“We had a perfect meal here on saturday. Our dogs were welcomed so nicely by all staff and the food was delicious and service was attentive and quick. Shout out for the croquettes - they were amazing! We will definitely be coming back and recommending to all our friends! Thank you!”

“The Empress of Blandings Pub & Restaurant is a fantastic spot that strikes a great balance between a classic pub and a quality restaurant. The menu offers a wide and varied selection, with something to please everyone, and the portion sizes are very generous-come hungry! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal. Don’t skip the puddings-they’re absolutely delicious and a real highlight of the experience. A great place for hearty food and a cozy vibe.”

“Went for a saturday night family dinner. Walked in rather than booking a table due to other plans falling through- would definitely recommend! Staff were accommodating and lovely, with good service. We had 4 different dishes and they were all to a good standard, a little more expensive than other pubs in the area but the food matched this. Lots of decent vegetarian/vegan options that have clearly been thought out rather than being an afterthought, very impressed. I had the risotto which was delicious. The only downside was one of our wineglasses had a lipstick stain on it, but everything else was clean and I imagine this is not a regular occurrence. The pub is also dog friendly, including some tables in the restaurant area. Lots of parking. We will definitely be returning!”

“This 18th Century, Grade11 listed pub is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Nice pint of Fullers London Pride, with plenty of other beers to choose from. The original old pub has been extended to be more than twice it's floor area. Good food menu and friendly staff. Plenty of seating inside and out. Large car park. Frontage of the pub is best seen on the south side.”

“Had a very enjoyable meal for Mothers Day. My Mum's seafood platter looked incredible. The waitress was very helpful and informative, especially in regard to my Mother-in-Law's gluten allergy. We had a very cozy table tucked away from the main restaurant. A very nice night all round.”

“We needed a cold drink and a sit down during our visit to Romsey. The Phoenix stood centre stage on the high street. Not very alluring from the outside but just what we needed on the inside. A lovely chatty young lady served us a pint of ale and a lime and soda for a really good price compared to other establishments in the south of England. She chatted whilst she poured the drinks too which also makes a difference to me. Relatively quiet we found a table away from the bar and settled down. A typical old fashioned pub, nothing special, wooden floors, basic tables and chairs, 80s music playing in the background, quirky wall paper, nothing special but it had something, it had the ability to talk to your companion, it felt comfortable, not quite sure what it was but it definitely had something, maybe just the ambiance, who knows. If we were in Romsey again we would definitely pass through its doors again.”

“Great local pub in Winchester. We were 4 adults and 1 child, and we had 2 burgers and 2 Sunday Roast. I had the burger and it was DELICIOUS!!! Friendly and polite staff as well, the atmosphere was cosy, the decor is really lovely. Well done St James Tavern!”

“Incredible all around. Only stayed for one night, but the rooms were impeccable. Great service and incredible land curry! They let me borrow their wall outlet to plug in my USB (huge lifesaver) since I forget my adapter at the last hotel. Definitely give them your business.”

“Such a lovely place to come and get lunch /dinner with friends or family. They have a lovely spacious garden and some playing equipment for the kids to enjoy. They also have a lovely Tractor in the garden which you can sit on and enjoy. :) The food was tasty and definitely worth coming for! They also do a wide range of gluten free options which was very good for myself. They also have a kids menu and have good options and the portion sizes are good. I would recommend visiting! ☺️”

“We had Sunday lunch here as a group of 12 and everything was amazing! We pre-ordered our food and it came soon after we sat down. The extra dessert orders we placed on the day were no problem and the staff were all so accommodating. The added bonus was the enclosed children’s play area which I didn’t know was there when I booked. The children loved it! Will definitely return when we are in the area again.”

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The rustic charm of the place, combined with its modern touches, made for a perfect setting. The menu offered a delightful array of dishes, each more tempting than the last. I opted for the roast lamb, which was cooked to perfection – tender, flavourful, and accompanied by the most delicious gravy. My partner chose the fish and chips, and it was hands down the best we’ve ever had. The portions were generous, and the presentation was top-notch. What truly set this place apart, though, was the exceptional service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. They even took the time to chat with us about the history of the pub, which added a lovely personal touch to our visit. To top it all off, the dessert menu was a dream. We shared a sticky toffee pudding that was simply divine – the perfect end to a fantastic meal. “Had table for 10 last night for our mum's surprise 80th birthday. No pre order was required so everyone could choose on the night. Choice of normal or some Xmas options. The service was second to none. All drinks brought to table. Sean who looked after us was absolutely fantastic, a joy to have serving us. Made for a fun night and stepped in to take photos of the family. All the food was brought out in a good time, all hot, nothing was forgotten. Clearing service also seamless so a shout out to the young lady who was serving and clearing dishes. We all agreed it was a wonderful evening, lovely clean setting and I'd recommend to anyone. Thank you all at the white rabbit for making mum's 80th special.”

“Stayed for a short break to visit the Cathedral, Christmas Market and shops. The Westgate’s central position was ideal for access to everything. Room very comfortable. Food excellent and all the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Would highly recommend and hope to be able to return one day soon. Thankyou”
