“Great for younger children. Animals are obviously well cared for (although lots of caged birds and ducks some people may not like). Reasonably priced entry with lots of opportunities to pet and feed the animals. 3 members of staff actively stopped to talk to us about the animals they were caring for which was nice. Wide variety of animals including a Barn owl, ferrets, pigs, sheep, goats, alpacas, canaries, donkeys, hens, peacocks and (rescued) parrots. 2 good playgrounds and a small indoor soft play. The food in the cafe was OK. Menu catered well for dietary requirements. No picnics allowed FYI. We were there for 4 hours including food and feeding the lambs so all in all a good day out.”

“Went in not expecting to get the items I wanted l, but I was pleasantly surprised they had it. The guy who served me was very helpful with his knowledge and expertise. And made a few suggestions to make the job better. Even opened the item to show me how it was to be used. A credit to the shop. Well done.”

“The boy's 6th birthday. Loads to do and they all had tons of fun. The staff were really good and friendly. The manager/chef in the cafe was super helpful and a credit to the business. Nice coffee also. It was cold sitting around but that was an advantage to the kids jumping and running around. So wrap up if you're sat waiting for the kids. Nice for parties as they have little private party rooms. Recommended as it was a good all-around experience with loads to keep them occupied.”

“Good quality accommodation at a reasonable price. The YHA has a fab recreation room, a communal kitchen, a canteen (serving a 10/10 full English/ continental breakfast) and a onside restaurant. Its also set in the most beautiful grounds around 12-15 minutes drive from Chester.”

“Brilliant team especially Pete and Matt who helped with our order. Didn't feel hounded at all, came in twice on 2 separate weekends and Pete remembered us which was nice! Everything was explained and we were guided to different models depending on our needs. Pete had great knowledge of each range and was really patient as we changed our minds a lot! Definitely recommend!”

“A small car park, leads to a good size park. It is dog friendly. With a lovely climbing frame for children. It has a pretty lake with ducks. A good size walk area for dogs on paths and grass areas. Also seating around and nice grass areas for picnics. Could do with a few more bins. Also a good walkway for cycling around. Saw lots of bikers and dogs while we were there. Will definitely come again.”

“We came here for a surprise birthday celebration weekend and could not have asked for a better setting. The lodge was beautiful and exceeded my expectations, it was spacious, immaculate and had all the amenities required for the stay. The location was stunning coupled with the hot tub made for the perfect getaway. The available activities at the nearby Wild Shore make a fantastic addition for both couples and families who want to experience something different. We'd definitely book here again and with the addition of the lodges being dog friendly, makes it all the more exceptional.”

“Great little hidden secret right by the 2nd biggest attraction in the UK. The park has just undergone an expansion and currently waiting to flourish, don't expect to see lots of wildlife you need to have patience but there is a Hide to wait out and see if you can spot otters, kingfishers or what ever nature throws at you. Once the plots and park mature this will be a haven for wildlife. 5* because it's beautiful and quiet, nice for a picnic but if you have young kids like me maybe the zoo would be a better place for you. If you want peace and reflect or want to photograph wildlife and flowers this is the place. #getoutdoors”

“We have been coming to Chester lakes from the very start when you used to drive to your peg/camping spot. We have seen so many changes and not all for the better unfortunately. The fishing is great. Charlie and Mark are so kind and really do go above and beyond for visitors. Unfortunately camping has been limited to 4 pitches. No campervans which is sad as we used to love coming in our campervan to the woodlands. We looked into buying a caravan and leasing a pitch but was shocked at how much the owner wants. Starting at £2750 for the part where you're very close to other vans to £4000 near lake. Fees do not inc electricity and you cannot rent your van to help cover the fees. Our friends have a caravan in Barmouth with swimming pool, entertainment and beach next to site with electricity/water inc and they pay 3500 a year and can rent out. I think the rates here should inc electricity and fishing for these fees. We've had so many beautiful memories here and we're sad they'll be no campervan trips here anymore. Common wood is going to benefit massively regarding the changes Chester lakes has made reading the reviews. Real shame”
