“Visited today and was blown away. I had a full service which involved hair cut, cut throat razor shave, eyebrow trim, flames and a hot towel. The whole experience (and it was an experience) was great and I left feeling like a new man. I've only ever been to traditional barbers before and can say this was miles apart. I will be returning monthly for a full treat. Cannot recommend enough.”

“We stayed at St. George's guesthouse for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The room was nicely furnished, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and modern. The host was very helpful and approachable, and there was plenty of on-site parking available. The guesthouse is a straight 30-minute walk to the city centre, so an ideal place for visitors to York who want a quiet place to stay. We will be sure to visit this guesthouse again.”

“Beautiful room, great location. Had a lovely overnight during our 2 week UK trip. We stayed in the 4 poster room - bed could have been a little more comfortable (thin mattress, no boxspring), but the room is sweet and the bathroom was nice and modernized with a spacious shower. The location is unbeatable - on a lovely quiet historic street while still being super close to the train station and great walking distance to the center. Self check in was seamless and easy. Would definitely recommend!”

“What an amazing place to stay, rooms are to a very high standard as train carriages quirky and amazing. Staff are very friendly and the service is second to none. The food here is absolutely amazing, me and my wife had an amazing stay would recommend and we will be back.”

“Value. The Merchant Adventurers Hall has to be a must-see location for York. From the condition of the building, to the layout of what you see to the shop and cafe to the admission price it's the top tourist attraction for the price. I highly recommend the food in the cafe and suggest you plan on eating there after visiting. I think my favorite thing was the amazing run of years of continuous use and care provided for this magnificent building.”

“All the staff we met was absolutely great, friendly and helpful. We never eat here other then breakfast which was delicious and a fair choice and we actually got to see the kitchen area and it was spotlessly clean and the breakfast service spot on. The room we had was clean and comfortable which is all you really need only niggle I had was TV in the room was tiny for the distance it's mounted to the top of the bed where you sit to watch it's not the best, but thats just for us.”

“Home from home and will be back! Lovely, friendly, helpful, genuine staff that work hard and are a credit to The Minster. Rooms clean and more than sufficient. Very happy with the bed and had an excellent sleep! Breakfast plentiful with prompt and friendly service. The location is a 10 min walk from train station and 5 min walk to the Shambles. Loved it!”

“Quirky and fun! The decor is all kinds of classic English history with a hearty splash of irreverence, split across a couple buildings that feel like homes rather than a hotel. The room itself was small, but that suited me perfectly — great for a solo traveller. Only thing to note is I’m somewhat tall for a woman and on that bed I just about could touch my toes to the window sill while my head was by the headboard. I thought it was quite fun but taller people might want to take note. Everything was neat and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The walls are a little thin, like in any old house, so you can hear some bustling in the morning, but I personally found that endearing. The staff were very kind and friendly, and even introduced me to the hotel cat, Teddy! The location is great, just a 10-15 minute walk to the centre of town. I come through York frequently so I can say with certainty and delight that I’ll be staying here again! Thanks again to the staff for a lovely experience.”

“Lovely Shop, staff are very friendly and professional, the samples are what kept me there and leaving with a New lovely Single Malt. Such a great way to find a Whiskey that suits your pallet, tasting the different choices available was lovely”

“Great location and atmosphere! We were here for a family birthday (party of 7) on a busy Sunday. Food was not only more than great but served altogether in a timely manner. Everyone including the kids enjoyed there food with enough choice to suit everyone. Staff were attentive and polite. Overall great experience!”

“Excellently located near to both the railway station and city centre. A lovely warm reception was given and our room was just what was needed. Very clean, comfy bed, fridge & refreshments and plenty of sockets to charge the gadgets! A lovely 5 minute walk along the river and you’re in the city.”

“Wow. This was our first visit and won't be our last! The restaurant is beautiful, the staff are amazing and the food was perfect. We visited as two adults and two kids and the staff were fantastic with the kids, making them laugh and including them in the ordering process. The portions were extremely generous and every bring was fresh, hot and full of flavour. There honestly isn't a bad thing to say about this place, even the toilets are pretty!!”

“Great apartment. Perfect for a couple of days away! Clean and well presented. Bed was really comfortable. Walking distance to York center. Only slight negative was it does get hot on the warmer days with not much option to ventilate. Easily fixed by going out and enjoying York in the sun. We will be re booking again definitely.”

