“Wonderful little restaurant in city centre. Easily accommodated for our large group of people. Food was prepared to our liking and served rather quickly, even though we were 14+ guests. Lasagna was delicious and appetisers utilised proper Italian meat and cheese. Pasta was also good. Kind staff was a good bonus.”

“We dined on a thu evening at The Rise for my parents wedding anniversary. We were greated by a card from the restaurant to my parents which was a lovely touch. For starters we had the cheese souffle. This was delicious however it said with walnuts but we didn't see any. For mains two of us had the lamb shanks, my husband had the fish and chips and my mum had the fish pie. Portion sizes were on the smaller side but more than adequate for us, the fish pie was larger and mum said every mouthful was packed with seafood. All were absolutely beautiful. Delicious well done chef! We only had two desserts, the pavlova and the chocolate mouse. Both were very tasty and each with its own twist on things. Food is on the more expensive side, but you pay for what you get and it's definitely worth it. Drinks are very expensive, nothing special but absolutely OK. Service fabulous the staff never stop working hard to ensure you are well cared for, very attentive. We were served by Jack mainly but all staff were fabulous. We have had two afternoon teas here which were also delicious and wonderful. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend.”

“We had our small post wedding celebration here in The Courtyard. We stayed the night before and the evening of our wedding. The entire staff, from Event management as my first contact, to reception staff and the breakfast greeting was superb. However, a very special mention must go to Yontshi, who made sure we enjoyed our tasting menu the night before and took charge of our reception on the Saturday. Staff - friendly and super efficient, a pleasure to see a team working so well on a very busy breakfast shift - much better than many large corporate chain hotels we have stayed in. Breakfast - decent breakfast with a good range of options. Room - good size, very clean and warm. Parking - very reasonable price for parking in York. Stay again - definitely. Value - very good. Recommend - absolutely. Overall - spot on, far better than many places we've stayed in.”

“An excellent restaurant with excellent cuisine, I have never eaten such wonderful steaks anywhere else - it is simply something incredible, therefore Five stars 5*. If it were possible to give 6*, I would give 7*. Yes, it is expensive, but this is a Steak House. At the same time, I did not expect that the most ordinary steak on duty for £16 would be simply incredible - soft and very tasty. You do not even need to cut it - it is already cut and you only have to take a piece, put it in your mouth and ... drown. Just drown in an ocean of pleasure! For the first time in 8 years of living in the UK I ate a relatively inexpensive, but such a delicious steak! I will soon start rapping about this steak. Everything else was also excellent - French fries under parmesan cheese with some very tasty sauce, then there were desserts, I tried two and both were excellent, especially the peach mousse. The service is a separate praise! I'm a little confused, but I got the impression that our table for 4 people was served by 4 or 5 waiters. Moreover, the service system is worked out to the smallest detail, everyone knows their business and supports their colleague. Needless to say, there were no empty seats in the hall, it was necessary to book a table in advance, but it was worth it. I really liked the interior design of the restaurant hall, but what I did not expect was the magnificent interior of the lobby in front of the toilets, and the toilets themselves were very clean and very well done. It often happens that the restaurant hall is decorated very well, but this is where the care for customers ends. But here everything is different - everything is thought out to the smallest detail and nothing spoils the impression of the wonderful cuisine of the restaurant. Of course, next time I come to York, I will book a table in this restaurant in advance. I can safely recommend everyone to enjoy lunch or dinner in this restaurant, I am sure you will get a lot of pleasure!”

“Came here with my mum and nana after shopping and we all really enjoyed it. The food came out hot and fresh — I had the katsu curry and it was spot on. My mum and nana both liked their meals too, and the staff were super friendly and patient with us. It was a bit busy (since it’s in the outlet), but the atmosphere was still chill and the service was quick. Prices are a little on the higher side, but you get good portions and quality food. Overall, really nice spot to grab something tasty after a day of shopping. Would definitely go again”

“Loved it! We did not have a reservation, but luckily there was a table for us (8 pm Friday night). The service was good and they were very quick. The portions were very good and the food was lovely for a great price. We went with the dinner menu which is a very good deal. Would recommend!”

“Olives were nice, but would have preffered pitted olives personally, and could have been a bigger portion. Garlic bread with caramelised onion starter was nice and enough for 2 people to share a small portion each. Salad was lovely with lots of sauce and added goats cheese. Malbec was nice. Wagyu pizza was very good and the honey sauce was very nice. Vincent our waiter was new and he got our orders right and was very polite. Vegan chocolate cake was nice but probably would have been better had it been warm and maybe with some vegan ice cream. Overall lovely meal.”

“A family-style Hong Kong-flavoured restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The menu includes clear photos, so you can easily order just by looking at the pictures. Highly recommend the roast duck and roast pork. We also ordered the crispy noodles with pork ribs — the portion was generous and it was absolutely delicious. The iced lemon tea is also a must-try. If I visit York again, I’ll definitely come back here for dinner.”

