“Stayed for the night following a friend's birthday celebration. Warm welcome on check in and everything explained regarding breakfast and checking out. Beautiful large room for 2 of us to share, everything you could need to make a comfortable stay. Bathroom with a large walk in shower, looked fairly new and sparkling clean. Comfy beds and a fabulous breakfast in the morning. Perfectly poached eggs. The evening meal was lovely everyone was impressed with their choices and portion sizes were fabulous for the price. Staff were happy to add a candle to our friend's desert for us. Definitely would recommend and would stay again if in the area.”

“That was one of the best curries I’ve ever had… and I’ve had curries from all over. After popadoms we skipped starters and I went for the Hook Tandoori Special. Every bite was different, every bite was a pleasure to eat, it was faultless. Big chunks of very well cooked chicken, lamb, fish, prawns, king prawns and even a potato wedge - which was great, because I love Bombay aloo. Chunks of tomatoes, onion, peppers and chillies mixed in with it too - take or leave the chillies but I took them (they’re quite hot). I honestly think it would feed two people, I’ve got a big appetite and struggled on my own, was glad I only had to make it over the road to lie down. If I didn’t live 200 miles away, I’d probably be their most regular customer. I’ll definitely be making a point of visiting again next time I’m in the area. “The Volunteer is a traditional pub in the heart of Theale, Berkshire. It has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with exposed brickwork and a traditional fireplace. The menu features a wide variety of pub classics, as well as some more modern dishes. We started our meal with sticky pigs in blankets. These were perfectly cooked and the sausages were juicy and flavorful. For our main courses, I had the chicken curry and my partner had the steak and ale pie. Both dishes were delicious. The chicken curry was rich and flavorful, and the steak and ale pie was hearty and filling. The service at The Volunteer was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. We also enjoyed the selection of beers on tap. Overall, we had a great experience at The Volunteer. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We would definitely recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great meal in Theale. “Excellent. Authentic. DELICIOUS!!! Had Cinnamon Bay delivered last night and it was AWESOME! The food arrived super quick, piping hot and beautifully packaged. All our dishes (king prawn sizzler, chicken madras, lamb birayani, saag aloo, onion bahji, tadka dahl, peshawari naan and chapati) were authentic, flavoursome and well spiced. Decent sized, but not huge portions, but for the extremely low prices we have no complaints. We'll just order more next time! Another thing we noted was how clean the foods were, no greasy residues. Thoroughly recommend.”

“This is not a pub we visit often but found ourselves here on the off chance. The ladies behind the bar were really great, they found us a seat, cleaned table and recommended food. Gammon was delicious, best pub food my partner has had in a long time. Fish and chips was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Highly recommend giving this great pub a try. We will return!”

“Came in today and ordered some food. I got egg fried rice. Sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken chow mein and a pancake roll. And I have got to say it was the best Chinese food I have had in a long time. I love Chinese food and it’s been a long time since I have been to a restaurant and been served food that was so nice. I’m now sat here with a bad belly because I just couldn’t stop eating hahaha ( I’ve made a pig of myself ) Service was fast. Staff was polite and the food was absolutely phenomenal. “We have just had an excellent Sunday lunch at the Jekyll and Hyde. There is a good selection of roasts on the main menu and the roast beef with seasonal vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were all beautifully presented and expertly cooked. The staff were friendly and inviting and we had a really lovely visit. We will definitely recommend the Jekyll and Hyde to friends and family. Looking forward to returning soon and trying more of your expansive menu. Great value for money too!”

“A huge thank you to the team at Reading Pizza Express. My mom visited the restaurant last Friday while she was in town for a quick lunch. She was visiting the country for a week and doesn’t speak the language, so when her card unexpectedly stopped working and she realised she didn’t have enough cash, she became quite stressed. The staff were incredibly kind — they reassured her, offered to reduce the cost of her meal, and even took the time to contact me so we could sort things out together. They truly went above and beyond to make her feel comfortable and supported. When we returned the next day to pay the remaining balance, they refused to take it, insisting that everything had already been taken care of.
