“The best Sunday roast anywhere. Great service. Highly recommend this pub. The carvery I. A Sunday is fresh and home made. No lines to get your food like the toby. It's just a perfect lunch in a beautiful pub.”
“We stayed here for 3 nights. I was absolutely pleasantly surprised. Nothing was too much to ask for from filling up our bottles most days to placing ice cream in the fridge. The hotel was clean friendly and the pool was a little gem. I would say relaxed and perfect. I really enjoyed my stay here for a 3 star this hotel was an example of great cleanliness friendly staff and overall good service. I would not say anything was bad. Great location good to visit Portsmouth like we did. Next time will prob stay longer then 3. Breakfast was outstanding to the fried choice and then the fresh quality fruit or small pastries. Decaff was cool I had a big cafe tiere each breakfast. Just over all great choice!”
“I visited this restaurant at the weekend with my partner and 2 year old, they were very accommodating, polite and thorough with the service, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely, they were very kind to our little shy boy and even gave him a lolly pop at the end which he was thrilled about. 10/10 would recommend.”
“Ah, splendid afternoon indeed! We paid a visit to The Duke at luncheon and were most pleasantly surprised. The fare was hearty, classic pub grub — quite up to snuff, I must say. Our charming hostess, April, attended to us (and our faithful hound!) with the utmost care and good cheer. All in all, a thoroughly delightful experience — jolly good show!”
“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lexi the bartender at Old Cross Pub was fantastic – really friendly and easy to talk to. Service was quick, and they had great recommendations for both drinks and food. You can tell they know their stuff and genuinely want guests to have a good time. It made the whole visit relaxed and enjoyable. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to! Thank you so much!!”
“Always a pleasure. The host John is fantastic and attentive, always asks how you are and makes the meal feel special. Set menus are a great value for money with plenty of food, and there’s a brilliant range of dishes besides them too. Really reasonable prices and a beautiful restaurant.”
“We have on occasion popped to the Fisherman’s rest for a drink: This evening we happened to come home to a power cut so called ahead to see if there were tables available. When we arrived, we were seated straight away. When we ordered we were informed there was no bacon. We asked if we could have pulled pork with the burger as a swap which was accommodated and my husband said it was delicious. I had the sirloin steak which was beautifully cooked. Some of the best onion rings I have had in a long time. Other members of our party had scampi which looked golden. Those who had dessert were pleased that they opted for the mini dessert and a drink option as this was just enough. Lovely, friendly service. We will definitely pop by again - even for a drink.”
“The food is always amazing! Brilliant, speedy service. No doubt the best value for money takeaway in fareham.”
“Whether you're a tourist or on a business trip, this is a superb place to stop for a night or a longer stay. It has a very pleasant local feel in every respect : the rooms, the meals, the breakfast, the pub... The premises are clean and the hosts are so friendly. Excellent ! Fareham and the surrounding area are superb.”
“Our Monday club group had a lovely fish and chips to die for today !!! The service was 1st class and the food was exceptional. The many times we have been to the Seagull we have never been disappointed. Booking was easy on line followed up by a visit to confirm details and timing. Staff very helpful.”
“Second time here and soon to be back for a third! Lovely pub with so much to offer with seating and space. Kids are very much welcome here with a great garden space and playground. The food here is beautiful. The beef Sunday roast was a highlight with scampi and chips proving a winner, too.”
“My Husband and I were out on a long walk and fancied a grilled sandwich so we searched places nearby that served what we were craving on google and it came up with The Bun Penny. We found the menu and were sold! We were so impressed! The pub was welcoming, warm and homely. The lad who served us was so polite and friendly. The food was absolutely amazing, that home made slaw...OMG! and they actually serve Pepsi max, No-one ever seems too. Absolutely thrilled with our unplanned lunch date and would definitely return. We did have to extend our walk home though as we were soooo full up we needed to walk it off. Portion sizes were immense.”
“Great Christmas Dinner yesterday we all enjoyed our meals and all staff very friendly and helpful will be back. Happy Christmas”
“Love the new menu. Great value. The whole place has had a massive face-lift. Definitely is going to be a family favourite. The additional daily deals make this place a no brainer for value.”
“Came here for a birthday meal and only booked the day before for lunch. They were great in being able to accommodate such a large group, around 14 of us. The lady that greeted/served us was very polite, and made us feel at ease and not like we've put pressure on them. Service was very good overall and food was brought out quickly, and within the groups we were paying, as we informed them we were splitting the bill before hand. I had the pork belly for starter, and the jerk burger as a main. I cannot recommend the belly enough, perfectly executed with a lovely sauce, and sour cream which go well together with the pork. The jerk burger was nice, with lots of bell pepper and mixed salad in the bun, the chicken could have been more jerky for me but I like my heat and spice. Parking is nearby so you won't have to walk far, and you'll have great views over the bay/sea.”
“Can’t comment on the food as only popped in for a drink. Lovely place with great views. Staff were welcoming and it is also dog friendly!”
“Visited last week with our dog and mother in law. Absolutely lovely pub. Gorgeous building and interior, crackling fireplace, delicious and very special food. Fletcher the bar man was so kind, accomodating and pleasant to us. Will definitely cone again. I've been raving about it ever since. Thank you.”
“With friendly staff, excellent food, and a good selection of drinks, The Rising Sun is a great pub. We stayed here whilst walking the nearby South Downs Way and were made to feel very welcome indeed. Dinner was delicious and beyond our expectations. The straightforward accommodation, meanwhile, offered good value, and the breakfast was the best across our multi-day trip. Highly recommended.”
“We came for a Birthday meal for Chris who is sadly no longer with us. The staff went above & beyond to make the day very special for us. The food was excellent and they made everybody very welcome. They even supplied us with a knife and paper plates for the birthday cake. Would definitely recommend and will absolutely be coming back every year.”
“The food was hot, plentiful and tasty. The service was good both from our server Ewan and the bar staff. Pub was not too busy so the atmosphere was not strong, but it was great to chat and enjoy our food and drink. Well done to your team.”
“Nice local pub, great drinks on offer with friendly staff, didn’t eat going to do that next time. Massive beer garden out the back..”
“Certainly one of the best pub roasts we’ve ever experienced. Lovely staff, gorgeous food, a great vibe to the entire place and great value for money. We won’t be leaving it too long before we’re back for another fine roast. Thanks everyone!”
“Lovely little place. Really welcoming. Reasonably priced drinks, and pool table is in good condition. Great music choices too!”
“Everything u want a pub to be! This is a classic old school pub, and they are a dying breed! There is just something so quintessentially Pompey about it! Wether its the Pompey memorabilia (signed shirts, pictures etc), hospital staff or the giant Bulldog who lives there! Multiple dartboard, good beer, and a "make the effort" attitude (they go all out decorating for Halloween etc) make this a place to go! Love it”
“Love this pub, now made it my local after living next to it for 20 years even joined the darts team, it's a clean friendly welcoming place I love it, well done Kasey and all the staff are amazing.”
“Tucked away just behind the main shopping area. Nice to see an independent back street pub still popular and doing well with so many closing. Run by the same lovely family for over 4 decades.”
