“A long drive up to Glasgow earlier and a few jobs before heading to Edinburgh for tonights hotel, checked in and ordered food from here off Just Eat. Then I read some previous reviews and cringed whilst waiting for the delivery. The driver arrived and gave me a quick call as requested and due to covid restrictions I met him in the car park, very friendly guy. Back to the room, opened the food which was perfectly hot and tucked in.. I travel alot weekly eating in and ordering out at many places and I can honestly say this is a good chinese that serves delicious food, ignore the past negative reviews and give them a try..”
“This is our fav Chinese takeaway for years. The staff are nice, the food is great. My personal recommendation : fried rice, kung po chicken, salt and pepper chicken, vegetables spring rolls, prawn crackers. Hope this is useful”
“Ordered Salt/Chilli Chips & Duck with Shoots/Chestnuts for collection- was not disappointed. The duck was firm and tasty, paired vegetables and a delicate sauce- the combination tasted real and had a silken texture to it all. As I collected, it was all still piping hot throughout and fresh. I've had chips on a takeout many times, and I have to admit that these were the best Salt/Chilli chips I've ever had (though they often go under the name of Salt/Pepper but they're the same thing.) Collecting has its bonuses- they were freshly made fries with a nice crispy snap to them- none of that soggy stuff you often get on a takeout. All in all, damned delicious and I'll definitely come back in the future next time I order a takeaway. (FYI I really do recommend the duck with shoots/chestnuts- it's not sweet, it's very much savoury, and to me at least it felt as though it didn't have many additives that you might often find in a takeout- no absurd sugaring, not overly seasoned, just genuinely made homely food.)”
“Best Chinese take away in West Lothian in my opinion, we order here a lot and the food is always consistently amazing and flavourful! Delicious vegetarian options like crispy tofu, crispy spring rolls and amazing egg fried rice. Have heard nothing but good things from meat eater family members, but at least for veggies I can say it's my favourite Chinese to order from. Satay sauce is the best, not too sweet like some places make it and has a lovely nutty flavour as it's meant to be. The veg they use is fresh and perfectly cooked - can't fault this place one bit. Will always be our staple Chinese take away.”
“Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. We are regular customers and have never been disappointed, the food is always fresh, tasty and hot. Extremely highly recommended”
“Delicious, high quality (not greasy) Chinese food. Not many like it in my experience. Was very happy with my Tofu and rice dish. Would it be possible to label all the Vegan dishes online, as I accidentally ordered rice with egg. Thanks Hui!”
“It was my first time in Musselburgh and I went to the first nearby Chinese takeaway. The service was very nice and friendly. The food came fast and was really warm, good portion sizes, and most importantly it was delicious! I would recommend and honestly it's better than 80% places that I've been too. Thank you.”
“Best meal I had in Edinburgh. The menu was so tempting I had to have three courses — at lunch. The server was wonderful too, with her excellent recommendations and general welcoming vibe.”
“Good food, guick service, a little too hot in the restaurant but overall very nice, complements to the chef and Kasia who served me.”
“The food was incredible, the service was very efficient and fast. The space was cosy and quaint. I ordered chicken chinese mushroom udon noodles with a fried egg and they were absolutely amazing, probably the best I have ever had. I was so impressed with the portion and it left me full for the rest of the day!”
“Wow.. where do you start when everything was just perfect? The restaurant is set in what originally was a fine house with high ceilings, beautiful ceiling cornices, and a twist of Scotland added to the lovely Chinese decor. Staff... wonderful, very attentive, and you can tell they are proud of what they do, and really made it a nice evening. Food... OMG, probably the best I have had, certainly cannot think of a better one. I can highly recommend the King Prawn Satay. Just perfect on the spice heat, and soo delicious. My wife said her beef Lar Chee was really good as well. This restaurant is certainly worth travelling for, can highly recommend this restaurant. Definitely a 5 * experience. I only added photos of our desserts.. photos wouldn't do the starters and mains any justice. Thank you Cool Jade !”
“The food is always 10/10. Never disappoints. You know you will get value for your money and delicious food every time”
“Perfect gem of a restaurant tucked away in Edinburgh. Came in on a whim and it is one of our fave places. The dry rub is exceptional and the bbq sauce is a perfect compliment. The staff are phenomenal and could not do enough to help. Would give 10/10 if i could.”
“Everything was great, can't ask for more, I will come back again.”
