“Fantastic friendly staff, with great service from Sean and the team. Sam singing created a lovely atmosphere and the food was outstanding, especially the crumble and ice cream. Lovely to meet the owner and support this family pub which I'm looking forward to visiting again.”
“Staff are welcoming and friendly Reasonably priced Breakfast is yummy and massive”
“Great meal here on Saturday night, the last time we were here was the opening night so that was quite some time ago, food was very tasty, well presented and more than reasonable , plenty on the drinks menu too. The waiter was helpful and easy to get along with, great relaxed atmosphere and nice to see the restaurant busy.”
“Impressed with the lunch here, we had the mixed grill for 2 which included 2 steaks, chicken, cheese, mushrooms and peppers - delicious, especially the chimmichurri sauce. The steaks were perfectly cooked, pink on the inside and very soft. House red was ok but would probably choose something else next time.”
“Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good selection of drinks. Prices competitive with other local bars. Now starting a new food venture. Tapas. Really well presented and exceedingly tasty. I mean it's pretty perfect. Recommended.”
“The staff were really lovely. They weren’t due to open for another 30 minutes. Seating is limited, even more so because it was raining. The staff were really kind and made me food before they were supposed to open. The short rib was beautiful - really tender and the meat fell off the bone. The chips were good, plentiful, well seasoned and crispy. And they packed my doughnuts in a box to go at my request. It was the best meal during my stay in Bristol.”
“I've been here 3 times now and cannot recommend this place enough. There is nothing better than a family run, friendly service. The staff's enthusiasm shines through and you're always greeted with a smile. The Caipirinha is absolutely out of this world! I will be back regularly. Tell everyone about this place...They deserve to be packed out every night! Thank you so much and I'll see you all again soon!”
“I've eaten here quite a few times and food has always been excellent. Staff are very friendly and happy to explain food options. I would highly recommended this restaurant to anyone.”
“We tried many fish and chips, but this was amazing! The burger so good too! Beautiful place to grab something to eat and chill.”
“A great village pub under a recent management change. Great menu and the roast dinners are spectacular. Plenty of parking available. It's a very short diversion off of the A38, if you're driving past.”
“A lovely place to eat. As a lot of people do, we cycled along the Strawberry Line which comes out near the Railway Inn where we stopped for lunch. The terrace was spacious with plenty of tables in the sun or shade. Food was lovely, enjoyed every bit. Kids meals were better than most places as well so everyone was happy. As expected, a wide range of Ciders and beers available which went down well on a sunny afternoon. Will definitely come here again.”
“Me and my family have been going here for years. The service is always great and the prawn pizza is delicious”
“Great service, friendly staff with absolutely delicious food. So good we’ve been back several times. You have to book and you can see why.”
“I cannot thank this pub enough for the kindness they showed me recently. My car broke down nearby while I was already running late for the airport, and with no phone signal and no clue what to do, the staff stepped in without hesitation. They kindly let me leave my car in their car park for a few days while I sorted everything out, and even gave me access to their WiFi so I could book a taxi. Thanks to their help, I managed to make my flight in the end. Everyone I met there was genuinely lovely, friendly, understanding, and willing to help someone in a stressful situation. Proper good people and a proper good pub. I highly recommend visiting them. They fully deserve your support.”
“We have only ever been here for sunday roast but it never disappoints. Very quick service. Such great value for money and really tasty too. Will definitely go again for the week day menu.”
“The restaurant in Portishead with the best sauces. The food itself is great, but the sauces they serve alongside the dishes are a true masterpiece.”
“Fantastic food, I had the pulled pork burger. Good portions and a reasonable price. Plenty of space of all group sizes. Staff were very friendly and helpful, would happily go back here.”
