently visited Itsu, a Japanese restaurant located on Broad Street in Reading, and had an exceptional dining experience. As someone trying Japanese cuisine for the first time, I was thoroughly impressed. We ordered the Veggie Dragon Balls and Korean Stir Fry Noodles, both of which were delicious and beautifully presented. The ambience of the eatery was inviting and comfortable, creating a perfect setting for a relaxed meal. The service was outstanding; the staff were friendly and attentive, offering excellent suggestions that truly enhanced our dining experience. The recommendations provided by our server were spot on, making our meal even more enjoyable. One of the highlights was the quality of the sauces, particularly the Soy Sauce Teriyaki, which added a delightful flavor to the dishes. The attention to detail and the high quality of the ingredients used in the food were evident in every bite. Overall, our visit to Itsu was a memorable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore Japanese cuisine. The combination of great food, superb service, and a pleasant atmosphere makes Itsu a must-visit restaurant in Reading.”
“Lovely food, nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. Delicious, well presented food of a very high standard. Definitely recommend.”
“We got a take away as we were feeling lazy and as a friend had recommended Haka we gave it a try. We had a mix of bits and loved everything we got, we ordered three rice and were surprised to find that they give big portions of rice rather than the small ones some restaurants do. We’ll be going back as we enjoyed the food and the quick turn around time too - about 10/15 minutes. Be warned you have to pay with cash so make sure to take some.”
