“A charming old style British Inn. Found them through Booking.com. Came to Southwell for the wedding of a friend and needed a place to stay. The hotel is located in the middle of Southwell. It has a beautiful old-style exterior and is very quaintly decorated on the inside. The room itself was also clean, tidy, spacious and nicely furnished. The staff including reception as well as the waiters during breakfast were friendly, helpful and lovely. An interesting tidbit about the place is that it’s been around since the 17th Century and Charles II, the English King sought refuge here. Overall I had a great experience here and should I ever be staying in Southwell again I will definitely be booking a room here!”

“Restaurant was booked for a conference event so I chose to seat at the bar which was nice and quiet. Food was great and the lady who served me was very nice, friendly and accommodating.”

“Amazing lasagna, the best I've had outside of Italy. We had la zucca, butternut squash, and la romana that had the best ragu and taste. Made me think of the ragu a la bolognese you get anywhere in Bologna. Good choice of starters and deserts. We had tiramisu. Really fluffy mascarpone on top, really nice and light. I would use more coffee in the recipe though, but really good nonetheless. Like the choice of wine too. Can't wait to come again to try the other lasagna.”

“I came here after seeing the reviews. These lads dont disappoint. Great service and lots of sincere hospitality. A must visit, and experience true hospitality, which is lost in many restaurants in today's world. Great tasting food , efficiency and effective service. I would recommend Saracens to all. “Went for a bottomless brunch as usual place was fully booked and I'm glad it was! Tacos were awesome and the cocktails on the brunch menu were far beyond what I had expected. The staff were also very friendly and passionate. Would definitely go again for a brunch/some tacos and or cocktails! Best Pina Colada I've ever had!”

“Fabulous little venue with tasty food and friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to cafe roya, it was my sister’s birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make her feel special. Really appreciate small venues like this that have staff who make you feel welcome and comfortable in their restaurant. All dishes were super fresh and tasty making me want to come back for more and work my way through the menu. Along with their brilliant staff and food they make stunning cocktails which again , you can’t stop at just the one! Can’t wait to visit again, very tempted by the sound of the lunch menus!”

“Best bougatsa I've ever eaten outside of Greece itself, although even then it still rivals much of the bougatsa I ate in Thessaloniki. There is also a small but high quality import shop with high quality Greek food stuff and snacks. Will definitely be coming again, possibly to try the moussaka or Gyros. Also, customer service is second to none.”

“One of the best places in Nottingham. The ramen is brilliant, and the tempura prawns are so crispy (and a great size!) It's small, but that gives it a lovely, friendly atmosphere - definitely worth eating in if there's space.”

“Usually I don’t like pizza that has a crunch, but this pizza had the perfect crunch. I had the meathead but swapped out the ham for nduja + hoy honey drizzle. RECOMMEND Overall great experience, no complaints.”

“Dropped in with my Dad on Sunday for a cuppa but ended up having a breakfast each as well. The food was excellent all made from local tasty ingredients. The service was lovely and super friendly. Could not fault it and will defiantly be returning. It was a pleasure to spend our time and money at this establishment. So if you’re in the area give it a try you will not be disappointed. 5 stars all round Guys… thankyou”

“My husband and I did a cooking class with Hiroko today and absolutely loved it. Hiroko was so knowledgeable and friendly. She answered all of our questions, gave helpful tips and tricks, and was patient with us. We can’t believe the quality of the food we made and have already invited family round to try out our new cooking skills! We’d definitely recommend her lessons to anyone!”

“Honestly one of the best meals my partner and I have ever had. Everything is cooked fresh and the quality of the food is incredible. The service is amazing and Mimi personally welcomed and attended to us throughout and provided excellent food recommendations on what to try. Whilst the food is slightly expensive it is definitely worth it and we wouldn’t hesitate to go again and will be returning.”

Hospitality is attentive and the food served in a timely manner with no rush but enough time to relax and enjoy. Top of the bill is the service. Friendly, engaging, intelligent and know exactly how to do their job. Very good. The food is fresh and superb. Very well cooked monkfish and amazingly tasty gravy. Fresh tandoori prawns were the best for a long time. So much on the menu we could have chosen was the hardest bit of the evening. Come and enjoy a wonderful night for either a group or a couple. It works just as well for everyone.”

“I think it’s an amazing place, the band which were playing were great and really made the night special. All the waiters were very attentive with table service throughout the night, topping you up if your glass got empty. Even though we did not eat the food smelled and looked amazing and seemed very reasonably priced. Would recommend!!”

“We were dropping our son to the University of Nottingham end of September and stumbled upon Compà in Beeston on our first night of arrival. It was our son’s suggestion and we decided to check it out! I am so glad we did! The food was delicious and it was like visiting a family - cosy, warm ambiance and pretty lights inside that made it feel festive and special on a week night. We were pretty tired after flying from US to London, than taking a train to Nottingham the next morning so it was especially nice to sit down and take time to enjoy this place, yummy food while we planned next few days. We stroke a conversation with the owner who turned out to be such a wonderful kind person and it made us feel even more comfortable and welcome. It was a lovely experience and a warm welcome.
