“Good selection of four rotating beers, plus a well stocked fridge. Also sells a wide variety of lilleys ciders and local gins. Located centrally in spondon right next to the bus stop. Serves small nibble by very friendly staff. Would highly recommend. We are here every week.”

“I was visiting Barnes with my kids to explore the lovely Wetlands site, and my 15-year-old discovered this amazing café-bakery on Instagram, The Base, right in the heart of the village. OMG, what a find! The place is beautiful, the food absolutely delicious, and the prices are great value. I wish we had somewhere like this where I live! The friendly waiter told us that all the breads and cakes are made in-house, and even their coffee is roasted on-site. You can really taste the difference. Congratulations to everyone behind this wonderful business, it’s clear how much love and hard work has gone into creating such a special place.”

“Came here for breakfast with my son and friends. Had such a good experience. Lots of space considering it’s a boat and staff were super friendly and lovely. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Would definitely come back to try the afternoon tea. Dog allowed too which is great!”

“Great place, great owners. We are a little bais as we do know them if fact my wife used to work with one of them, that said; the food is always freshly cooked and hot. The will do whatever it takes to make you happy and they make occasion cakes, we have tried their Angle Cakes and they are good. All in all nothing bad to say about the owners, food or establishment. Christmas menu is up, Stocking Stuffer, super tasty and about the size of my head. Winner Winner Christmas Dinner.”

“We were hoping for something a little different for a treat and after finding this place rang before ordering to check they could accommodate a very picky child. They were incredibly friendly and polite on the phone, the food was still hot when it arrived and was packaged really well (even the hot chocolate survived an uber driver getting lost). It was absolutely delicious, roasts were crispy,meat melted in your mouth, and the gravy and Yorkshires were perfect. Honestly couldn't fault a thing if we wanted to.”

“Came in here Sunday night purely for the Toffanilla as I saw it on the Real Ale Finder app. Got speaking to the landlord about the porter and he told me the history behind it. Probably one of the best porter’s I’ve ever had. Exceptional. So glad I went. Lovely place and a lovely welcoming landlord. Will try and get back at the weekend, just for that porter!”

I had a steak which was cooked perfectly and the chips and onion rings were amazing. The rest of the meals were great and it's a lovely atmosphere and the staff were lovely. “Four of us went for breakfast, arriving at around 0930hrs. It was busier than we expected, but we got a table next to the cakes, which looked lovely. Our orders were a vegetarian breakfast, Avocat des Oeufs and two Derbyshire Oat Cakes. The two who ordered the Oat Cakes wanted scrambled eggs and mushroom, which wasn't on the menu, but this wasn't an issue at all, they were happy to do it (a sign that they are actually making the food freshly, not just opening packets, methinks). One of our party accidentally put chocolate powder on their poached egg, thinking it was pepper. This was replaced by a fresh egg with no hesitation by the staff, they even removed the egg and muffin from the plate, brought the unaffected egg/muffin back so it could be eaten at the same time as the rest of us, and then arrived with the replacement egg when it was ready. This is the sort of service you want everywhere, Even though they were really busy, every table was occupied, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The food was really good too, and not expensive. Four breakfasts, four hot drinks, £40 (just under!) Definitely recommend, definitely going again next time we're in the area. Six or seven stars.....”

“Stayed her one night, also had dinner and breakfast Accommodation was first rate starting with a warm greeting. The room was well appointed, clean and quiet. Would definitely stay here again. The dinner was top notch gastropub with great service and food. The bar well stocked with great wines and real ales. Breakfast was amazing and well beyond the normal fry. Would definitely eat here again.”

“A cute cafe, not very busy, lovely spot to get some breakfast/lunch. The portions are massive and reasonably priced. Staff are really friendly. We ordered the vegetarian breakfast and the club sandwich, both were great. Club sandwich chicken was quite peppery so would avoid it if you don’t like pepper.”
