Cafe in Bath

“This is a review of the events space (marquee). We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary in the marquee at the Swan in Swineford, September 2024. It was a great event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We had 53 guests for a three course sit down meal with welcome drinks prior to the meal, after which the tables were cleared for dancing and a DJ. We were able to discuss and tailor our menu to suit our guests and we received many compliments on the food, which was very tasty. Our family had early access to decorate the marquee with lights, table decorations and flowers which made the marquee look beautiful and created a lovely atmosphere. We were able to return the next morning to do the take-down, there was no pressure. The only strict requirements were that music had to stop by 11:00 pm (due to neighbours) and aim to have all people off site by 11:30 pm. Lee, the manager, was very approachable. He was happy to discuss our needs and was very flexible with the layout and the menu choice. We were allowed to provide our own drinks and pay corkage as well as making use of the outside pay-bar. Staff were very friendly and seemed invested in the success of the party which made it seem like a joint effort. The marquee itself is 9 meters square and has a good-sized graveled area to the side with benches which are for sole use of the function space. The marquee is set in a large garden with outside bar, children’s play area and a carpark. We would certainly recommend the swan for family and social functions. “VERY cool experience! The dining location itself is worth the visit! We sat at a table overlooking the river and it was beautiful!! Staff were amazing, food was great, we will most definitely go back again! We both ordered chicken curry (different kinds) and they were both amazing! Worth going to!”

“I was here on a Monday and witnessed a lovely member of staff having to deal with an idiot who was stood staring at the cakes then moaned no one served him. I felt compelled to defend the staff. At times it is a thankless task but being polite costs nothing. They work long hours and it’s not their choice to make everything so expensive.”

“Baan was an absolute star and made fresh filter coffee on request. Im so used to being mugged off with excuses as it's too much bother elsewhere, but he didn't even hesitate, even humoured me with a request of pouring cream rather than milk! Thanks Baan and well done on the customer service!”

“They serve a must-try classic hot chocolate. The right balance of chocolate and milk. Not overly sweet nor too milky. It’s perfect after a walk in the chilly weather around lovely Bath. Tried their white ganache stuffed cookie, it was good but probably too sweet for my taste. Still a 5/5 classic hot chocolate for me.”

“Place is relatively new build, a couple of years, good location I would say as there is no coffee shop in the proximity. The staff are polite and respectful. The best flat white in Uk is at Costa!”

“Lovely place to stop for a cuppa if visiting the Jane Austen Centre or are just walking by. We enjoyed a nice selection of teas and scones in a period setting. The team was welcoming and accommodating. Especially nice if you’d like a quieter setting for an afternoon tea. We were able to walk in, but a booking would usually be recommended.”

“After scouring Bath for live music for NYE and failing miserably we ended up at the Devonshire Arms. A bit of a locals pub but we were accepted and greater whole heartedly. Live music was good fun although they certainly won't be going pro anytime soon! Good beer and a bit of a spread put on for NYE. Landlord made us feel very welcome and even apologised for charging us entry! Made some new friends and had a throughly enjoyable time. Would recommend!”

“Great food at great prices. The staff are very nice and hardworking, the tables are spaced out and the place is well looked after. The brownie from the kinds menu is a decent size and only £1.99! Just right if you don’t have a lot of room after the main course but still fancy something sweet.”

“We have always wanted to try this pub, as we have lived in Bath for over a year now. We came in Saturday and asked about their Sunday roast, and how the cauliflower cheese was done. Daniel said “I’ll show you” he then went into the kitchen and made his home made Yorkshire pudding and a pot of cauliflower cheese, as a taster. This was amazing, so we came back for the roast on Sunday and wasn’t disappointed the size of the plate and food was fantastic. They also put the Women’s Rugby on for us, which was a bonus. Lovely place, with friendly staff and will definitely be back. Thank you for a great experience.”

“My wife and I had a very good time at the Lamb and Lion this weekend and the staff were so caring and very accomadating to our needs whilst in a booth. we were watching football and darts during the course of Saturday and they were happy to change channels at our request. “Canon Bottomless Brunch – Fantastic Experience! We had such a great time at Canon’s bottomless brunch! The atmosphere was vibrant, the drinks kept flowing, and the food was delicious. A special shout-out to Sam, who gave us outstanding service from start to finish — friendly, attentive, and always making sure our glasses were full. He really made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun, relaxed brunch with excellent service!”

“A lovely place to stop and watch the world pass by, just by the abbey and down from the historic plane tree. Great helpings, good tea, and a lovely setting. Priced for tourists, it’s still reasonable to have afternoon tea for two here.”

“Beautiful shop and lovely, helpful staff! I really appreciated their wide range of gluten free products - I just had one of their gluten free chocolate orange friands …. I think possibly the best GF treat I’ve ever had! It is quite pricey but worth it - picked up a rewards card while we were there as I know we’ll be back! And, if you’re interested, a huge Diddly Squat section!”

“Yesterday, Sunday 10/08/25, we booked a table for 7 for Sunday family Birthday lunch. Abby and the Swan Inn team were so friendly and accomodating. The Roasts were great, 6 large roasts dinners and one GF Roast for our eldest son. Drinks served at just the right times and the serving staff checking on our requirements. We had our 7 week old Grandson with us and the staff were excellent in their attentive care and we all enjoyed very good deserts afterwards. We are now regulars to The Swan Inn and highly recommend it for family and friends meals. Thanks, The Davey and Lawrence families.”

“I've been in here a quite few times, and I really enjoyed the mango sunrise drink. It's very refreshing. Food is good very tasty, with lots of places to sit down or a few seating areas outside on a nice sunny day. Definitely recommend popping in and having lunch it's really lovely. Definitely going back to try other food and drinks.”

“Three of us arrived for Friday evening supper. Young but very attentive serving staff, who looked after us beautifully. We started with the sharers board with a side of the crispy chicken. This was followed by a signature burger which was well cooked, good onion rings and crispy chips. We also had the fish and chips, we decided to have the extra bread and butter and scampi, we probably wouldnt do that again. The fish was tasty and well cooked. The final meal was the smothered chicken. This was rather over cooked and dry but a good flavour. I probably just had bad luck. The pub is welcoming and you are always comfortable there. It suits all ages, the parking is good the location is amazing. I would certainly recommend it.”

“Really lovely little pub/hotel. Was slightly dated building so the room we had on the third floor shook when a big vehicle drove past, but the traffic died down in the evening. Was a good accomodation and would stay again. Drinks and food were good too”

“This pub was very convenient to our hotel, so we visited a few times during our stay in Bath. Lots of little rooms and seating options. My friend loved the Greene King mac and cheese.”

“A great place for people watching. Large outdoor patio. Limited indoor seating. No food that I’m aware of. Like everyone else says “good Guinness.”
