“This was absolutely one of my favorite stops on my trip to Scotland. The service is superior and the eye of detail is exceptional. I was here with my mother who is disabled, they escorted us to the lift and made sure it was easy for my mother to get around and was comfortable. I see the passion they have with sharing history and information about Prestonfield House, it's such a spendlor to look at all the decor and details of literally every corner of the estate. We came for afternoon tea and it was everything and more than I could have imagined. The food was top notch and the flavors were so fun to explore coming from the states. Black pepper on Scottish strawberries, chefs kiss ”
“Great Pizza in the heart of Edinburgh. We were sceptical at first if we can get a good Italian pizza in the north of GB. But it was sooo damn good. If you like good Italian pizza try this one!”
“It is a dining experience worth every £ we paid. Congratulations to the chefs and the kind staff who served us. We will definitely come again.”
“Great view! Service was with a smile. Portion size is just right so you can actually finish your meal! Beautiful french food.”
“The best food that we had in Edinburgh. The ambience was amazing, only the host was better. Just a lovely and kind person. The food was on point, we would definitely get back here on our next trip.”
“Food was excellent and very well priced. Place is busy! Went on a Monday evening and was lucky to get a table. Very loud inside. The decor could maybe do with an update. Would recommend booking!”
“Went for lunch with a friend who lives in Penicuik. Amazing value compared with anywhere in Edinburgh. Good freshly prepared food and friendly, helpful service.”
“Delicious linguine with pistachio pesto pancetta and proper cappuccino. Can taste the quality incidents and pasta was al dante. Friendly people. Quick service. Would be back again soon.”
“Lovely afternoon tea with lovely relaxed surroundings. Staff were attentive & friendly. Sandwiches, savouries and scones were excellent but we personally found the cakes a bit too rich.”
“Gem of a wee place that I am happy to have rediscovered. Food, service and staff are all superb. Had a smashing Steak & Eggs washed down with a spot-on Bloody Mary. Would also have happily have eaten partners Huevos Rancheros. Revist def planned for the evening/dinner menu.”
“The type of charming local cafe that is sadly all too rare these days, serving a wonderful mix of traditional Scottish dishes and cafe fair with some authentic turkish options. The food is freshly and lovingly prepared to order delivered quickly and with relish. The prices are surprisingly reasonable given the quality. Staff very warm and welcoming and happy to cater to preferences. Ample seating inside and some charming outside tables give it s real Mediterranean feel in the Costa del nitten. Owner passionate about food and pleasing his customers. Only single downside is having to wait awhile for a table as it is so loved by the local community that it's always busy, which is the biggest green flag for a cafe one can give. Highly recommend.”
“Real pizza oven and quality ingredients. Friendly Italian owner and makes the best pizza in Edinburgh. Don't order Dominos when this is here!”
“Wonderful - a must visit, must see, must eat, if you are in Lieth. Bagel was awesome with an egg cooked in the middle, so many seasames too, and the apple tea was so delicate and delicous like eating crisp red apples.”
“The terrine was delicious. The steak with pepper sauce was really good. The chicken breast was pretty plain but the blue cheese sauce was delicious. House wine is good. Service was excellent. It’s a small cramped space - just like a Paris bistro should be!”
“Great all around! Our friends who now live in our town in the US, recommended this place so we naturally wanted to try. They didn’t disappoint! We loved the flexibility of the hostess. When we inquired about a table without a reservation, she was very willing. The ambience is very pretty, cozy & romantic by the window. The food was well seasoned and definitely fresh. Do not miss the Stornoway Black Pudding. It’s really delicious! We ordered Lamb rump, Duck leg, Sea bass & Cod. Our favorites were the last 3 only because we are not “rare” meat eaters and the lamb was served so. I still enjoyed it tho! I loved their mocktails! So good! They had sides that were also fantastic! The cheesy and creamy cauliflower were amazing!! You gotta try!”
“Down a dark side street lies this hidden gem of a café. The service was friendly, warm, and prompt. The atmosphere was dark and comfortable. The food was outstanding. I had an excellent salad of roasted pumpkin with pesto and crowdie cheese. Best squash dish I've ever tasted. The sea trout I had next was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and served over rich white beans with Spanish chorizo. I would recommend this café to anyone visiting Edinburgh.”
“I used to come here years ago when I lived in Edinburgh, and am delighted that the quality hasn't declined at all. The food is a bit pricey but worth it for the quality of ingredients and cooking. The restaurant is a beautiful place to be, and the service was attentive. One of my favourite places to eat in Edinburgh.”
