Bar pub in Brighton

“Had a Sunday roast here at the weekend at is was up there with the best. The pork was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! Roast potatoes were crisp, salty goodness. The veg (cauliflower cheese, roasted carrots, greens, sweet potato purée) were all just as you’d want them. Great big fluffy Yorkshire - good stuff. And the gravy was thin but it packed a flavour punch and was served in a good quantity! If I could change one thing it would have been to swap out the purée for extra apple sauce, but that’s personal preference! My partner and friend were equally impressed with the vegetarian roast, however they were both slightly unsure of the veggie gravy which was orange, potentially carrot or sweet potato based. It was tasty - just unexpected. The sticky toffee pudding was really moist and flavourful! Personally I like it with a little less toffee sauce, or for it to be in a jug, but it didn’t stop us eating it all. Will definitely be back.”

“I reserved a table to watch the Women's Euros 2025 with some friends and I had the best experience! The atmosphere was brilliant, The Kemp had ensured each table had a good view of the various screens (inside and in the garden) and the staff were fabulous. They even had the celebratory songs ready to play the minute we had won the final. I just wanted to express my gratitude as my friends and I had the most joyful experience. Thanks Kemp pub team! xx”

“Absolutely wonderful place!! The food is veggie and vegan and it is incredible! The loaded fries with bacon jam were so good! The decor is so lovely, it's just such a warm and inviting place! “Popped in for impromptu lunch and chat with a mate. Warm, jolly welcome. Beer (Long Man) very pleasant and nicely kept. Food was excellent (I had the gammon, egg and chips - nice piece of meat, plenty of it and very tasty, my friend had a burger). Both very happy with the food, service and ambiance. Decamped outside for a smoke, to the large, covered seating area (with booths and heaters); we were so comfy we stayed outside for the rest of our visit. In all we stayed about 4-5 hours.”

“Had a great time at bottomless brunch with amazing service from Gray! Plenty of options catering for vegetarian and vegans too and you can change up the drinks and choose beer, prosecco or cocktail. It is excellent value with the variety. It's also a nice relaxed atmosphere with music that isn't so loud that you can't have a conversation. Would really recommend.”

“Brighton. A vibrant welcome and plenty to see and do. The Lanes offer a number of narrow km streets with quirky and Retro shops, coffee bars , bistros and the normal range of other shops on the town Centre. Promenade and Pier clean and welcoming (£2) to go on pier . Xxx Fill range of pubs for all tastes and entertainment. Prices typical for south meals £20 to £40 per person all be it Buccaneer on the sea from do a good sandwich and light option with a brew. Or alcoholic drinks .”

“Oh my, the food at The Walrus was AMAZING. We all had a Monday roast, there was a half lemon &thyme chicken, roast pork belly, and a trio roast which had the chicken, pork and a thick tender slice of beef. We thought it might be quiet being a Monday but was surprised by how busy it was at 6.30pm Beer was good too Definitely recommend”

“Came here for a roast with my closest friend and it was super. The atmosphere is bet linch at her finest with glamorous surroundings and animal prints. The roast we had was delicious. The girls who served us were delightful and couldn’t do enough for us. A gentlemen there also provided a bowl of water for our furry friend. Definitely worth visiting for a homemade meal.”

“We had an amazing time, Ash, Alex and Steve was such friendly hosts. The pub is beautiful And well maintained. The karaoke there was fantastic and we will be back again soon.”

“We held our area meeting in the room above the pub. On arrival the room was all laid out ready with water and glasses. Excellent venue to hold a meeting. Big screen to hook your laptop up to. We also had lunch there and the food was fantastic. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful from start to finish. We will definitely be returning again. Great venue. Thank you”

“Beautiful food, both in presentation and in taste. Just the right amount for a roast and everything on the plate was delicious and hot, nothing overcooked - really well put together roast. We had a chicken and a beef; other options available and also options for dietary requirements. Service was great to start but dropped off after we were served the roasts, so we ended up back at the bar to request bill. No biggy. It's a beautiful pub, warm and comfortable - very big family vibes on this Sunday we went, so if you're solo, or like us child free, bear that in mind; I rated 3/5 for atmosphere and that's entirely about personal preference not that the pub got anything wrong.”

“What a beautiful cafe and bar, to view all the wonderful cats (my favourite was Fifi so stoic and statue-like). The staff were friendly and made sure we knew all about the kitties and gave us treats to give to them. We had some cocktails which were very nice and some focaccia which was warm and crispy (yum). Would recommend if you love cats and observing their funny behaviour, very chill!”

“This place is amazing. Loved the vibe, music, and most importantly the food. We were looking for the perfect place that served breakfast; cooked for me and vegan for my wife. After looking at several places, we found Kooks. We were served by the very friendly Glyn. What arrived was knock-out (see photos). My poached eggs were perfect. Real attention to detail with the cooking. And my wife’s yoghurt and granola was exactly what she craved, but there was also a vegan cooked breakfast option. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and we’ll be going back the next time we’re in Brighton. Love love love ❤️”

The veggie options are great and diverse. The ambience in the evening is great although the music a bit loud. Great for a meal with a friend!”

“What an excellent pub! I only stumbled upon it after a hike. Brilliant selection of craft beers on draft and a couple of cask ales. Very nice beer garden below the chalk cliff. Very enjoyable chat with the friendly owner Dominic. I’ll be back!”

“We celebrated our son and future daughter in-laws engagement here. The staff were brilliant and treated them to a glass of bubbles and cute congratulations motif on their desserts. It was great to have an exclusive little room to ourselves and we felt unhurried and relaxed. Thank you”

“I think this must be fairly new as I have no recollection of this pub / restaurant. Thomas Paine has strong local connections, unlike Casta and Madge. He helped inspire the American revolutionary war and almost lost his head in the French one. Silly so and so. I had another Harvey's Sussex best bitter. One of three real ales on my visit. Very good. Up steep stairs finds a roof terrace. Must be lovely on a warm sunny day / evening. Free wifi.”

“Food was excellent and well prepared. Staff were great and very accommodating. This is a traditional pub which is reflected in the menu. There is a good selection of drinks available. Other patrons were welcoming so you don't feel that you are an outsider if you are not a regular at the establishment.”
