“I’ve completed two long weekends worth of training at Shining Cliff and have been based at the hostel for both. A decent walk into the incredible woods, this lovely little hostel gives you everything you need to move out into the wild just enough to immerse yourself in nature. Kate looks after the hostel and a lot of the woodland facilities. There is so much love and care taken with the management and encounters with Kate are always great. Can’t wait to go back soon!”
“My son and I really enjoy staying here. This our second visit and both stays have been excellent. Paul and Rachel are a lovely couple who go out of their way to make everything as we like it. We have stayed in both rooms which are clean and welcoming with lovely decor throughout. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Coming from Scotland we know a great breakfast when we see it. The area is a great base for getting around and it is very quiet with a lovely outlook. We have stayed in many B&B/guesthouse up and down the country and this is by far our favourite thanks to the lovely owners and the unbeatable value for money. We will be back again soon we hope. Kathleen and Dariush.”
“Lovely place to relax, very clean, nice setting.”
“Absolutely fantastic place to stay with amazing hosts .... Whole experience is incredible.... Loved the firepit whilst enjoying a fantastic barbecue. Will definitely return”
“Me and visual impaired gentleman visited the robin hood for a carvery and to watch the entertainment. The staff were lovely and couldn't of been anymore helpful with helping me assist the gentleman I was with. All the locals in the pub were very chatty and welcoming. The Sunday carvery was all fresh and homemade absolutely lovely! The entertainment was outside and very brilliant!”
“Very clean friendly place breakfast excellent would highly recommend and near convenience stores”
“Gotta be honest went for a work Xmas do...was dreading it.....but had a lovely time. Great relaxed atmosphere. Service wasn't amazing but the people serving were and our party had a lot of people and the food was divine, really wonderful.”
“Friendly welcome, great cask beer, and a genuinely warm and homely atmosphere. Wasn't able to eat (was a bit early) but word from the locals is its very good - and I was very tempted to stay for some sausage casserole!”
“Staff were lovely and friendly, my only reason for a slightly lower score is that it is fairly out of the way if you don’t bring a vehicle. However the place itself was lovely. Toilets were pristine and smelt lovely. The food was nice and the room were clean.”
“We had a fantastic 4 day break in one of the caravans on site, lovely family friendly ground with a nice quiet vibes but plenty of space for our toddlers to play. Nice little shop for essentials and a decent little pool. No bar or restaurant on site but a breakfast van came in the mornings and there is a little hut selling burgers and wraps on an evening, burgers were really good. Only slight gripe was there was no towels supplied in our caravan which is fine if we had known, and the double bed in our caravan was the hardest bed I’ve ever slept in, didn’t catch a good night sleep in the time we were there. Excellent location with plenty walks and cycle routes close to Ashbourne and Matlock. We will be back”
“Lovely camptite. Very friendly staff. Nice pub on site. Food quite pricey but looked good, burgers and pizza. Its open to full sunshine with no shade but they eventually put a few umbrellas up. Swimming pool nice, not too big but clean. No loungers but some bench tables, again no shade. Small kids pool too that gets very busy, especially at weekends! Good shop that stocks essentials plus some camping gear. Electric hookup extensions are about 30 quid and you may need one as the electric posts are every 3 pitches! Gets very busy at weekends!”
“We stayed here as part of the Alton towers break, and what a good choice we made with this hotel. We arrived at about 2015 after a full day at Alton towers and was greeted with a warmest of welcomes. We ate in the restaurant and the burger was home made and the wife and boy both said it was lovely. I had the pork with bacon and black pudding which was honestly the best meal I have had in a long time (the black pudding was the best ever). The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The continental breakfast had a wide range of foods and was lovely, I treated myself to the pancakes and bacon which was worth the extra money. Definitely worth a stay.”
“Great food served by a lovely team of staff who make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. We had an impromptu celebration for my son’s engagement and we were looked after so well. Thanks to Holly and the rest of the staff.”
“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had our wedding at The Kedleston Country House on 4th October 2025 and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The venue itself is so elegant and beautifully maintained, creating the most stunning backdrop for our day. Everything ran so smoothly, and a huge thank you goes to Helen, who was simply amazing — so organised, friendly, and made us feel completely at ease throughout the whole process. The tapas menu was incredible; our guests couldn’t stop talking about how delicious it was! We had so many compliments on both the food and the overall atmosphere. If you’re looking for a wedding venue that combines elegance, excellent service, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe, I couldn’t recommend The Kedleston Country House more highly!”
“What an absolutely beautiful place my wife and I have had a lovely time lodge was immaculate you have thought of absolutely everything would encourage anyone to come it’s been an absolute pleasure”
“Had an amazing experience at the apartment, from booking to check out was so seamless. My kids and I really loved our stay there, it was home away from home. I would definitely recommend sublime stays any day, any time.”
“Managed to get a cheap room fairly last minute there, the front desk staff were friendly, the room was clean and it was a good sleep there, room was nice and warm without being too hot. The only annoyance is that there's no kettles in rooms, so to make teas or anything that needs hot water you have to return to the front desk. Otherwise, it's great and I was happy with my stay.”
“We were very well looked after by the staff after my Dad's funeral back on Jan 3rd. The traditional buffet all went down very well and Melanie had a clear handle on food allergies - everyone was provided for. It was warm and comfortable with ample room for us to get round and speak to people. Keepers Cottage has good parking and is easy to find too! Melanie was easy to contact and clear about what info she would need and when, as we were straight after the Christmas/New Year break. Thank you!”
“Cheap as chips, all you need for a night's stay. Close to lots of food places and major road routes. Room was perfectly fine, nothing special but for the price you can't expect any more. If your looking for a cheap comfortable night's stay. This hotel is perfect.”
“Super friendly and helpful hosts, great beds and gorgeous linen (guaranteed good nights sleep), delicious home cooked food and bags of personality. This place is a winner. Highly recommended”
“We booked this location as 1 of our dogs was having surgery at West Midlands Referals across the road (A38) this was very convienient. The rooms was clean, comfotable & airy, we didn't experience any road noise and was on the front of hotel. Thanks to David for a warm & friendly welcome & help booking an extra night. Bonus accepting dogs would stay again, Shaun's Shack great at West Midlands Referals great for a reasinable price breakast sandwich.”
“Arrived October 28th and had a lovely stay at Travelodge. Amy was so kind and welcoming — she even found a bin bag at breakfast so my little girl could tidy her rubbish. Tom was also amazing, helping carry my bag to the room after it broke. The room was clean and comfy, but it’s the staff who really made our stay. Thank you both!”
“Brilliant night stay as we were having a Christmas party. Lovely welcome at reception and room was lovely and clean. Would definitely recommemd amd will definitely stay again.”
“I have stayed here before and the upgrades are great. The staff (in particular the assistant manager) were all polite helpful and friendly. I stayed for a few weeks due to circumstances and they couldn’t have done more for me …. Thank you so much excellent value too”
“Beautiful location and wonderful site! Friendly staff! Located very close to Aston on Trent for a few pubs! Would definitely recommend.”