“We were able to agree exclusive use of the restaurant/ conservatory for our family wedding reception on Saturday. The team at the Rising Sun were very helpful with the arrangements and helped set up the conservatory according to our seating plan. A family friend arrived early to decorate the room and it looked lovely. We had to pre order our food, but that meant we all got to choose exactly what we wanted. So much better than a set menu. All the good arrived on time, was hot and tasty, with generous portions. Huge portions of pudding were gratefully received. Thank you to the team at the Rising Sun for helping make our wedding day so special. Best of all, for many of us, it was a short walk home! Thanks again from Steve and Melissa, the new Mr and Mrs Hunt, x”
“I absolutely love this pub's Sunday roasts. They are to die for. Today's chicken roast was cooked absolutely perfectly. The chicken was moist, came apart well, the seasonings are delightful and the veg to go with it still had that nice fresh veg crunch to it. Also, they have a bearded dragon so that's kinda cool.”
“First time visit - really tasty food; excellent service. Recommend the Himalayan dishes. Glad we chose to drive across from Bath and meet our friends here.”
“A lovely gastro pub serving high-quality food and drinks. It's a little pricey, but the quality is there.”
“Cozy pub offering a warm, traditional atmosphere and a good selection of food. The menu caters to a variety of tastes, featuring classic pub dishes and some creative options. Portions are good, and the prices are reasonable, providing excellent value for money. The staff are friendly and attentive. It's the perfect spot for a casual meal with family or friends following a walk.”
“Went to Palomar for lunch and it was such a lovely experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was great, music was on point, our server was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious (we had oysters and the seafood boil). Little hidden gem! The only downside was parking, we aren't from Bristol and when we looked on Google maps there weren't any car parks nearby that we could see so we had to park on the road outside and walk to the restaurant.”
“The food was so tasty! Staff was super friendly, funny and polite! The goat cheese with redbeet salsa is my ultimate favorite! The green olives were quite raw/fresh, we would prefer other type but these were good too. Overall amazing food and vibe, I definitely recommend!”
“We liked it so much we visited twice during our stay in Bristol. The sausages are the best I've ever had; the Pork, Leek and Stilton are just sublime!”
“Lovely welcoming staff. Food was good. Choice of 2 meats from the carvery(can have both if you wish) limited menu for those not wanting carvery but it was worth having!”
“Impressively presented menu offered by this beautiful restaurant. I loved the high, gold-leaf ceiling supported by a central column and skirted with tropical engineer-diagram images, which to me were a tip of the hat to Bristol's many high tech contributions. I wish I had time to try the whole menu. My meal, an eggplant tajine, was delicious. Paired with an outstanding drinks offering, The Ivy will be a great place for dinner with friends or someone special. Put The Ivy on your Bristol dining plans.”
“Had Sunday roast here. Quite excellent, nice amount of trimmings and gravy. Very nice crumble for pudding with plenty of custard. Dog friendly and great service.”
“Favourite roast in Bristol, great selection of options for the main (the seitan is our fav) and all the sides are always so tasty. The vegan roast costs the same as the veggie one but you don't get the yorkie, it would be good to either get an alternative or reduce the price of the vegan roast a tiny bit considering this. There isn't a vegan cauli cheese option, but I ordered a vegan Mac and cheese from the small plates which was amazing (my cheese eating partner said it was incredible too). Hoping this stays on the menu because it was a great combo! Or that a similar sauce can be used to offer a vegan cauli cheese option. **Edit** we returned this weekend (Nov 2025) and there was a vegan cauli cheese option, yay!”
“There was definitely an olde feel to this pub as we walked in, ducking heads as advised to avoid the low entrance and stepping into a comfortable and pleasant environment. It was full for a lunchtime, always a good sign. We were pointed to a board full of daily special dishes and another board showing the selection of pies before being taken to our table. The menu had a good range of options, including a number of vegetarian and fish dishes, and some pub favourites (I understand the liver and bacon is very popular!). Service was friendly and not too slow, although we didn’t feel rushed either. The food we ordered was excellent and there was plenty of it, so much so we couldn’t manage dessert, which was a shame as they looked lovely too. We will definitely be returning.”