“We purchased a YO1 Middleton's afternoon tea voucher for four people. The tea was excellent, the gentleman who served us was friendly, professional and welcoming even though he was busy, it was much appreciated. The finger sandwhiches were fresh and tasty, ham and lettuce, cheese and pickle and salmon and cream cheese. The fruit scones were warm and tasty, especially when the jam and cream were added. The selection of cakes was great, macaroons, brownies and other cakes. A very nice experience as a couple or when shared with friends. Many thanks to our host/waiter for making us feel valued customers.”

“I had a lovely stay at The Grange Lodge in York. The location is perfect—peaceful and tucked away, yet just a short walk from the heart of the city. It was the ideal base for exploring York’s historic streets. What really stood out, though, was the room service: consistently prompt, thoughtful, and delivered with a genuine warmth that made the experience feel truly welcoming. It’s the kind of place that strikes the right balance between comfort and convenience. I’d be very happy to return on a future visit.”

“Gorgeous little coffee shop right near the Shambles Market, and the perfect place to escape a cold York afternoon and warm yourself with a hot beverage. The Bailey's hot chocolate really hit the spot, and my partner really enjoyed his bacon and brie toastie. The vibe is cosy and perfect for parties of 2, but seating is limited at lunchtime, especially for parties any larger than 4. Many parties of 3 or more were getting turned away or split over multiple tables.”

“Just had a meal here. Food was excellent,maybe the best we have had on our visit to York.I had the homemade steak&ale pie and my wife lasagne.Plenty to eat on the plate. Staff friendly and cheerful. Might go back tomorrow evening. Would recommend to all.”

“My boyfriend and I came here for a few drinks after travelling 4 hours. We couldn't have asked for a better place! Absolutely wonderful pub, couldn't fault the place whatsoever. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and very clean. Will definitely be coming back!”

“I have been here twice this year, both times the food was excellent and the staff were lovely. The restaurant itself is nice and has a great view of the river. What more can you ask for? As well as this I am lactose intolerant which can cause problems when eating out, however at this restaurant they have an entire vegan menu and they will adapt pizzas to make them lactose free. The pizza dough recipe here does not contain milk. The staff here take intolerances seriously and are very helpful when you have questions. In my experience, some restaurants act inconvenienced or do not understand when you have a dietary requirement, but I can eat at this restaurant with confidence as I know that the food will not upset my stomach whatsoever which is rare as I have a stomach condition on top of lactose intolerance. They have amazing vegan garlic bread, even my partner was impressed with it. The vegan cheese that they use is really good too, unlike most places. This is our go-to restaurant now in York and I highly recommend it.”

“Clean, comfortable and spacious room. Well supplied with tea, coffee and milk and also shower gels shampoos and conditioner in the bathroom. We arrived slightly before the official check-in time, but we were quickly shown to our room without any issues. Just a 20 minute walk to the racecourse in one direction and a 15 minute walk to central York the other way (with some nice, independent suburban shops to browse in on the way). Good value for money. No complaints.”

“Canny little place to stay, self contained/ self catering accommodation, has everything you need. Really cheap considering there is cooker, washer/ dryer, microwave, fridge, tv,WiFi and more and obviously bed, wardrobe etc and your bathroom. Staff and owner are extremely pleasant and helpful and the owner will go out of his way to accommodate you. Self check in, with info messaged to you on the day nearer the time of check in. It's a real easy process. City centre is only a few minutes drive or an easy short bus/ taxi ride. I've stayed here a few times and will continue to book here when I'm in Leeds.”

“Stayed for two nights and was not disappointed. The room was large and spacious with a king sized sleigh bed (so anyone over six feet tall can comfortably stretch out) and bathroom with roll-top bath and period fixtures and fittings. There were also high ceilings due to the era this property is from and the decor has been kept pretty much in keeping with that time period so it has a nice atmosphere. The breakfast was excellent, extremely tasty and well presented, the service was first rate and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.”

When you arrive, a wonderful basket with all kinds of goodies awaits you. A house set up for a friend's trip. A short walk down to the historic center, the scale is humane and warm and the houses beautiful and fun little shops and bustling people.”

“Easy to deal with the owner. Very clean, modern kitchen, decent hot water (England, cmon) and the room was very nicely decorated. I felt right at home.”

“I stayed at Dimond Villa and overall had a pleasant experience. The room was clean and comfortable, though it would have been better if basic toiletries like a toothbrush had been provided. The location is a bit far from the city center, but that also makes it peaceful and quiet—perfect if you want to relax away from the crowds. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, especially with my late check-in, which I really appreciated.”
