“Called in the Wigan branch the gentleman on the desk was very helpful and knowledgeable. A young man by the name of Ben helped me with a problem I had. He was so very pleasant, knew what he was talking about and had a great sense of humour (I know nothing about cars except where to put the petrol). Ben is an asset to your branch. In fact the four gentlemen working in the branch were really, really nice.”
“Went in not expecting to get the items I wanted l, but I was pleasantly surprised they had it. The guy who served me was very helpful with his knowledge and expertise. And made a few suggestions to make the job better. Even opened the item to show me how it was to be used. A credit to the shop. Well done.”
“Loads to choose from good range of tents and sleeping bags , needed advice on which tent to get for when we go camping so asked a guy called jake who was great help gave us advice on all the tents on how durable the tents were and which ones would be ideal space wise, once we had chose the tent we wanted he showed us where to get the tent from and then said if we needed anymore help with anything to let him know”
“Lovely young lady called Eve, very helpful on the till in here today after I purchased a baby bouncer chair from the baby room at the back of this shop. Definitely need staff in the baby rooms department but Eve was Extremely Helpful on the till on the way out. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me.”
“Very vast range of toys and other products in here, displayed very well - especially the Lego section, some decent prices on the footballs, reminded me of going to toys r us as a kid, hope smyths stays open for this generation of kids and those after.”
“I placed an online order and a blonde lady (so sorry I did not catch her name) was on the online orders service desk at around 18:30. She was so friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. She showed me the tent I had ordered and helped me understand that my beds would not fit in it. She found me a suitable alternative that was larger and explained to the benefits of it. She is an asset to your team! Thankyou.”
“Great place to visit and for shopping if you like to go outdoors and camping. Wide range of products for campers, hikers, bikers. All of them good quality! Cheaper - if not much cheaper - than other retailers. Great brands are on sale currently on Black Friday deals (winter coats, tents, bicycles... Etc etc). Kids and family friendly. Easy to spend there an hour or two, and kids can enjoy the tents setted up. Great place for people with disabilities, wheelchair users. Full access on both floor for everyone, lift gives access to the 1st floor. Customers toilets are in place also.. Only one thing I'm missing from here, maybe a little stall for simple food, bbq food and soft drinks.”
“A decent range to choose from and the staff are helpful. I managed to get a great deal on a new backpack which I'm really happy with”
“Great selection: There’s something for many ages and interests — whether you’re shopping for a toddler, teenager, or gift for an adult toy-collector. • Friendly service: Staff were helpful, willing to offer advice on what might be age-appropriate or trending. • Clean, well-organised space: It’s easy to browse, find items, and the displays make the toys look appealing.”
“Massive selection of toys, games and collectibles. Plenty of parking. Massive lego section, bike section, baby section etc. Big store with tons of stock of most popular and trending toys as well as the classics. Electronic gaming section there too with a big variety of games and consoles.”
“I've been in here a lot and the staff have always been really helpful and friendly. I went in today for a bike for my son and the guy in the store was really knowledgeable and gave great advice.”
“Super helpful when I needed a part for my bike, that was not standard. Someone helped me from their bits and bobs bin. I bought some other things to say thanks. Good shop with adventurous ambiance.”

“Absolutely fantastic brilliant place”
“Went in here last week with a faulty Xbox pad and the staff couldn’t have been nicer . A man and young woman they were so helpful and changed the pad straight away .”
“The store is large, and organised the same as any sports direct: shoe and textiles and in the textiles its split between gender and age; purpose and then brand. Admittedly the store is over crowded with stock, and it is difficult to manoeuvre a wheelchair at the front. However, if you ask a member of staff (usually there is one at the front) they will move stands for easier access. Stock is placed very high, though self-help hooks are available for customers to use, and usually staff will help you out (if they're available). Unfortunately, like all Sports Directs, it is often under staffed, though Honestly some of the complaints about staff are utterly ridiculous. I've been many times and frequently purchased from the store and staff have always been perfectly polite (where appropriate). If anything staff are only rude when customers are rude to them. I recently witnessed one instance where this one girl stood and listened to a customer's tirade for over fifteen minutes (politely ask him to move after she'd served him, so she could serve others- he didn't) before- nearly in tears- she snapped back that if the customer had a problem with staff he should bring it up with the manager (which clearly she wasn't), and explained that she was not her to be yelled at, for any reason. She indicated who her manager was, and said if the customer now had a problem with her too, then he should also tell the manager. After he left, she turned to the couple in front of me and apologised for both the incident and the wait. When she served me, she did the same and I assured her that it was not a problem. Seriously the biggest problem in this store is OTHER customers, they're usually rude or ignorant and will deliberately cut in or interrupt staff as they are dealing with other people. Best to avoid at peak times as this is usually when the worst customers are in store.”
“Cavernous place with a huge variety of trainers and workout clothing. I went in for the first time yesterday and was initially put-off that I couldn’t find anyone to help me. But then I found an assistant, Aiden, who couldn’t have been nicer, more patient or more helpful. He helped me find the perfect pair of trainers and carried them to checkout for me. From now on, I will go no where else for trainers and gym stuff. A++++”
“In June 2025 Jamie (assistant manager) was able to resolve an issue for me, and in doing so demonstrated the best customer service care I have experienced in Chester during the last 20 years. I can’t recommend this branch of Evans cycles highly enough. In October 2025 Jamie came to the rescue again when my Boardman broke down. How reassuring to have an honest, decent bike mechanic and sales manager whom I can trust. 100% Jamie. 10/10. 5***** I took my ageing Boardman to Diego for a repair and he was very generous with his time, talking me through all the options. He has kindly helped me in the past too. I have always received excellent service from everyone at Evans Cycles, and never had to wait for assistance. I bought a bike there a few years ago at a fantastic price.”
“I bought a pair of Nike shoes from the store about two weeks ago and unfortunately one of the lace eyelets snapped after very light use. I went back today not really knowing what to expect, and Luke on the shop floor was absolutely brilliant. He listened properly, checked everything quickly, and swapped them for a brand-new pair on the spot with no fuss at all. He was friendly, polite, and made the whole thing really easy. It’s rare to get service that good these days, so a massive thank you to Luke and the team. I’ll definitely keep shopping here because of experiences like this. Highly recommend!”
