“It was a really good way to spend an hour. There are different floors set in different time periods of the building with guides on each floor giving a bit of history. You can touch most things and I got to try on the bonnets which is a nice touch. There are even costumes for adults and children to try out. And the ceiling they uncovered during restoration looks amazing and very detailed.”
“I stayed in the Juniperlea Inn for 1 night this week. I found the staff and owner very helpful and lovely to deal with. Food was to a very good standard, room was lovely and well presented. Although the main road is nearby the room itself was quiet and you couldn't hear any traffic. I would definitely book again!”
“I slept for only one night and it was nice. Cool place, quiet and people were respectful. As in all places in scotland, it is cold inside in winter and I was not able to get free towel after 22. Deffinitely recommend staying here!”
“Couldn't have been better if we'd tried! What an absolute gem of a restaurant. The food. The foooooooood! It was *chef's kiss*. Literally. The serving staff were delightfully charming, and the atmosphere is simply perfect. I could see myself hiding down there on a cold winter's night. Do yourself a favour and get the haggis starter. You won't find better haggis anywhere, I can promise you that. It was just perfection. Slightly peppery, topped with a sauce of happiness. You can't go wrong. And the filet was divine. It comes with the best fried potato I've ever had. Full stop. Just get in here and enjoy. Oh and get the paloma. It's decadent but light and refreshing all at the same time.”
“What a great menu of food, the staff are very warming and great with the Indian and Nepalese knowledge of cuisine. We had Chicken Pakora and Onion Baji to start then a Lamb Chasni and Chicken Tikka Khardhi. Dishes were well presented and tasted amazing”
“Stayed in the single room - great for solo travelers who don’t want to pay the expensive Edinburgh prices. The house is old and charming, very clean. The room was small which was perfect for just me. It was quiet. I never saw staff besides when I checked in. Did not get breakfast since it was an additional fee. Very close to multiple bus stops.”
“I had a lovely stay at this comfortable guesthouse. The room was both spotlessly clean and a very cosy, homey kind of space. It was also very quiet; I slept brilliantly the whole time I was there! The tea, coffee, and biscuits in the room were much appreciated. All in all, it had everything I needed, and I'd definitely look to see if they have any vacancies the next time I'm visiting Edinburgh - I'd very happily be a guest at Strathallan guesthouse again. Additionally, as a solo female traveller, it's important to me that I'm staying in an area that feels "safe". Happy to report that I felt very safe walking around this part of town.”
“Our kids (boy 11 and girl 14 years) were impressed how the imaginative and creative SJM teachers managed to involve kids, how fast the kids progressed. They easily made friends and enjoyed the breaks in between. We as parents adored the final show - well done and very entertaining. Communication has always been excellent, thanks a lot, Stephen. We highly recommend this SJM activity for a summer program.”
“We had a 3 night stay to visit Edinburgh. There was off road parking available and so we made use of the regular bus service into the city centre. There was also a shop and post office within easy walking distance. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. The room was kitted out with all the basics needed to make your stay comfy. We had our spaniel Harvey with us. There was a large park close by for walkies. The busses were dog freindly as were many of the pubs and cafés in the city. Highly recommend this homestay for an affordable city break.”
“We had an exceptional stay in Scotland thanks to Nicolas and Anastassia, who were able to listen to our wishes and prepare a tailor-made itinerary for us over 7 days. With our two children aged 8 and 5, we visited Loch Lomond, the Isle of Mull via the ferry to Oban, Fort William, Pitlochry, and Edinburgh. Always available and responsive, we communicated very easily in all circumstances. Their experience allowed us to discover splendid places and very pleasant addresses. We returned with stars in our eyes! THANK YOU!”
“I started adult group classes around a year a go. I wanted to get fit whilst having fun and learning a new skill and aerial has been perfect. My strength and flexibility has greatly improved, my confidence is up and I feel great about my body. I still attend adult group classes and have recently started taking private lessons to further my skills in silks and aerial hoop.”
“Surprisingly large room with plenty of space and amenities. Incredible value with faultless service from the host who was continually attentive to all of our needs. Free parking right outside and easy access to public transport into the centre. A comfortable and clean room in an establishment that I will 100% recommend to anyone travelling to Edinburgh.”
“The owner is the most genuinely nice Scotsman to chat too! Extremely knowledgeable about the area oh and did I mention how awesome his stuff is? I bought a very cool large Thor statue.”