“We were thoroughly pampered by Keith and Emma and their team, our evening was seamlessly executed from start to finish with the staff engaging, knowledgeable and eager to please. Matthew’s food was beautiful in every course and we loved every dish and accompanying wine - he needs to trademark that Cullen skink canapé for sure!!! Thoroughly recommend- great experience!!!”
“Good place, tasty food, good portions and affordable. Would go again, and the guy who makes the food is nice as well and seem to have a passion for making his food.”
“For this restaurant only being open a week, it is already running incredibly smoothly. Was no issues at all with me being gluten free and the gluten free bread they had was delicious. All the food was incredible, I mean gluten free tagliatelle how many restaurants go to that effort. The service was amazing, nothing was too much trouble. I'd highly recommend giving this place a try you will not be disappointed, make sure you go hungry as you'll most definitely want 3 courses. Drinks were superb as well, perfect for a special occasion or date night.”
“Situated in the upmarket area of Morningside/ Bruntsfield, Edinburgh directly opposite the Churchill theatre. Salt Café is a wee oasis of good food and coffee in an area which boasts several mainstream multi branch/ big chain coffee shops. SALT : Seasonal, Artisanal, Local and Thoughtful which appears to be very much the case. This comfortable coffee house recently changed their offerings to be just coffee, cake and small plates, but those are delicious. The food is freshly made in-house, including the cakes, granola, jam and compotes. Salt has received several awards and I could see why, including ‘Best Cafe’ at the Edinburgh Evening News Restaurant Awards 2022 and a ‘Travellers Choice 2023’ award from Trip Advisor. the team was friendly and considerate the coffee was great and the toast with Honey, then sultana scone were really good. Being a big guy I could probably done with more of the sourdough toast but not everyone is my size. This was a very enjoyable interlude in my walk around the area and I will go back. Definitely worth a visit.”
“Fabulous spot! Had a really memorable and special time dining in style. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely, boozy lunch—beautiful interiors, a laid-back vibe, and ideal for sharing a few plates over a good bottle. The food and drink were top quality, packed with flavour. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax and indulge in a stylish setting. Understandably considered Edinburgh‘s best hotel!”
“Got lunch here before walking up to see the highland coos, and it was a very pleasant surprise. The staff were extremely helpful, kind and friendly; the atmosphere was nice and relaxed with great views all around. And the food - the risotto was quite good but the highlight was the dairy-free almond cake, which was one of the best cakes I've ever eaten, and I've had a lot! Whoever made the cream on that cake deserves eternal happiness; it melted in my mouth and was absolutely divine.”
“Really friendly staff and outstanding service from the minute we walked in. Was warmly greeted and taken to our table straight away. We had prebooked which I would recommend if you are fancy where you sit. Food was of a very high standard and not too expensive but also not cheap. Good selection of small tapas like plates.”
“First visited 3 years ago when in Scotland on holiday had to visit again worth the trip. One of the best places to eat that I been to. Called again 2024 for lunch always have to visit when we are nearby on holiday. Very friendly staff always make a fuss of the dog and food as good as ever. My wife said she just wanted a salad and I ended up with half due to the size of it.”
“We were looked after wonderfully by the team - charcuterie board of dreams (even though they’d stopped serving) and a lovely bottle of red. Thank you for looking after two exhausted Mums so kindly!”
“We had coffees and pastries sitting in, the service was good, every person working seemed to be focused on providing great customer experience which was refreshing for my parents who were visiting from France... We then had French patisseries to take away. They were good but the eclairs tasted like they were from the day before. The baguettes were very authentic. We didn't try the sandwiches but if they are made with the same bread then they should be pretty awesome as the fillings looked amazing.”
“This is a hidden gem! We were directed to all of the normal tourist spots for dinner but decided to check it out online. We stayed at a hotel close by and happened to see this place on the map. The online menu and reviews prompted us here and I speak for my whole family when I say we were not disappointed. The portions were a little small but their qualities more than made up for it. The unique combinations of ingredients was exciting and irresistible. Every bite was a delight and discovery of the intricacies of the dish. Well done to the chef! Also, the plating was a feast for the eyes and I have to admit that I left feeling quite full.”
“Delicious Sunday lunch, great value, superb quality that really doesn’t disappoint. Would always recommend booking in advance but well worth it. Staff are very friendly and happy to help & offer suggestions.”
“My husband and I had a lovely 8 course meal here during our stay. Staff and sommelier were very helpful with their recommendations. Looking forward to coming back someday.”