“Thank god I found this restaurant after a days walk… the food is HIGHLY AUTHENTIC! I love it so much and one of the best valued meal we have in Edinburgh.. I was so stuffed afterwards and it is less than 40 pounds for 2 people. If I ever come back to Edinburgh I would definitely go again!”
“Given the name, it’s no surprise that the dumplings are the main draw — and they’re excellent. The rainbow selection is an easy choice if you want to try a bit of everything, and every variety earns its place on the plate. Consistently well made, they’re the reason to come here.”
“The food here is always a really high standard and the team are friendly, service with a smile every time. So many dishes on the menu I could recommend, top favourites are the chilli garlic squid, the gyozas, haggis wontons and the jhei cauliflower.”
“Stopped in on the way home for work for a rare and week earned treat. Firstly, the hygiene rules are being meticulously followed. There is a table at the entrance with hand sanitizer and paper menus. Clean your hands, pick up your own menu (and take it home with you) then place your order at the counter. Once the food is cooked, they'll even bring it to your car for you. The food is is usual amazing quality. I had what is probably my favourite dish from any restaurant anywhere, got sand duck. My wife has crispy chili beef whenever we have Chinese food. We had Singapore rice noodles and bed noodles. The quality was excellent as usual. Can't wait until we can go and have a proper sit down meal with them. This is one of the hidden gems of Edinburgh. And whilst I know saying this might persuade hundreds of new people to visit and make it hard for us to get a table, they really deserve it, and you'll never be disappointed!”
“So I tried Chef Chi after reading reviews and I wasnt disappointed. I ordered a lemon chicken dish & salt & chilli chicken dish, both were lovely. I went in to order my meal & Emma, who took the order, was really lovely, polite and thorough when taking the order. It was a 30min wait but I can accept that, it was busy, a Friday night & its clearly a very popular takeaway!! I'll be ordering from there again. Update: 15th August, I phoned in an order, the lady taking the order was so lovely, upbeat & chatty, really lifted my mood. I was a pest, phoning to change my order but nothing was a problem to her. The food, chicken & cashew nut, fried rice, chilli chips, curry sauce, noodles & sweet n sour sauce was really nice, not too salty, not too bland, plenty cashews which other takeaways scrimp on and plentiful portions. Second time here and yes I'd recommend and yes, il be back.”
“Very nice garlic beef broth noodle dish. Tender beef, amazing noodles, not sure if they were made by them but they definitely tasted like it. The service was very good as well. I like that it’s a place which is simple, clean and with great food. Looking forward to go back and try something different on the menu as, when I left, the cook was making a stir fry and it smelled amazing”
“First visit to this restaurant after a recommendation by friends Arrived without a reservation and the staff couldn’t have been nicer, needed table back in 1hr 20mins and that was fine because service was super quick Food was freshly cooked, hot and quite tasty although we weren’t overly impressed with the quality of the meat in the beef and black bean & the fillet steak Cantonese! Unfortunately I’ve had better many times so probably wouldn’t rush back. Nice enough but I do think there are better Chinese restaurants”
“Delicious, fresh and authentic food. Plated beautifully, and the server was so lovely, friendly and fast service, lovely decor and atmosphere in the restaurant. Definitely recommend eating here for authentic tastes. I'll be going back.”
“Lovely ambiance and the food is great! I'm always looking forward to eat here whenever I visit Edinburgh”
“Spent £10 for fish and chips which was totally worth it! We absolutely loved it and think that it's probably the best we've had! Highly recommend!!”
“We were looked after wonderfully by the team - charcuterie board of dreams (even though they’d stopped serving) and a lovely bottle of red. Thank you for looking after two exhausted Mums so kindly!”
“Three words. Get the duck. The takeout duck appetizer is delicious, filling, and inexpensive considering how much you get. I know it's meant to be shared, but sometimes I just want to have a night alone in my flat watching a movie after a long day without having to cook. The people at the counter are super chill, too. When I went here most frequently, the digital payments were being weird, so they only took cash. I never carry cash with me in the UK, but this was totally worth asking a friend to exchange for.”
“Not since I had noodles hand pulled in front of me in Hong Kong have they tasted this good. Kudos to the owner for being a one man show! Two types of dumplings were also superb.”
“First time ordering here, the woman on the phone was a delight and happy to explain all the other meal options over the phone. Quick service at good affordable prices and great customer service.”
“Expected basic takeaway fare but could sit in and eat. Had salt and chilli ribs that were excellent. Nice service too.”
