Fine dining experiences for two in Liverpool

“We love the Vale Royal Abbey Arms because it’s a large, well-managed pub in a good location, with plenty of parking. Our dog loves it because there’s usually plenty of space in the dog-friendly dining areas and there’s even a dog menu and doggy treat station. The food is very good - I’m a particular fan of the steak and ale pie, and you can have a miniature dessert and coffee if you’ve not got room for a large portion. The service is excellent. We have been looked after several times by Ben - who is particularly thoughtful and efficient.”

“Visited for a family event. We were in the upstairs event room. The outdoor terrace had stunning views over the golf course and beyond - so lucky to have such a sunny day, we could see Wales. The bar was well stocked with a great selection of beers and wines at very reasonable prices. Staff were very accommodating and happy to help.”

“Absolutely love it here, booths have had a refresh as well. Whenever we go we pick something different, and every time it's been great. Meals are tasty unlike some other restaurants which can be bland with the creamy dishes. All dishes taste completely different, not samey like most places. Highly recommend!”

“21ST MAY 2025. Wandering Wednesday’ took Hubby Neil and I, just a few miles down the road in Lowton to…….. ‘The Travellers Rest’, there are so many places we have passed over the years and never ventured in side, as we’ve always tended to eat on our door step or simply returned with the pubs we liked….. this is definitely one of those pub ‘Gems’ that we have missed out on over the years….. inside the decor is tastefully done and the restaurant was pristine. Our servers today were Destiny, Dylan, Catherine and Kay, they were all very polite, smiley, professional and attentive, they gave a great all round service….. also a big shout out to the chefs in the background, your food presentation was perfect, all the dishes were delicious and piping hot….. Thank you, you are all massive credit to this establishment. Staters: We both had the same, which was Crispy Black Pudding & Bacon Stack, served on a Bubble & Squeak cake and drizzled with a creamy peppercorn sauce, garnished with pea shoots…. Entrée’s: Neil had a fillet of Salmon, with asparagus, lay on a bed of mixed salad, along with hot new potatoes and all drizzled with a creamy dill dressing…. I had: Homemade Pie and Chips….. Chicken, Bacon & Vegetable pie, served with triple cooked chips, accompanied with seasonal vegetables of tenderstem broccoli, sliced leek, green beans and proper thick, rich gravy…. The pie was filled to the brim with big chunks of the filling and again everything was piping hot…. So tasty. We shared sliced white bloomer and butter, even the bread was light and fluffy! So the question is? Would we go back???? At the drop of a hat!! 100% YES!”

“I would recommend booking before arriving for a Sunday roast as this place was absolutely buzzing! The soup of the day was melt in your mouth delicious and flavoured perfectly! We tried the chicken, pork and beef roasts. They were equally amazing. I preferred the chicken as it came with crispy skin. The pork came with wonderful crackling if that's your bag. You cannot leave here without having pudding. The brownie, cheesecake and toffee pudding were out of this world. The kitchen is on point with timing and the wait staff did them proud despite how busy it was. Lovely, warm, welcoming and worth a visit for sure. You won't regret it!”

“Centrally located beautiful south indian food restaurant. We went here on weekday evening. Didnt realise but it was a nice candle lit fine dining restaurant. Staff was very well aware of the dishes and recommended some amazing dishes. We tried Chicken 65, Beef, Kerala parotta, lamb curry, kothu parotta. Amazing flavour and well spiced.”

“Lovely experience! Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, genuinely lovely people! The food was also amazing best Indian we have had. The lady that served us recommended a new curry for us to try and we are so glad she did as this may be our new favourite! She even gave us a piece of birthday cake she had made which was delicious and very kind of her. We will 100% be visiting again. Definitely recommend!!!”

“My Husband and I had lunch here. The decor is really nice. The food is very very good. The lunch options are really good value. There is no difference in the quality of food between separate menu items and the lunch menus just the portion size is a little smaller. The staff here are lovely they really want you to have a great experience and nothing is too much trouble. A real find we are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you”

“We ate 2 pizzas. 2pizzas for 20£ is pretty good. Then with the added 3£ for fries, that gives you a good lazy dinner. Open on Easter Monday, they still made food even when Tesco's was closed.”

“We booked the Private Dining Room on Sunday to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. There were 18 of us in total. We had a great relaxing time, as we were not rushed in anyway. The food was to an excellent standard. delicious and served hot to everyone at the same time. The staff especially Ellie were very friendly, efficient and couldn't do enough to make everyone welcome and looked after. We had lots of compliments about the meals, the venue and the staff. The room was lovely with lovely views over the garden. We could not find a fault with anything and would encourage anyone looking for a venue for their event not to hesitate booking Rake Hall.”

“I’ve been in recently for a couple of drinks. The pub is well presented, with clearly a lot of effort going in to its decoration. The staff are quite attentive for a busy pub and they’ve foster a nice atmosphere The manager was about and seemed to be really knowledgeable about his ales. I didn’t have any food but I would come back for some in the future.”

“Visited here instead of the Hoole village one as it was fully booked on Sunday. What a breath of fresh air, no staff running around like the place is on fire. Host when we entered was very chatty and friendly. Doesn’t feel cramped at all compared to hoole, no massive queue for the carvery either, all in all for a family get together it was lovely relaxed and would definitely visit again instead of the Chester one.”