“Finding the perfect ring for my fiancée felt daunting at first, especially with the limited options available in most stores. That changed completely when I discovered Denzil and his team. From the moment we connected, they offered a thoughtful, one-on-one experience that transformed the process into something truly special. Their guidance at every step was invaluable—professional, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. The result was more than just a beautiful ring; it was a magical moment brought to life by true experts who genuinely care about their craft. Working with them was an absolute pleasure.”
“Everything was great! People and rooms were lovely, though the stranger outside asking for cigarettes was a little odd.”
“Really great service from Alice and Kevin. Our train up from London had been delayed massively due to issues which meant we arrived very late at night. They arranged to pick us up from the station. Really friendly and a good place to stay. Room was comfortable and breakfast delivered to the door.”
“We had a fantastic time ! Our bedroom was lovely and very comfy. The house is not in the city centre but there's a bus stop just outside the door. The breakfast buffet was amazing and the hostess super helpful. Definitely will stay there again!”
“A hidden gem in a place to stay while in Edinburgh.”
“Best dude ever Joey is an absolute character, his amazing creations adorn the walls of his studio/shop. It's like entering a museum! He creates whacky clothes and sofas and bags with recycled materials and bits and bobs you wouldn't expect! What's created is a unique and unusual item that no one will ever have. Huge hidden gem in Edinburgh Even visiting the shop is a must see”
“A pleasant path for walking and running. It can get a bit crowded on sunny days, making it a little too narrow for comfortable running, but overall it’s a beautiful walk.”
“Great garage well priced. Very helpfull and even when busy the will try to acmodate you or help you”
“Had a lovely night away. Fantastic views. Friendly highland cows. Lodge was very clean. Would stay again”
“We had a wonderful stay at The Bridge Inn in Ratho this past September. This charming canal-side inn is a hidden gem just outside Edinburgh and near the airport, offering the perfect blend of peaceful countryside atmosphere and excellent hospitality. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated with lovely views of the Union Canal. The inn has that cozy, traditional Scottish pub feel that makes you instantly feel comfortable and at home. The location right on the canal made for a truly serene setting, especially waking up to the peaceful waterside views. One of the highlights of our stay was our leisurely walk along the Union Canal towpath. The canal walk from Ratho is absolutely beautiful, with tranquil waters reflecting the sky and lush greenery lining the path. We strolled for miles, enjoying the peaceful countryside, watching narrowboats glide by, and spotting ducks and swans along the way. It was the perfect way to unwind and escape the bustle of the city while still being so close to Edinburgh. Dinner at The Bridge Inn's restaurant was fantastic! The menu featured delicious Scottish fare with a modern twist, all made with fresh, quality ingredients. We enjoyed Steak pie and Fish & Chips. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and inviting, with attentive service from the friendly staff who made excellent recommendations. The combination of comfortable accommodation, stunning canal-side location, wonderful walks, and excellent dining made our stay at The Bridge Inn truly memorable. It's an ideal spot for anyone looking to experience the Scottish countryside while staying close to Edinburgh and to the airport.”
“Made two of our evenings in Edinburgh memorable with great service and a friendly, helpful guidance about beer locality and flavor profiles. Food is not rated because we didn't order food outside of some fries, which were great. Will return as soon as we're back in Edinburgh.”
“Beautiful venue to attend a concert. The only issue it was too hot and they didn't have AC, I know it's Scotland and many places don't have AC, apart from that beautiful place.”
“Had a great night and easy to travel to via the tram.”
“Great accommodation, easy and a good location”
“Beautiful view at night and nice street art along the canal ✨”
“Such a beautiful location. We had the castle view and it was awesome! But what made our trip was the front desk - Alasdair! My mother and I loved him. He is very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and we always hoped he was at the front desk when we came by. We will book again just for him because he truly loves his job/Edinburgh and you feel it from the moment he greets you!”
“We stayed at Motel One Edinburgh-Royal in The One with View room, and it was absolutely perfect. The view was breathtaking — exactly what I had hoped for when planning our trip. After arriving from London, stepping into that room instantly washed away the fatigue and made me smile. The location couldn’t have been more convenient: just steps from Waverley Station, close to the airport bus stop, and within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile and other main attractions. Whether travelling by train, bus, or plane, this hotel is ideally situated — for us, having arrived by train and flying out later, it couldn’t have been more perfect. The hotel was stylish, peaceful, and comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, and check-in was effortless after a long journey. As a non-native speaker, I wish I could’ve expressed my gratitude to them more fully in person — they truly made our stay wonderful. I’d love to return to the same room on my next visit to Edinburgh.”