“I had a great stay at this modern and stylish hotel. My double room was well equipped with a Nespresso machine (with four pods), plenty of coffee sachets, and a good selection of teas. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and I loved the clever touch of the TV hidden behind a sliding piece of artwork. The large windows let in loads of natural light, and the room controls made it easy to adjust the temperature and fan settings. The shower was another highlight — a spacious, low-level shower enclosure with both a rainfall and handheld shower. Water pressure and temperature were excellent. The separate sink and worktop merged just to the side of the bed area was a nice feature. Breakfast was stacked full of self serve continental options as well as orderabke cooked options including a full English, priced at £25 for adults, but it was included with my stay, which made it great value — and it was absolutely delicious. All the staff were friendly and very helpful throughout my stay. The hotel overall is clean, bright, and modern, with a welcoming bar area that’s perfect for relaxing. A great stay”

“I’d say this is one of the best lunch deals ever. With £8 you get a Chicken & Bacon Avocado Sandwich, complete with fries and salad, and a cup of coffee. They tasted good too! The place was cozy and nice. I came in on a Thursday afternoon (the lunch deal starts from 12 to 4) and it was super crowded. People coming in from 12.30 onwards had a hard time finding seats. I would definitely recommend this place whether for lunch or for a drink.”

“Really good food, I had the seafood mixed grill and each piece of fish and seafood was cooked to perfection. The pork belly was succulent, with a crispy crackly skin. Service was great. There was one minor problem, there was no toilet paper in the ladies but it wouldn't put me off going again”

“I am from Singapore . This is very authentic Chinese restaurant with a diverse menu including vegan options. Food is very tasty and service is excellent. They even provide complimentary tea. I came here alone for lunch and ordered the MLXG (Mala Xiangguo) which was super delicious and reasonably priced. Food portion was generous. I came back with my husband for dinner on the same day and we had beef noodle soup (non spicy) and the fried banana dessert . Huge portion with delicious soup, tender beef cubes and crunchy greens. I highly recommend this place. For vegan, you must try the food here too, the menu looks interesting and food is very tasty and reasonably priced. Will visit again if I come back to York one day.”

“Location is perfect for visiting .walking 5-10mins to the hotel. All the stuff like bed sofa furniture are new and comfortable let me feeling at home , warm cleaning and convenient. Walk 2mins to the old city wall, about 10mins to the minster cathedral, York museum and fantastic garden old abbey, all the old street ,shopping center and castle museum plus railway museum just in 30mins walk away. With the perfect price , l like say this is the best hotel I ever been. Highly recommend”

The luggage carts by the entrance were incredibly helpful when we arrived with multiple suitcases. The overall first impression was stylish, energetic, and welcoming. Cleanliness & Safety Concerns
The hotel was clean throughout — from the reception area to the lifts and guest rooms. The lifts are secure and won’t operate until you scan your room key, which we appreciated as an added safety feature. CCTV inside the lifts added an extra layer of reassurance. The bathrooms, both in the public areas and our room, were spotless, and the baby-changing facilities downstairs were spacious with a wide sliding door that easily accommodates a pram. Food Quality
Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of hot and cold options, good coffee, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, and a variety of juices. Gluten-free options were clearly available, and we loved the sign that mentioned vegetarian sausages cooked to order—just ask a staff member. Everything was well stocked and fresh. There’s a beer garden, a pool table, books, board games, magazines like Empire, and even a free retro Street Fighter arcade machine. Everywhere you look, there’s something creative or fun. Every member of staff we interacted with was polite, friendly, and eager to help. The front-desk team created such a welcoming environment. We loved the gesture of a free cocktail or mocktail each on arrival. They even had special offers like a 20% student discount and a free mimosa for graduates on the day we visited. Dog owners will appreciate the custom stand at reception with water bowls for both large and small dogs. Small touches like free cucumber water at the bar and umbrellas available to rent added to the sense that Moxy pays attention to guest comfort. Facilities

“It isn’t often I give 5 star but this place deserves it! Before you even get chance to walk in the place, staff are already greeting you and asking how we were. The staff were friendly throughout the whole service and were very welcoming/accommodating as I had a young baby. The food was amazing! There is a large selection so there will definitely be something for everyone! On this occasion, we went for one of the set menus which is great value for what you get. The portions were perfect sizes and there was not a long wait time. If I lived in/near York, this place would definitely be a regular stop for me!”

“We were staying locally and decided to pop in and try this Indian restaurant. It was the best Indian food we have had. We ordered a veggie platter for 2, chicken korma, mushroom rice, and chips. Every dish was tasty, fresh, and hot. The food was served very quickly. The staff were very friendly. It had a great atmosphere and was not too pricey. We will definitely be back.
